Margins are the spaces at the top and the bottom of a page and at the edge of a spread Margins set the boundary of the design and occassionally contains running heads, chapters heads and folios

Columns are vertical alignments for organizing body text. A grid can have any number of columns Columns can be of either same width or different widths.

Gutters are the margins between columns and the inner margins at the centre of a spread Gutters surround and define the live area Gutters assist in focusing attention and serve as resting place for the eye
