e’re sure you’re researching who you want to take your senior photos right now and we know how daunting that can be. Hopefully we can help you understand what sets us apart from the other photographers in our
area.
We pride ourselves on being the original studio in our area to include professional make-up and hairstyle as part of your senior portraits! Because it’s included in your premium session fee, you save a ton of money on these services! We also refuse to work solely in a studio. We hate the idea of pulling out backdrop after backdrop of the same old outdated designs for every single senior. We keep it classy and timeless with a modern fashion twist! We want you to have a variety of on location hot spots that all of your friends don’t have. We think it’s important to be individual and have a unique style. We want your portraits to be as unique as you are! That’s why we offer both styles – the best of both worlds! We shoot natural light and studio fashion for our seniors so that we can offer you the senior portrait experience of a lifetime! We also provide a premier ordering session. Most photographers just throw your photos up on a website and leave you to figure it out for yourself. We’ve had professional photos taken before and that is the most confusing part! When your images are ready to be viewed, you’ll come to our gallery stocked with beautiful samples of our best work! We’ll start the night off with your senior slide show and go from there. You can view all of your photos the exact way they’ll be printed and can even watch us change them out and design them right there, in front of you! Want to know what an image will look like over the fireplace? We can show you. That’s the wonderful thing about our design consultations… We are there to guide you and help you decide which photo should go where and what size fits best. We also think it’s important for you to know that we are not “volume photographers.” There means we only accept a small number of clients each month so that we can apply great attention for detail to each one of our seniors. You are not a number to us… you are the only reason we are able to do this job that we love. We value all of our clients and strive to make your senior portrait experience as memorable as your senior pictures themselves!

Five
REASONS
to go pro
Why should you have your makeup & hair professionally done? #3 Celebrities Don’t Really Look Like That There is a huge difference in “everyday makeup” and “camera ready makeup.” The products that our artists use are specifically made for the camera as well as camera ready faces. #4 You Won’t Have to Worry Using professional hair stylists and makeup artists with credentials can ensure a mistake free experience. Find security in using professionals who have had special training in camera ready hair and makeup. #5 Our Artists Know What They’re Doing Education is key. Using professional hair stylists and makeup artists who have been trained by the industry’s leading experts in the latest hairstyles and makeup will ensure that they know what they are doing. They didn’t learn from YouTube, yo!
#1 Camera’s Capture Everything Regular everyday makeup is hard to see through all the filters high def cameras can throw at it. Our makeup artists use highly pigmented makeup so that the camera won’t wash you out and you will look natural yet beautiful for your senior portraits. #2 Sweat Happens Our makeup artists waterproof and set your makeup so that your face will be flawless from beginning to end of your photo shoot. Sweat, humidity, water, and heat will have nothing on your super fab face!
And if these aren’t reasons enough, who wouldn’t want to sit back and be pampered by professionals on their big day? 26

t is very important to us at Shalem Photography that we capture a beautiful portrait for you right from the start. We pride ourselves on maintaining close to perfect images straight out of the camera and we know that it’s important to maintain your senior’s natural beauty. By capturing the correct colors, exposure, pose and composition in camera, we can use minimal editing steps to perfect the final image. In the next few pages, we are exposing our beginning images that ar straight out of the camera and allowing you to compare them to our final image

rusting someone to take your senior portraits can be difficult. When you book your session with us you can rest easy – our images are bold, colorful, and consistent. Your images will be a true reflection of who you are. You will also receive a variety of different edits. From stunning black and whites to beautiful retro haze images – if the image lends itself to something other than our basic (but gorgeous!) edits, that’s what you will receive. Part of being a photographer is being an artist and being able to transform photographs to new heights.

best grad party 6 TIPS FOR THE
Our proffesional event coordinator shares some of her best tips on making your graduation celebration an event to remember for years to come. Make your party the one next years class will be traying to top!
W
ant to throw the best bash ever?! Here are a few quick tips from our favorite party planner, Rebecca Kopperud of La Boum Events A graduation party is all about the celebration. This is a huge moment in life that deserves some real fan fare. So let’s break out the confetti and entertain our guests, because this party is going all. night. long.
1. HIRE A REAL DJ
An experienced DJ is worth his weight in gold! He (or she) knows how to read a crowd and can keep your dance floor hopping all night. Your iPod doesn’t know how to do that.
2. FOOD STATIONS
Have your guests go to stations and get into the process of building their own food. This way food becomes part of the entertainment and gives guests stuff to do.
3. CONFETTI BAR
Nothing quite says celebration like confetti! Put out assorted confetti and glitter OR use bird seed and flower petals if you are feeling green. Place your assortments in cute little bowls or jars and let guests fill their own. We like to use push pops, they are perfect for making little confetti bombs.
40
4. LAWN GAMES
There is a reason lawn games are so popular. They are easy and fun, and don’t take a lot of time and resources. No lawn? No worries - we use our lawn games at indoor venues all the time.
5. KEEP IT CASUAL
There is no need for a formal seating chart and a sit down dinner here. Offer a cocktail style reception where guests are free to mingle about and move from the different entertainment areas.
6. GO BIG
Decorate with giant balloons! We absolutely love this trend! Use the giant 3’ balloons in your graduation colors to add big, bold pops of color. Or you can use clear balloons and put fun confetti and even miniature LED lights inside!

Albums Albums are a great way to showcase the images from your session. • Our albums are custom designed with spreads that have a lot of white space to spreads that are nothing but the images. The albums have quite a few options for the cover, from distressed leather to our standard linen covers. You can even customize the album even more by adding text to the cover! Some cover options let you add in what’s called a fill to the text, giving the album a more eye-catching effect. • We offer what we call an Unbound Album. Unbound Albums are a great piece of moving art! It includes an Amish-made hand-crafted box with spaces for the included 5x7 gift prints, and places to keep little momentos or notes!

Ad-Ons • Outside of the custom wall art and albums, we offer a variety of Add-On options for you! These include what we call a gift print. Gift prints are 8x10 or smaller prints that come on archival quality paper. These gift prints are great to give to family members! • Another Add-On we offer is our custom designed cards. With the photos that are ordered, we can design something great. Wether it be for a graduation or a Save the Date, we’ve got you covered. 52
the fine print With so many styles and printing methods to choose from at The Studio, finding senior announcements that match your style (and budget) is easier than ever.
1. Precious metels. Gold, silver, or copper
foil adds a glamorous edge by spotlighting a few artfully written words or a design feature, like a deco border.
2. Elevated type. If you love the elegance
of an engraved invitation - but don’t love the cost it incurs - consider thermography. The ink-and-resin combo creates a glossy, raised effect that feels formal.
3. Get it together. Among the most
economical options, seal-and-sends eliminate the need for multiple enclosures; they’re invitation and reception card cleverly folded into one.
4. Digital revolution. The latest digital
printing technique showcases vivid hues and intricate motifs. The end result? Edge-to-edge color that’s smooth to the touch.
5. Picture perfect. What better use for
those senior pics than a mash-up of your favorite shots? Photo-filled invites are fresh and contemporary.
6. Make an impresson. For your letterpress stationary, a vintage machine presses ink into heavy-stock cotton-fiber paper. The look can be traditional or quirky, depending on the design.

what to wear Bright – jewel toned colors. Complimentary layers. Functional clothing: if you want to get the most out of your poses, you need to be able to sit, squat, stand, etc in your outfits. Classic and thin chained jewelry paired with simple earrings. A variety of outfits that show off your true personality: at least one classic outfit + jeans, shorts, dress, skirts, etc‌ mix it up! NUDE undergarments. Tailored clothing that accentuates your best assets.
64
what not to wear Wrinkled & dull clothes. Busy patterns: camo, plaid, etc. Short length skirts, dresses and/or shorts that expose too much when sitting, squatting or bending over. Trendy and chunky jewelry that can draw attention away from your face. The same outfits of the same style over and over again: wearing four dresses over the course of your portraits won’t show variety. Cleavage bearing tops & blouses. Tight fitting clothing that can accentuate problem areas.
shalemphotography.com 65
Warm Skin Tones Warm skin tones are usually deep and have yellow, olive, or tan undertones. People with warm skin tones (called “summers) usually have brunette hair, red hair (with brown eyes) and black hair. Most warm toned people have dark or hazel eyes. Quick Tip: jewel tones still look good on warm tones, but deeper in color (eggplant instead of purple, deep teal instead of electric blue) Complimentary Colors: khaki, gray, olive green, orange, coral
66
cool Skin Tones Cool skin tones are usually pale and have blue, pink, or magenta undertones. People with cool skin tones (called “winters”) usually have light blonde hair, red hair, and light eyes. Some have extreme contrast s like dark brown hair with blue eyes and pale skin. Quick Tip: if you have blue eyes, wear blue… And the same goes for green eyes and a green outfit Complimentary Colors: blues, greens, purples

boho BEAUTIFUL Whether you’re wanderlust at heart or a wild spirit, this boho look is for you! This style is the love child of the gypsies and the 1970s and is such a great way to bring emotional freedom into your senior portraits! Most boho looks are light and airy with sheer fabrics and lace while others are full or bold tribal patterns and hints of middle Eastern flair. You can mix and match these two options or keep them separate for two completely different looks.
A FEW TIPS AND TRICKS TO KEEP IT POLISHED If you decide on sheer fabrics, remember to bring NUDE under garments to maintain your modesty. Black or white under garments will definitely show through. Stackable bangles are HUGE accessories for this look and can add to the authenticity of the style. Headbands (for across the forehead) also bring a certain genuine look to match this gypsy throwback style. The more rings, the better! The more layers you have on, the better! Add on a cheer kimono, fur vest belted with a skinny belt, boot socks, and everything else you can think of!
COLORS TO MIX AND MATCH Cream & blush Cream & nude Cream & pink Middle Eastern tones Indian Tones

Glam it up with your favorite dress that flatters you to the core! If you don’t have a dress yet, always remember that you can rent one from www.couturehouserentals.com or borrow one from our studio collection (sizes 2-10)!
A FEW TIPS AND TRICKS TO KEEP IT POLISHED The length of your dress speaks loudly! A short dress means you’re the life of the party and ready to go! White and long dress exudes elegance and Hollywood glamour! Always remember to bring the appropriate NUDE undergarments for your dress: Strapless or convertible bra, SPANX, seamless underwear, shapewear, etc. If you want to showcase this look for your senior portraits, always bring a back up just in case! Keep in mind that the more sequins and embellishments on your dress usually means that you should keep your accessories to a minimum. Vice versa goes for a simple dress.

urban STREET Whether it’s military combat boots, leather jackets, or bold angular patterns, urban street style is always a great modern look for your senior portraits. If you’re looking for a hard edge, stick with dark muted tones and tailored outfits that are as straight lacked as your boots. If you want to soften it up a bit, add a few brighter new threads with thrift shop finds and remember to throw it back a bit to the ‘80s and ‘90s.
A FEW TIPS AND TRICKS TO KEEP IT POLISHED Want to brighten up a foundation of dark colors? Try a printed pair of leggings with a pop of color. Remember the shoes: To really kick up your outfit and keep it real, throw on a pair of legit underground kicks. Play with either ankle cut or high tops sneaks for a more hip hop look and play with military lace ups or combats for that army brat look. Jackets: The only way to go for think look is to keep it structured and dark. Black leather jackets or army green twill will keep your look muted and edgy. Keep them matte with metal accents for authenticity.

casually CAREFREE One of the best things you can remember when deciding your senior portrait wardrobe is to BE YOURSELF! If denim cut-offs, sandals, and a slouchy knit top is your way of relaxing, let one of you outfits show that off! Don’t be scared of this style – you can still keep it looking pretty! Whether you like bold colors or muted tones, there is so much you can do with this casual senior look! The huge plus to this style is that it completely transitions into any season so there’s no reason to worry about the weather!
A FEW TIPS AND TRICKS TO KEEP IT POLISHED A casual classic will always be denim. Whether it’s cut-off shorts, boot cut jeans, or denim skinnies, you can always transform this look into whatever you want it to be. Keep your colors neutral and bold (instead of soft) to play up your primary colors. If you want to add a few complimentary colors, throw on a super fun scarf. To keep this look casual, keep your top loose fitting and/or slouchy.
