MOMMY WHERE IS MY DAD? Children’s Book
December 2012
Written by, Kimberly S. Barnett
Families need a mother and a father for good mental health development. When one parent is missing, a child often tends not to get what it is they need to emotionally grow. As young boys grow into young men, they look towards their father or a male role model to give them guidance. Mommy Where Is My Dad? Tells how one mother explains the absence of Brandon’s dad.

G.M.W.A. Asst. Chapter Represenative
Carey O’ Neal Sanders, song and guitar master has never given up the desire to get his message of God’s love to an international audience. He is a life-long lover of good gospel music of the “quartet style.” He is truly a quartet singer from his heart. In these modern times when the originality of the “quartet sound” has given way to the contemporary sounds of praise and worship and holy hip-hop - and since many of the original good old quartet singing boys have passed on into eternity, Carey decided that while he is yet alive to maintain the integrity of this glorious art form in its purest originality.

Laugh of the day.......... A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together. He said, “It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. “The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. “I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO.”
went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn’t have a plant and he felt like a failure. Six months went by — still nothing in Jim’s pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn’t say anything to his colleagues, however, he
One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so received a seed. He Gospelnewsmagazine@gmail.com

wanted the seed to grow. A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn’t going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful — in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him! When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives. Jim just tried to hide in the back. “My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown,” said the CEO. “Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!” All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to

Maybe he will have me fired!” When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story. The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. “How could he be the new CEO?” the others said. Then the CEO said, “One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Chane Fleming Won 1st place at the First Annual Poetry Coference & Competition held Saturday October 7, 2012 at Lakewood Christian Centre, Montgomery, Al sponsored by Ms. Rose Riley
Awaken Lately there have been more days like this. I drift into an endless, thoughtless abyss Chane Fleming & Bishop J. Harris Drifting slowly and weightless into a land of fantasy. I am in a place where my innocence resides and I am worry Free. I look over the horizon where every stress I have is in a pond by itself. I no longer dwell over the problems or the bad cards life had dealt. I am full of joy and no concerns as I did in my childhood. I am at peace and everything seems to be all good There isn’t any more heartache or grief For right now, I have escaped or at least that is what I believed. Within a snap, I am back in the cold. It’s dark and unrelenting and once again I’m carrying this Heavy load I am fighting off the pain, but it is too much to ignore. I am sinking fast and beginning to wonder if I can win this war I want to scream for help as I feel my soul ignite I am waving the white flag , but there’s no surrender in sight. as is m about to give up, I hear a voice peaceful and clear. Don’t give up my child. I am here!” There is a warn light that has mesmerized. It has me drawn like a moth to a flame, yet I wasn’t Traumatized. The voice speaks again, there were times in your life when you felt Alone. I was as always here through your trails and difficult Storms. Life is full of sharp curves and bumpy rides.” If you choose to follow me, I will never forsake you I am god always by\ your side Gospelnewsmagazine@gmail.com

PRAY THIS EVEN IF YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE IT! IT WILL ONLY TAKE A MINUTE. Dear Lord, I thank You for this day. I thank You for my being able to see and to hear this morning. I’m blessed because You are a forgiving God and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness. Please keep me safe from all danger and harm. Help me to start this day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each and every day to clear my mind so that I can hear from You. Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things that are of you. Let me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. And it is the best response when I’m pushed beyond my limits. I know that when I can’t pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use me to do Your will. Continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for those that are lost and can’t find their way. I pray for those that are misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don’t know You intimately. I pray for those that don’t believe.
page 23
I thank you that I believe. I believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all my sisters and brothers, and for each and every family member in their households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes, that they are out of debt and all their needs are met. I pray that every eye that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that sees it. I love you and I need you, come into my heart “Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.”

SALVATION Is As Simple As…
ACKNOWLEDGE That Jesus Christ is God’s son!
BELIEVE In your heart that God raised Him from the dead.
CONFESS That you are a sinner and thou shall be saved. The Gift Of
SALVATION For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. John 14:6
Prayer Of SALVATION Heavenly Father, I am a sinner. I want forgiveness for all my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and rose again. Father, I give you my life to do as you wish. I want Jesus Christ to come into my heart. This I ask in Jesus name. Amen!

November/December 2012 Sincerely, Mom with Mixed emotions Union County, New Jersey RESPONSE: Dear Mom,
ASK LADY WANDA QUESTION #1
Dear Lady Wanda, My son recently got a new job and is moving out. I am pleased to know that he is moving forward with his life. We have always talked to him about good credit and overall survival, as well as made sure he had a balanced life which included God. But in his teens, he thought that we were strict because his friends’ parents had few rules and he still mentions this although today he is in his early 20s. Now that he has his apartment, his attitude is arrogant and disrespectful. He seems to still resent how he was raised. Part of me wants to say good-riddance because he is so ungrateful at times. How do I deal with this because he is still my son and I still want to be a light? Gospelnewsmagazine@gmail.com
Your son may still have some resentment in how he was raised, but you be satisfied with doing your best as a parent. Now, it is time to let him make his own decisions. Remember that life has a way of bringing a reality check. When he sees the financial obligations firsthand, faces social disappointments and other challenges of life, he will more than likely come back to thank you for all that you have done. Yes, express how you feel about being disrespected, but then continue to love and pray for him. He will need it on this new journey! Lady Wanda QUESTION #2

needs a cell in case of emergencies. We put security features on the computer in order to monitor her, but now most of her activity is through her cell. Help! Sincerely, Nothing to Cell-abrate Franklin, New Jersey RESPONSE: Dear Nothing to Cell-abrate, First, you can speak with your carrier to see if you can delete any features on her phone that distract her. Or, if you decide to keep these features, you can put together a schedule and then search the Internet and find the tools available to monitor text messages and calls. The summary log from these tools provide the time and length of calls, as well as other details to monitor all activities. In addition to safety, “sexting” (sending nude photos), is also a growing problem among teens with sometimes legal implications. Remember, you are the parent and should take every precaution necessary to protect your child’s wellbeing.
My teenage daughter has been spending too much time on her cell phone talking or texting instead of focusing on homework after school. Both my husband and I work and are not home Lady Wanda to monitor her. She

3 (Health y!) Things to Do Instead of Snac king (Healthy!) Snacking We’ve all been there — working at your desk or sitting on the sofa and suddenly you’ve finished a bag of chips without even realizing it. This kind of eating on autopilot is what experts call “mindless eating,” says Amy Jamieson-Petonic, RD, spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and director of coaching at the Cleveland Clinic. “It can cause you to consume significantly more calories and, therefore, lead to weight gain. When we eat this way, we do not comprehend the amount of food we are eating.” The good news, according to Jamieson-Petonic, is that there are ways to regain your focus and ditch the unintentional overeating. Try one of these healthful activities the next time a snack attack hits. And remember the one thing not to do: Watch TV. That activity is specifically tied to increased eating.
Exeter found that a 15-minute walk causes people to eat half as much chocolate as those who didn’t move. On top of that, taking a walk will make you more alert and burn off a few calories. Reach Out and Touch Someone Hanging with your honey? Instead of letting that bowl of chips come between you, snuggle up close and let the oxytocin flow. The brain releases this chemical — sometimes called the “love hormone” — when you cuddle, hug or even just spend time with those you care about, and it is critical to humans’ emotional well-being. Best of all, a new study from the University of Edinburgh says that the hormone also regulates appetite: Triggering its release makes you less likely to crave food and more likely to desire a little nookie. Work on a Word Puzzle
Take a Walk Topping the list of ways to defeat a snack attack: Take a stroll. Research, Jamieson-Petonic states, “has shown that a 15-minute walk can really reduce cravings and change the circuit to how we eat.” Plus, new research shows that lapping the block can specifically defeat the office candy jar: Researchers from the University of Gospelnewsmagazine@gmail.com
What’s an eight-letter word for “that which contributes to unwanted pounds”? S-N-A-C-K-I-N-G. Keep mindless munching at bay while sharpening your mind itself by working on mentally challenging activities like crossword puzzles, word searches, or sudoku. Taking pen in hand will do more than just help keep you away from the snack jar:
