Rebecca lives in the beautiful state of Oklahoma. She is a California native and spent most of her early life in a small Los Angeles suburb nestled between the West Coast Mountains and the Pacific seashore. Surrounded by many gifted women during her childhood, Rebecca was blessed to have learned from the best. She credits her mother as being her greatest influence. Rebecca has been a sewer of fine things for many years and continues to be motivated and encouraged by those who are passionate about the things they create. Although she’s been involved in many aspects of the creative process for a number of years now, Rebecca originally began offering her pillows and hand painted items online over a decade ago under her business name A Gathering Place. Since then her work has been featured in several magazines and newspaper articles and she has been a keynote design speaker at local women’s clubs. She sells her wares locally at Serendipity Market located in Edmond, OK, USA, and in her online ‘A Gathering Place’ boutique found at www.GatherYeRoses.com 7

Rebecca creates from her home based studio and it is there, in the largest upstairs bedroom, where her childhood dreams take flight. She says it is easy for her to get lost in her work, especially when using aging laces made long ago with loving hands. Though tattered and worn, beautiful ribbons of rayon and silk are combined with scrumptious softly hugged cottons to create pillows, sachets, Christmas stockings and more. She loves anything and everything lace layered and French country white, but adds her style is ever changing. Rebecca has made it her mission to rescue gently loved treasures and discarded vintage home goods in order to give them new life! She admits to being a thrift-store and tag-sale junkie and would rather shop second hand than purchase anything new. 14
Rebecca and her husband of nearly thirty-five years have two grown children and one amazing ten year old granddaughter. They have worked together to transform their 1960’s era house into a retreat they hope never to leave. Every room has undergone a complete make-over with their current project being a total kitchen renovation. They expect it to be completed by the end of the year.

UK fashion Designer Torie Jayne uses a small bedroom at the back of her house for a creative space. She has painted it in her favourite colour duck egg blue and has it super organised with everything stored in colour groups. Torie keeps her ribbon ends neat and tidy by wrapping them around wooden dolly pegs and stores them in candy jar for a little bit of eye candy!
19
She also organises her beads and sequins into colours and stores them in stacked jars too. The IKEA Ribba shelves have been used to store her favourite spray paints and herb jars filled with large beads. A 1920's vintage filing cabinet is one of her favourite pieces along with her ribbon adorned tailors dummy.

Torie loves to surround herself with inspiration, so has made picture shelves for postcards and uses neon pink bow hooks to hang her vintage doilies and lace samples from. She uses a curtain wire wrapped in fairy lights to hang vintage wooden bird cages, wire basket filled with Pantone postcards, swatches of fabric, paper lace doilies and anything that makes her smile.
Open shelves with clear acrylic containers means Torie can quickly and easily locate what she is looking for and also means she never forgets what she has. Torie also up-cycled her grandma’s vintage tea trolley with a lick of white paint and lined the shelves with pretty papers. She has hung honeycomb paper balls from the ceiling and use washi tape to hang inspirational postcards and prints to her walls.
A large pinboard is covered in inspirational prints, papers, trims and trinkets.

Hello and welcome to my studio. My name is Karen Valentine.
I am the owner of Valentine Design custom blog designs, author of the e-book Building Beautiful Blogs... A Guide to Blogger, and the author of My Desert Cottage, a blog where I share my love of cottage style, vintage decor and arts and crafts through photos and tutorials.

I am also now teaching classes both in my home and at art events. I could not ask for a more fulfilling career.
sales or thrift stores. I love giving something a second chance to be useful and loved.
My studio is in my home in Scottsdale Arizona, and was once my son’s bedroom. When he moved out on his own I knew an art studio was going to be its next life.
I have filled my studio with many of the things that make me happy... fabric, lace and ribbons, paper, pens and inks, vintage baubles and doo dads. Everything in here brings me joy when I look at it or create with it.
Most all of the furnishings were purchased second hand either at garage

The look and feel of the room has definitely evolved over time. One of the biggest catalysts for the changes has been the “Where Blogger’s Create” blog party that I have hosted on my blog for the past 5 years. Each year women all over the world link up with me and share their own creative spaces.
The ideas that have been shared through this event are incredible and I continue to find inspiration every time I visit these lovely women. I hope you are inspired a little by my space and invite you to visit “My Desert Cottage” to view many more wonderful arts and crafts studios.

Kris and her husband have spent the last six years renovating their cottage home in the sweet little lake town of Lake Zurich, in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Together they have transformed every room in their home to reflect their love of cottage and farmhouse chic. Kris says “There’s no rhyme or reason to my decorating, I just like to add things I love to the decor. I learned a long time ago if you go with what you love and not what the trend is, then you will feel the happiest with your home”. Kris loves whites and neutrals with punches of colour and loves repurposing just about anything chippy and vintage.
46
Kris admits to having a love affair recently with old doors and windows and has featured them throughout her home, alongside several old birdhouses and mail boxes.
47
Kris says “I love the softness and comfy feeling of slip-covered furniture. I want to curl up and enjoy my furniture, so it needs to be comfy and inviting”.

Living in a lake town, Kris wanted to reflect that feel in her decorating style, which she does beautifully in her lake themed guest bedroom.
53
The office area reflects all the things that Kris loves and it gives her inspiration to create in this space. The old chippy stair rail is used to section off her office from the other room and over her desk Kris has used an old gate as a notice board.
