Paste-Up Portraiture
with Street Artist Baby Guerrilla Coinciding with The Percivals and linking with the city’s growing street art scene, leading Australian street artist Baby Guerrilla will visit Townsville to create a new work. Baby Guerrilla’s iconic, large-scale paste-ups depict floating and flying figures, adorn walls around the country. Of her practice, Baby Guerrilla states, “Over the past couple of years I have sought to create a series of works liberated from the constraints of the standard picture plane. My intention is to make my work appear to defy gravity and to evoke a sense of wonder, freedom and escape. I am interested in approaching space and perspective in new and innovative ways that engage beyond the parameters of a gallery or traditional art space.” Date: July 2016
Families of Townsville with LensCap Collective
LensCap Collective and Gallery Services, Townsville City Council collaborate to take portraiture to the streets in 2016. Families of Townsville follows on from the highly successful Faces of Townsville project of 2014, this time tracing the history of some of the city’s founding families. LensCap Collective’s extensive research has unearthed interesting images and facts about each of the selected families, and ties with the city’s T150 celebrations. The project is accompanied by a small publication and map of locations of the works to assist you in exploring the streets of Townsville, from the CBD to the suburbs. Date: June 2016
