Welcome

We would like to welcome everyone to our first private treaty bull sale preview. We have in the past sold our bulls off the farm and at other consignment sales but felt the need this year to preview our bulls in a catalogue format. All bulls this year will be sold off the farm as private treaty. We are very proud of the pen of bulls we have assembled this year and invite all to come view this sale offering in person. Although not deep in numbers, we feel the quality runs deep in this pen from top to bottom. Myself along with my wife Nicole and my daughters Emily and Kacie operate McKevitt Black Angus We are a mixed operation with acres dedicated to crop production, forage production and grassland, with Mike being the fourth generation of our family in over a century to farm this land. Emily and Kacie will represent the fifth generation of our family to farm in this area. We started out in the purebred business 10 years ago when we acquired our first purebred bred heifer. It has grown now to include 30 purebred females that we will be calving out this year. We have added foundation females to our herd since from several very respectable herds, either through consignment, production or dispersal sales and have retained heifers from these females that we feel closely match the ideal type of cattle we are striving to produce. We also run a commercial herd which consists of approx. 135 head of black and red angus cross females. Our purebred females are treated for the most part identically to our commercial females with the only difference being that the purebred females are pulled into closer quarters the end of January for calving, other then that they are wintered with the commercial females. The bulls have been fed a balanced ration of rolled oats, protein supplement, mineral and free choice hay. Their ration has been targeted for weight gain of 2.5 to 3 lbs per day. A good friend once said,” it is our responsibility as seedstock producers to develop a bull, not fatten them” and we live by that philosophy. The bulls are kept in a feedlot setting until the middle of February at which point calving begins for us, so they are moved to a large pasture to continue their development and to ensure they are athletic enough to go on and breed without any physical problems. We have numerous bulls suited for heifers and other suited for use on second calvers and up. We put a lot of emphasis on calving ease and maternal strength when selecting all females and bulls in our herd. We don’t like to have problems when calving and don’t expect our customers to either. We welcome everyone to come and tour the bull pen and cow herd at anytime. Mike is typically not far from home. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale at the back of the catalogue and feel free to call or email Mike with any questions. We appreciate the opportunity to highlight our genetics and thank you for taking the time to look through our offering.

This guy has power written all over him. This bull comes from a cow family we are very proud to display. The Merit Pride family is one to be admired from far and wide and this bull does this cow family justice in every sense. He has the mass, the depth, the lower quarter, and the eye appeal to be everything this breed exemplifies. He is a TANK. He will add pounds to your calves, but also put a lot of heifers in the replacement pen. Recommended for Cows

221E - $5000

We had this bull on display along side his dam at the Sask. Angus tour this summer. He was easily spotted in the pen offering that day, not just for his early muscle development, depth, and overall phenotype, but also for the dam he was standing beside. The dam, who was the high selling bred heifer at the MJT dispersal sale, offers the best of the breed. Body mass, depth, spring of rib and a near perfect udder to boot. We think 221E offers a lot of the characteristics of a great herd bull prospect and would work well in most programs. He was the lead bull in our champion pen of bulls at Edam Fall Fair. Recommended for Cows

If there was a stud in the pen, this guy fits the bill. He is very proud in his presence and such should be. His picture says it all. The maternal strength behind this bull says all that needs to be said about 2E. I would only expect the best uddered, most feminine females to come from his progeny as the Bennita cows are known for that here. He was apart of our grand champion pen of bulls as Edam Fall Fair this year. Recommended for Cows

109E - $3500

109E is a direct son from an Annie K cow we purchased from the GEIS dispersal sale. This cow exemplifies every attribute the Annie K cow family is known for across the land. He has that extra wide loin, deep muscle, and big square hip that make him a very desirable meat producer, which is what we all like to see in our calves in the fall. Recommended for cows.

227E - $5500

227E is the fireball in the pen. He was born in early April but be damned if he isn’t catching up to those February and March born calves in a hurry. Out of another cow we purchased from the MJT dispersal, 227E is quickly becoming one of the favourite bulls in the pen. He has the eye appeal, structure, presence, depth, thickness, and foot structure which we feel will make an ideal herd bull. He is young, but he is early maturing and will test up with all the others in this pen. I could write a whole paragraph about the dam behind this bull. She easily rises to the top with her femininity, power, structure, and perfect udder. She is easily spotted in the pen. Recommended for heifers

If I could pick a bull out of the pen that most resembles his sire, Focal Point 6C, who was the lead off bull for $12,000 at the Get r Done bull sale a couple of years ago, 72E would fit that bill. He has the depth, the rib, the quarter, and the overall eye appeal which we strive for in this breed. He definitely checks off a lot of boxes for us. He is very easy to pick from the pen for these attributes. He comes from a direct Kodiak 5R daughter. Kodiak offers some of the most well-known calving ease, early gestation genetics in Canada. The Kodiak daughters crossed with Focal Point have produced some of the strongest bulls in our pen. Recommended for heifers & cows.

A heifer bull prospect in the making. 65E comes from a first calf Kodiak 5R daughter we acquired from Wright Black Angus. He has that smooth shoulder and neck extension combined with a low birth weight out of a first calver that make him a sure-fire heifer bull. He has that extra rib and depth in his loin that will add those extra pounds in the fall. Recommended for Heifers and Cows.

A stout made bull out of an Stuart Fighting Irish bred female. 7E would hail from the same cow family as our Lot 3E bull. He comes from an Irish first calver. The Irish females have always impressed us for their confirmation, structure, and calving ease attributes. He is the smooth shouldered, long necked, sleep easy heifer bull we expected from this mating. Recommended for heifers.

Reference Sire WINDY WILLOWS FOCAL POINT 6C

6C

6C was the $12,000.00 lead off bull for Windy Willows Angus in the Get R Done Bull Sale a couple of years ago. We purchased this bull sight unseen, based on a reference from Kelly Feige and Bob Toner and we are sure happy we did. This bull has done everything we expected him to do and then more. He has left us with our deepest, most stout, and most consistent pen of bulls to date. We selected this bull for his exceptional thickness, structure, and moderate frame to compliment our cow herd that we have assembled. We also selected him for the maternal strength in his pedigree and calving ease genetics he offered. He has produced such an exceptional group of bulls and heifers for us in his first calf crop, that it was an easy decision to breed all our females to him again this year, so all our customers can expect the same depth and quality in our pen next year.
