SHAKER SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AWARDS Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Foundation makes a difference in the lives of all Shaker students by supporting academics, enrichment, fine arts programming, STEAM innovation, opportunity assistance, and more. Established in 1981, the Shaker Schools Foundation was one of the first in the nation to raise funds for a public school system. Since that time, we have raised more than $7.5 million to support our mission to support all Shaker students by cultivating community resources to advance equitable access and enhance opportunities in and out of the classroom. JUNIOR SHAKER SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AWARDS June Marie Harney Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Performing Arts - Established in 1991 in memory of June Marie Harney, a 1941 graduate of Shaker Heights High School, this award goes to a student who excels in the performing arts and humanities. Recipient: Margaretta Milgram Dorothy Humel Hovorka Junior Award for Scholastic Achievement - Established in 1990 by Dorothy Humel Hovorka, a 1938 graduate of Shaker Heights High School, this award goes to a young man and a young woman with the highest cumulative grade point average in the spring of their junior years. This fund may be used for an annual recognition award to either the highest achieving African American male or female of the junior class of Shaker Heights High School as determined by cumulative grade point average in the spring of the junior year. The fund also provides a cash award to these students in the senior year. Recipients: Benjamin Jamal Jaimee Martin Amy Margolis Silberman Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts - Established in memory of Amy Margolis Silberman, a 1981 graduate of Shaker Heights High School, this award is presented to a member of the junior class who demonstrates excellence in the arts. Recipient: Joshua Mink Sue Silverman Award - Established in 1991 in memory of Sue F. Silverman, Class of 1957, this award goes to a female student in the junior class who demonstrates excellence in the areas of leadership and communication. Recipient: Sarah Marcus 2


JUNIOR OR SENIOR SHAKER SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AWARDS Mae Stuart Dalrymple Award - Established in 1995 in memory of Mae Stuart Dalrymple, who grew up in Shaker Heights, this award recognizes students who excel in writing. Recipients: Caitlyn Mular Erin Williams Jenny Goldman Language Excellence Award - Established in 2006 in memory of Jenny Goldman, Class of 2005, this award is presented to a junior or senior who has excelled in more than one language. Recipient: William Corbin Grace B. Graham Student Award - This award was established in 1998 by David M. Gleason, Class of 1950. The fund was established in memory of Grace B. Graham, who taught English at the High School from 1924-1960. There are two awards given: one to a student athlete who excels in academics and/or extracurricular activities due to the strong mentoring of a teacher, and an award to the teacher whose encouragement helped the student to excel. Recipient: Javiera Baeza Grace B. Graham Teacher Award - This award was established by David Gleason, Class of 1950, in memory of his teacher and mentor, Grace B. Graham, who was chair of the English Department, and taught at the high school from 1924-1960. This award is given in conjunction with the Grace B. Graham Student Award. Recipient: Jennifer Clarke Fred Heinlen Baseball Award - This award was established in 2006 to honor Fred Heinlen, who served as Shaker Heights High School’s physical education teacher and baseball coach from 1946 to 1980 and was Athletic Director for 25 years. It is given to a junior or senior varsity baseball player who demonstrates the values of respect, hard work, leadership, and integrity. Recipient: Owen Bang Mr. Palmer Bus #36 Award - Established in 2022 to honor Mr. Palmer, a beloved bus driver, this award goes to a Shaker junior or senior who attended Boulevard and shares the kindness, tolerance and caring that Mr. Palmer modeled. Recipients: Azaria Bryant Franklin Tia Currie SENIOR SHAKER SCHOOLS FOUNDATION AWARDS Nikki Babbit Memorial Award - Established in 2008 in memory of Nikki Babbit, mother of three Shaker graduates, this award goes to a senior student who has provided outstanding technical service to the Shaker Heights High School Theatre Arts Department. Recipient: Meredith Pope 3


David M. Berger Award - Established in 1984 in memory of David Berger, a former student of the Shaker Heights schools, this award is presented to an outstanding scholar-athlete. Recipients: Tyler Lencewicz Daniel Young Daniel R. Biello Award - Established in 1986 in memory of Daniel R. Biello, Class of 1965, this award goes to an outstanding scholar-athlete. Recipients: Kate Meinhard Erin Williams Louis and Laura Brooks Memorial Award for Teaching and Education - Established in 2002 in memory of Laura Almeada Brooks, a teacher of 35 years, this award is presented to a senior who has demonstrated a passionate concern for teaching and education and has achieved academic success. Recipient: Valentina Miksa Lucille M. Burkett Award - Established in 1986 in tribute to Lucille M. Burkett’s 33 years of service as a Shaker Heights School District teacher and administrator, this award goes to an outstanding female athlete to recognize outstanding academic achievement and positive contributions to school and community. Recipient: Mia Compton-Engle Sally Calland Lomond Scholar Award - Established in 2012 in memory of Sally Calland, Class of 1966, this award recognizes the graduating senior living in the Lomond Elementary School attendance area who has earned the highest GPA. Recipient: Evelyn Lewicki CommitMEN Award - Established in 2006 by six former Shaker students, this award goes to an African-American male senior who has been accepted into a postsecondary program, and who demonstrates integrity, leadership, and service to others. Recipient: Andrew Loney The Elizabeth and John Danka Scholarship Award – Established in 2021 by Dianne E. Danka Stanko, Class of 1956, this scholarship goes to a female senior who will study biology and/or pre-med at The Ohio State University. Recipient: Journee Byrd-Allen M. Evelyn Dilley Award - Established in 2007 in memory of M. Evelyn Dilley, this award goes to a graduating student who exemplifies the personal goals and ideals expressed by the motto, “Make your best better.” Recipient: Colin Burleigh Carolyn Garvin Award - Established in 2001 to honor Carolyn as the recipient of the Martin Luther King Human Relations Award, this award goes to a senior who demonstrates leadership abilities. Goldfarb Family Award - Established in 2014, this award goes to a deserving Shaker student who excels in academics, the arts and athletics. Recipient: Kaylynn Torain Douglas E. Hicks Award - Established in 1983 in memory of Douglas E. Hicks, this award is presented in honor of student excellence in instrumental music. Recipients: William Berick Journee Byrd-Allen Tom, John and Leslie Holdstein Memorial Award - Established in 2001 in memory of John Holdstein, Class of 1971, this award is presented this year to two outstanding senior scholar athletes. Recipients: Ayande Joseph Erin Williams IC Community Impact Award - Established in 2022, this award is given to a graduating IC senior who has excelled as a leader and a mentor to other IC students, and whose engagement in ideas and issues has made a significant impact on the IC and the broader high school community. Recipient: Danielle Tall IC Creativity & Innovation Award - Established in 2022, this award is given to a graduating IC senior for outstanding initiative in creating school projects that highlight creativity and innovation and for serving as a creative inspiration to peers. Recipient: Colin Burleigh Desadre Lawson-Bullock Award - Established in 2016 in memory of Desadre Lawson-Bullock, who served as an assistant principal at the High School, this award is given to a graduating senior pursuing a degree in education, engineering, or one of the STEM majors. Recipient: Alexander Holmes The Eric and Susan Lindquist Memorial Award - Established in 2007 in honor of siblings Eric and Susan Linquist, both Class of 1973. This award is given to a senior who has been enrolled in Shaker’s Career Prep Program and/or has been accepted into a post high school trade, apprentice, or vocational school, or a twoyear arts school. The Zoltan and Doris Modly First Generation American Award - Established in 2016 by the Modly family, this award goes to a senior who is the son or daughter of immigrants to the U.S. and who has an outstanding record of scholarship, citizenship, and assimilation into high school. Recipient: Al-Hassan Kaba Jennifer Lynn Moore Award - Established in 1992 in memory of Jennifer Lynn Moore, Class of 1990, this award goes to a senior who has demonstrated a passionate concern for the environment and is an exceptional student. Recipient: William Welsh Brittany Mosely Award - Established in 2018 by Brittany Mosely, Class of 2006, and her family, this award goes to a college-bound female scholar-athlete who exemplifies fairness, respect, diligence, leadership, and integrity. Recipient: Nadia Seymore The Dimoff Family Most Improved Orchestra Student Award - Established in 2016 by Amber and Max Dimoff, this award honors a senior in the Shaker Orchestra who has made the most dramatic improvement on their instrument. Recipient: William Berick Terry Pollack Award for Leadership and Diversity - Established in 2004 in honor of Mr. Pollack’s 65th birthday, this award is given to a student who demonstrates an understanding of social studies, who strives to make a positive difference, and who demonstrates leadership and initiative. Recipient: Eyan Bryant Loretta C. Quade and Steven S. Kaufman Community Leadership Award Established in 2001 in memory of Loretta Quade, this award is given to a collegebound senior who has demonstrated commitment and leadership to enhance and improve the Shaker Heights community and who has achieved academic success. This year we honor two recipients: Recipients: Olivia Peebles Mary Grace Wilkinson Rosewater Family Modern Language Award - Established in 2007 by Gail Rosewater, a Shaker graduate who taught French and Spanish for more than twenty years, this award is presented to a senior who has completed at least four years of the same modern language at the high school level and has demonstrated diligence and enthusiasm in the study of this language. Recipient: Jonathan Brinkley A. Jack Rumbaugh Award - Established in 1999 in memory of Jack Rumbaugh, principal of Shaker Heights High School from 1987-1999, this award recognizes a senior who will be attending Kent State University. Recipient: Margaret Klimek

Isaac Schulz Memorial Scholarship - Established in 2017 by the Schulz family in memory of Isaac Schulz, this scholarship is awarded to a senior who exemplifies the qualities of intellectual curiosity, ethical integrity, love of learning, and commitment to serving community and humanity. Recipient: Ralph Tan Shaker Heights Arts Council Student Award - This award honors a talented graduating senior who will pursue a post-secondary degree in the arts. The recipient must have been enrolled continuously throughout high school in fine or performing arts. Recipient: Alister Lowe Shaker Arts Recognition Student Award - This award honors a talented graduating senior who will pursue a post-secondary degree in the arts. The recipient must have been enrolled continuously throughout high school in fine or performing arts. Recipients: Madeline Lowe Traci Louise Prince Williams Award - Established in 2005 in memory of Traci Williams, Class of 2001, this award recognizes a college-bound African-American senior who demonstrates involvement, compassion and academic achievement. Recipient: Wriley Slade Jane Wood Award for Outstanding Student Journalism - Established in 2004 in honor of Jane Wood and her years of outstanding service and leadership as the editor of the Shaker Magazine, this award is given to a senior student who excels in writing for the Shakerite. Recipient: Vivian Bowling Jeff Young Awards - These two awards were established in memory of Jeff Young, a 1980 Shaker graduate, to recognize students who display natural ability and skill, as well as an eagerness to perform in the dramatic arts and in the A Cappella Choir. MAC SCHOLARS AND MAC SISTER SCHOLARS AWARDS Rashad Burnley Minority Achievement Award - This award was established in 2000 in memory of Rashad Burnley, Class of 1997, to honor his commitment to education and leadership. Recipient: Ayande Joseph MAC Scholars Awards - MAC Scholars are high-achieving African-American male students who meet regularly with capable but underachieving ninth and tenth grade African-American males in an effort to encourage and motivate them to work toward greater success in school. DISTRICT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS FROM OTHER SOURCES JUNIOR AWARDS The Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award - This award is given by the University of Rochester in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in rigorous math and science courses, as well as positive contributions to our school and within the larger community. Recipient: Brian Fox The Brandeis University Book Award - The Brandeis Book Award for Social Action and Civic Engagement is given to a junior who is involved in creating positive change in the community. Recipient: Noah Zelin The Chatham College Rachel Carson Healthy Planet Award - This award is given to a junior who is committed to environmental preservation and advancement in sustainability. The Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award - This award is given by the University of Rochester in recognition of outstanding commitment to social justice, as well as leadership and dedication to community action. Recipient: Jaimee Martin The George Eastman Young Leaders Award - This award is given by the University of Rochester in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and leadership as well as extensive involvement in extracurricular activities. Recipient: Brendan Zbanek The Harvard University Book Award - This award is presented to an outstanding junior student who displays excellence in scholarship and achievements in other fields. Recipient: Elizabeth Huang The Maureen O’Donnell Oxford Classical Dictionary Award - This award recognizes the achievement of students who have won a Gold Medal on the National Latin Exam for four consecutive years. Recipient: Hannah Whitney The Oberlin Book Award for Achievement in the Arts - This award is given in recognition of Oberlin College and Conservatory emphasis on excellence in academics and the fine and performing arts. This award honors a junior who has shown exceptional commitment to the arts. Recipient: Hannah Whitney The Princeton Book Award - This award is presented to an outstanding junior student. Recipient: Justin Pieper The Rensselaer Medal Award - This medal is awarded to promising juniors who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. It includes a renewable scholarship for each medalist who applies, is accepted, and chooses to enroll at Rensselaer. Recipient: Benjamin Jamal The Smith College Book Award - This award is given to an outstanding junior woman who exemplifies the Smith College commitment to academic achievement, leadership qualities, community service, and concern for others. The University of Vermont Citizen Scholar Award - The Citizen Scholar Book Award celebrates high school students around the U.S. who demonstrate that spirit of citizenship and scholarship. They may have campaigned for a cause, founded a community action group, or conducted research aiding social progress. These students are the movers, shakers, and change makers of the world. Recipient: Carrington Hughes The Wesleyan University Book Award - This award is granted to a student who demonstrates the Wesleyan University values of independent and creative thought, academic excellence, free thinking and energetic inquiry. Recipient: Nico Moulthrop The Williams College Book Award - This award is given to an outstanding junior who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and has made a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the school. Recipient: Emily Boron The Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology - This award is given to a student who has demonstrated strong interest in innovation or information technology by helping others adapt to new technology approaches through community service or after-school activities. Recipient: Ethan Byrnes The Yale University Book Award - This award is donated by a member of the Yale Alumni Association of Cleveland and given to an outstanding junior student. SENIOR AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS Shaker Heights High School Alumni Scholarship - This scholarship, established in 1989, honors an outstanding senior whose parent or grandparent is a Shaker Heights High School graduate. Recipients: Camryn Garrison Adam Hollander Richard Schanfarber Alumni Association Scholarship - This scholarship was established in honor of Richard Schanfarber for his dedicated years of service as President and Executive Board Member of the Shaker Heights Alumni Association. It recognizes an outstanding senior student whose parent or grandparent is a Shaker Heights High School graduate. Recipient: Carly Gimbel The Jack Desmond Inspiration Award - This award goes to a student who has gone above and beyond, demonstrating hard work and perseverance to achieve success, and in doing so became an inspiration to their fellow students and teachers. Recipient: Luciana Ray The Carter Stubbs Drake Book Award - This award recognizes the achievement of students who have won a Gold Medal on the National Latin Exam for 5 consecutive years. Recipients: Mia Compton-Engle William Corbin Le Cercle des Conférences Françaises de Cleveland Award - This award recognizes high achievement in French language studies. Recipient: Aziza Reddy The Dr. Marcia L. Hubbard-Shepard Memorial Scholarship - This award provides support and mentorship to an African-American graduating senior with an interest in medicine, mathematics or the lab sciences. Recipient: Erin Williams The Khala Lisan Lovas Scholarship Fund - This fund was established to honor the memory and spirit of Khala Lisan Lovas, a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and John Carroll University, and the mother of a MAC Scholar and Shaker Heights High School graduate. Ms. Lovas majored in Economics, enjoyed poetry and writing, worked in sales and management, and was passionate about exercise and fitness. She persevered through the challenges of being a single parent and multiple sclerosis, and is remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her. Recipients: Junior: Elliot Miller Jr. Seniors: Delana Ray Luciana Ray The PEACE Award - Heights Christian Church presents this award to a student who demonstrates belief in dignity and equal rights for all in our high school community. In addition, it is hoped that this student will work to overcome racism and help to establish and maintain a peaceful world. Recipient: Alina Roach 11


The Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic Award - The Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa annually recognizes one outstanding student from each Cleveland area high school. The student must have demonstrated unusually outstanding academic and scholarly abilities. Recipient: Jacob Feinleib NATIONAL MERIT PROGRAMS National Merit Corporate Award Scholarships - More than 1,000 distinguished seniors from across the country have been awarded these corporate-sponsored scholarships. They were selected from students who advanced to the Finalist Round, and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Recipient: Kjell Aspelin National Merit Traditional Scholarships - This program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. This scholarship is a one- time, non-renewable award which can be used at the college of the student’s choice. The Ohio State University Morrill Scholars Program - This program is the Ohio State University’s premiere merit scholarship program, rewarding academically talented students who are actively engaged in diversity-based leadership, service and social justice activities. These students have been awarded Morrill Scholarship monies equal to the value of in-state tuition for eight undergraduate semesters. Recipients:
