From the Woodbury Band Directors

The tradition of the Shaker Band Program is strong, from Woodbury through the High School. As the primary site for band students entering the program, the Woodbury Band Department is proud to be a part of such an excellent program.

At Woodbury, there are approximately 450 students in eight concert bands and one jazz band.

We have enjoyed making great strides with each of these bands this year.

Private Lessons

Band Notes

Private lessons are an excellent way to improve musical skills. There are many highly qualified private music instructors. A list of private instructors is available from shakerbands.org on the Woodbury Bands page, under Links on the right-hand side.

Repairs

Check instruments for any needed repairs. Rental instruments and newly purchased instruments often have a warranty repair period. For those instruments not covered by a repair agreement, Academy Music will provide a weekly pick-up/repair/delivery service through the Woodbury Band office. Make arrangements for payment and pick-up with Academy Music.

Tools, Tools, Tools

Tools for your student to be more successful, regardless of his/her grade level, include the following items: a metronome/tuner, music stand, extra reeds, valve/slide oil and a cleaning kit for his/her instrument. These items can be easily purchased at your local music store.

Shaker Summer Band Camp

July 10-14 and July 17-21

Shaker Heights High School Auditorium

Students entering grades 6 - 9. Experienced specialists lead young musicians through a fast paced workshop of small group instruction, music theory and exposure to musical styles from classic marches to jazz to rock. Students develop their own technique and appreciation for solo and ensemble performance. A final concert is presented for family, friends and the community on the last day of camp. Students must provide their own instruments (except percussion and large instruments) and have completed at least one year of instruction. Campers attending full day must bring a lunch.

Junior counselor registration requires band director approval. Registration is required! Call 216-491-1295 or register online at shakeronline.com:

Start a Shaker Student Travel Savings Fund Today!

At the high school level, a great number of travel opportunities exist for students–whether touring in Europe with fellow students from the band, choir or orchestra, engaging in a language immersion program to Chile or Germany, or participating in a service project in Southeast Asia.

While all student travel experiences have fundraising opportunities to support the trips, we know these costs are great. The time to start saving is NOW! Our partnership with Huntington will allow you to start a Student Travel Savings Fund now.

Your savings today will give your student the experience of a lifetime in high school! To start your student’s travel fund, contact Brandon Tufts at Huntington’s Fairmount Circle branch at 216-515-0285.
