PEARL CITY- ABU DHABI TYPE: URBAN PLANNING LOCATION: 24°26’16.2”N 54°41’59.1”E ABU DHABI ORGANIZATION: STUDIO KIA ROLE: ASSISTED IN LANDSCAPE STATUS: CONCEPTUAL STORY: The unique Pearl rises from the waterbeds. The rings of urban districts as individual clusters depict the Pearls from a string. Each cluster has a different architectural character, landscape treatment and visual ambience to give it an identity, and is yet part of a unified whole; just as each Pearl is unique but is yet stringed together to form an ornament of beauty.

Circulation pattern: Access points to the proposed development have been taken into consideration from the Surrounding environs and the road network as existing or proposed, abutting the site. These roads flow through the proposed Development to form a part of the traffic Circulation system within.

Circulation pattern: The Pearl String, The kidney shaped ‘Pearl String’ forms a primary vehicular circulation movement, connecting the various massing developments.

Building mass and Open Area: The massing is like creating an environment and supporting a kind of evolutionary diversity of innovation, rather than trying to design some monolithic system. It is really more organic to empower and enable nature, rather than trying to control it.

Landscaped greens & open areas: Urban Nature Walk A 2 km long, trendy urban nature walk is an undulating and uninterrupted green corridor on either side of the central avenue in the heart of the larger development.

Meandering green spine The dark green meandering spine is the natural connect that weaves its way around the built mass to flow from one end of the development to the other.

Landscaped greens & open areas: The open spaces are clearly defined and relate to the built environment. The dark green meandering spine offers a walk-able city that increases human interaction. The ‘Pearls’ are enveloped within rings of greens which create soft boundaries to each urban district within the larger development.

LAL KOTHI, DONA PAULA, GOA TYPE: RESIDENTIAL LOCATION: 15°27’16.5”N 73°49’41.9”E GOA ORGANIZATION: MSSDESIGN ROLE: COMPLETION STATUS: COMPLETED PROGRAMME: The site is a sloping parcel of land which is characteristic of a Goan hillside. Its sharp slopes extend all the way down to the river Zuari in the south, and is flanked by lush tropical greens on its east and west with the approach road on its north. The lot itself though was largely barren other than a large, frail looking mango tree that occupied the centre.

The result was a breathtakingly satisfying composition: of a merrily flowing river at the far end, enjoyed through an ideal arrangement of palm groves, under which wooden canoes regularly get pulled up by hard-working fishermen while your eyes wander over the white kitchen smoke escaping the roofs of their age old fishing village among the periodic tintinnabulations of the village temple.

UPPER GROUND FLOOR PLAN

The very first ideas emerged when the visibly unhealthy looking mango tree located right in the middle of the plot had miraculously revived itself, as though finding a new purpose in life. This was certainly a good omen, which immediately brought the tree among central ideas for the house. It was surveyed in detail, its branches mapped to see that none of it had to be cropped to accommodate the structure.

CRETE- PV BUNGALOW, MARGAO TYPE: URBAN PLANNING LOCATION: 15°16’49.7”N 74°00’21.3”E MARGAO ORGANIZATION: STUDIO KIA ROLE: ARCHITECT IN CHARGE STATUS: UNDER CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME: The idea for the coining of the term ‘crete’ was arrived from the word ‘concrete’. As the name suggest this building has a concrete luxury home setup. Client had the wish to introduce an European contemporary style to the whole system. The home setup was individualized with totally automated technology which increased the extravagant lifestyle.

The plan designs were to discover the ultimate comfort and accommodation received from the creation. A classy delicate finishing was provided to the interiors. The slope created was divided in the form of easy accessibility to the ground floor and direct entrance towards the basement area. Concept designed were segregated to 3 zones including live - in block, relax block and residential block. The plan offers plenty of space and extra detailed styling.

Spacious interiors built in with modern materials created a European style to the plot. It was completely designed and executed based on the client’s requirements and budget. Focusing on space, colors and shape was to create a sleek and fresh interior and exterior styling. Inclusion of innovative materials and abstracts formed to showcase the real beauty curving in the whole architectural spaces.

The major issue for expansion was to create large footprint area and to increase the parking space. Inverted building concept was used to evolve a solidified architectural mass and elegance in the creation. The department divisions were created by interlinking 5 blocks to create a broad view to the structure.

The site is located adjacent to the famous ourem creek that flows north south along the rua de ourem on the other side, that flanks the heritage area of mala- Fountainais. The recently upgraded bus station lies walking distance from the site. The Primary Feature of the master plan consists of creating a large plaza that connects the two banks of the querem creek.

Thus connecting patto plaza to the main city in a seamless way. The plaza would unfold new vistas of the creek and mangroves. The circular void looks at the assembly hall that also serves as a projection screen. The Restaurants on the lower deck to attract visitor, tourist & sports enthusiasts and the terrace above would provide a much required foreground to the building the plaza thus provides free movement of the people from both the sides in the city as well as from the station.

It’s a nature rich area which opens up the designer’s mentality to its fullest. Practical pattern of study or rather a free flow design study was an idea behind the development of this establishment.

An eco - friendly concept where nature can be encapsulated within the mental frame to cherish even the smallest detail to its maximum. Taking into account, the simplicity of what the nature has to offer encourages the true value of any work of art. Exploring different perspectives and to think of nature in motion was the focus of providing education in real life. Environment balance was attained with pl ates inserted on the slope and pinned to the ground promoting a natural impact which in turn creates minimum disturbance to the nature. Using the natural world to start a place for open ended design is always an inspiration to the creative world. To work on design thinking, the inside along with the outside bulletin brushes up the entire outlook, which was Incorporated into the style of building.

NATURAL SOLUTION- THESIS TYPE: EDUCATIONAL-DESIGN THESIS LOCATION: 9°44’55.3”N 77°15’88.35”E INDIA SEMESTER: 8TH SEMESTER MENTOR: AVINASH BHAWE PROGRAMME: A beautiful spot which can be put to maximum benefit was the idea behind the whole process. A ‘sustainable architecture’ concept was Incorporated to develop the basic facilities for the local tribes without demotivating the scenic beauty of the place. Encouraging the localities for the daily living measures by providing job opportunity from the onset of the project.

Objective * To avail the land judiciously * To create a slot for job opportunity * To up-skill the education system * To develop the Gavi Eco tourism Methodology * Providing all the basic amenities within the 20 cent of land and a guaranteed job opportunity * Advancing tourism and farming as the source of income * Equipping a basic school facilities * Developing an interpretation centre to enhance the tourism sector

Expected outcome * Creating a small village unit of 12 houses which can be repeated. Keeping a dedicated slot for the livestocks and expansion facilities * Development of tourism village concept can provide beyond 500 job opportunity * Educating kids with the aim of promoting basic survival measures through a primary school which is green in construction and nature friendly. * Interpretation centre and other facilities will attract more tourist flow to enjoy the innate beauty of the nature.

PROBLEM- A geographical location such as Gavi which is rich in many ways still stands as a dream for the local tribes specially in terms of education and basic facilities. Though the prosperity of nature is high, it was never a feasible solution for an entire society who resides there. The Governmental plan for investing money in the tourism sector for the area where education and source of income was still a dream, created a positive idea for adding up both the needs of the adivasi community and the tourism field where my developed idea can be put to use. To converge a naturalistic solution for creating a bubble to incorporate human habitation without disturbing the natural energy was the entire ideology. This was achieved through a design approach where in the buildings, furnishings and surroundings were encouraged to become a part of an unified community

SCHOOL ZONING Puzzle of joining the dots and finding its best revolving axis as a response to the context, climate and site conditions would result in the best usability of space or location.

To modify the existing development without causing a drastic variations and a scholarly use of technology was the intention that was Incorporated to the process. Generating a sense of well being in the same area where their own locality belongs is where the true depth of archeological beauty lies.

Education without restriction and enveloping the experience that the nature has to provide are the best possible remedy for creating a successful generation. Colours that nature shows and the inclusion of why anyone should embark on the principles of life should be the main theme of what the school provides.
