Hi, my name is Shahaab Khan.
about
2
I am a designer and creative who enjoys exploring the intricacies of my surrounding environment through the mediums of architecture, art, and photography. Having the opportunity to work and study in the field of architecture has definitely expanded my initial perception and understanding of what architecture is. I believe that at this point in time in the realm of architecture, we find ourselves at a crossroads and it is imperative that we make decisions that have the potential to bring benefit to our community, the ecosphere, and society at large. My work revolves around the ideas of community, interaction, and relationships.

passageway hotel
Academic/ 3rd Year Studio 2020 Group Project Trace & Markers, AutoCAD, Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator
The Passageway Hotel is a heritage mixed-use retail and hospitality project. The existing building was built in 1873 in the Victorian Style. The scope of the project was to renovate the interior while adding an addition that would comply with the heritage by-laws and complement the existing architectural features. The ground floor of the building transforms the streetscape of the intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue by adding small market-style shops which suit and accent the culture of King Street. An archshaped atrium opens up the lobby and interior pathways to the exterior vicinity and patio space. The renovation and addition include suites and windows which are orientated to face the best views of the city while also connecting to the existing structure.

WATERFRONT TORONTO CHARRETTE SMART STOPS PUBLICATION
Competition/ Waterfront Toronto Design Charrette 2017 Group Project (Top 3 Finalist) V-Ray, AutoCAD, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lumion
Smart Stops are the future of urban developments in the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The Waterfront is currently developing and will continue to adapt and grow through co-creation and innovative design. FLUX is a new age smart stop that answers the question “What if waiting wasn’t boring?” At the South-East side of Queens Quay East; Dockside Drive, a proposed smart stop, FLUX, will be complimenting the bus shelter at this location. This smart stop, along with other proposed locations throughout the Martin Goodman Trail, will give the user a unique experience whether it will be waiting for a bus, pickup/drop off, a meeting place, or simply somewhere to pass the time. The smart stops will incorporate technological aspects such as data collection, sharing, and distribution in order to benefit the surrounding community.

reclaiming the don
Academic/ 4th Year Thesis 2020-2021 Reclaiming the Don Individual AutoCAD, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign
Reclaiming the Don is an urban design project targeting the South Riverdale Neighbourhood of East Toronto. The site on 21 Don Valley is one subjected to intersections of urban walls as well as circulating paths. Located on the site is the old Unilever factory once inhabited to produce and manufacture soap. The project proposes an exploration of the ideas of social engagement, community, rejuvenation, and reuse in the urban city environment. How can we prepare for urban sprawl while also reclaiming land that is no longer in use?

the play house
Academic/ 3rd Year ReStudio 2019 Individual Trace & Markers, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign
The Play House is a residence designed for a client who has a congenital intellectual disability. The concept surrounding the design of the project is Play. The 8 Principles of Play pertain to a program that injects fun and joyfulness into the mundane routine of day-to-day activities. In addition to the play strategies, the program also incorporates social discourse, therapy, physical activity, creativity, and volunteering which is uniquely incoporated into all parts of the interior and exterior spaces. Some of the features included are inspired by a playground such as a slide and a ball-pit, the pop-out windows and, and the circular glass tunnel-like pathways which lead to the multipurpose garden space.

272 dundas st. east
Professional/ Array International Architects Inc. 272 Dundas Street East, 2017 Trace & Markers, AutoCAD, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop
272 Dundas Street East is a proposed mixed-use low-rise residential project which consists of a ground-level dental clinic and two storeys of residential apartments. The green mansard roof with the segmental-arched windows, beige stone and molding, red masonry brick, and decorative archway all contribute to the architectural heritage of the area and comform to the by-laws dictated by the conservation authority present in the township of Flamborough. I had the ability to work under the oversight of a Senior Architect to personally develop the full set of permit drawings for the building while also communicating and coordinating with all the necessary consultants needed to finalize the city submission.

Professional/ Array International Architects Inc. 110 Fairbank Avenue Community Centre, 2015 - 2018 Trace & Markers, AutoCAD, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop
110 Fairbank Ave is a proposed three-storey Community Centre and Place of Worship for a religious organization called Jamaat Ul-Islamiah of Ontario. The multifaceited design includes an distinct array of green roofs and balconies covered with a long extended and shaded pergola. The large masses are balanced with the mix of perforated walls and a modern glass minaret and dome. Due to the site’s adajency to the York Beltline Trail, the city required a comprehensive landscape plan with a variety of native species of vegetation and trees. The extent of my work on the project was preparing and aiding in the completion of drawings and digital modeling of the project for the site plan approval stage. I was working alongside a Junior Architect and Senior Architect Gamal Mohammed.
