transition projects Moving between schools can be a worrying time for pupils and their parents. We use the power of Shakespeare’s stories to explore the themes of change, friendships and leaving a safe world for an unknown one. By working together, pupils in feeder and receiving schools make new friends and get to know their new school and teachers through the power of performing Shakespeare.
Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 • Building Bridges with Shakespeare is a unique project developed to ease transition from Infants to Juniors. • All Year 2 and 3 pupils watch an interactive storytelling on one of Shakespeare’s plays at the beginning of the summer term. • Year 2 and Year 3 teachers attend a full day CPD. • Globe Education Practitioners deliver in-school workshops, supporting teachers towards a joint Year 2 and 3 performance of the play at the end of the term.

By the end of the project, staff’s initial apprehension was annulled. This was mirrored by the amazed and enthusiastic appreciation of our parents. Sarah Rowlands, Headteacher, Altmore and Lathom Schools Federation
Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 • Our Year 6 to Year 7 transition project has been developed to support pupils as they move into a new environment, and reinforce the English curriculum links and communication between primary and secondary teachers. • Year 6 literacy leads and Year 7 English teachers are invited to a summer term CPD. • Receiver schools host a Globe storytelling on their transition days for the Year 6 pupils. • A second CPD and workshops in the autumn term prepare the new Year 7s for a promenade performance in their school. As with all of Globe Education’s work, projects can be tailored to suit the needs of your staff and pupils. Contact us to discuss how Globe Education can contribute to your transition strategy.

Children as storytellers For younger children, stories told or heard can help them to understand the world in which they live, and transmit that understanding to others. Through role play and drama approaches, pupils are encouraged to explore the ideas and language they need for writing.
• Interactive storytelling. • Teacher CPD and team-teaching workshop plan with Globe Education Practitioners. • Active workshops encourage pupils to think about how stories are structured, characters’ behaviour and the moral dilemmas that confront them. • Second CPD to support independent delivery by teachers, with a visit from their Globe Education Practitioner. • Globe Education can deliver creative modules for Years 1 to 6, tailored to your timescale.
