“I have always felt that painting is what I was meant to do; to create these peculiar visions of the world that seem to call out to me. Not to replicate what I see, but to reimagine it, and incorporate new painting ideas and techniques to express a more personal understanding of the subject. The paintings in my new exhibit “Coastal Linear Structure” are all California coastal scenes that focus on strong linear components and their relationship to other elements within the painting.
“Studying the paintings of the late 1800’s French Impressionist painters captured my interest to be a painter. What drove my desire even more was learning about the Bay Area Figurative Movement. These paintings were bold, personal, and of fered a completely new form of how we perceive the world that began in 1950’s – 1960’s. This movement was unique to the USA, specifically to the Bay Area that applied the painting style of the abstract expressionists to that of the figure and real subjects. The first Bay Area Figurative Movement ar tists such as Richard Diebenkorn, David Park and Elmer Bishof f, inspired later generations of BAF ar tists and others which includes: Paul Wonner, Nathan Oliveira, Manual Neri, Wayne Thiebaud, Raimonds Staprans, and Greg Kondos.
