Stitching Stories is a project about a women’s textile workshop nestled in the charming neighbourhood of San Frediano in Florence’s Oltrarno district. The workshop celebrates the role of women in the textile industry and addresses the urgent need to combat the fast fashion crisis by promoting the art of self-repairing garments. It also aims to cater to Italy’s largest minority group by producing and selling adaptive clothing for individuals with disabilities. The construction of the workshop reflects the principles of textile production and corsetry, resulting in an architecture that uses tailoring techniques, such as a variety of stitching methods, to address questions of construction and inclusivity. Each section of the building is meticulously crafted to cater to the specific needs of garment production, drawing inspiration from the art of corsetry.
