Metamorphosis: the art of Tom Moore
Metamorphosis is the 2016 Glencore Children’s Exhibition, and focuses on the stunning hybrid life-forms of leading Australian glass artist Tom Moore. Moore’s menagerie of characters combine botanical, zoological, and mechanical elements. Drawing inspiration from “the sharp observational wit of literary absurdists such as Edward Lear and… Dr Seuss”, the works are simultaneously humorous and insightful, giving us great joy, while also providing pause for thought about the human impact on the natural world. Saturday 27, Sunday 28 August, 10.30am to 1.30pm Tom Moore will be in the gallery talking about his work and running drawing workshops; teaching kids young and old how to make their very own weird and wonderful hybrid creations.
Every weekend of Metamorphosis is going to be action packed with workshops, artist talks, dress ups and games for the whole family to enjoy. Perc Tucker Regional Gallery will have free art workshops running from 10am to 1pm every weekend during Metamorphosis. Flying Fish Saturday 3, Sunday 4 September Make your very own 3D artwork using glass, paper and string which will go on display in the Gallery. Wonderful Worlds Saturday 10, Sunday 11 September Be inspired by Metamorphosis and create your own work in this cool snow globe making workshop. Hybrid Creations Saturday 17, Sunday 18 September Join an artist to make your own robots and hybrid monsters from a huge range of objects and materials. Modernist Masterpieces Saturday 24, Sunday 25 September Make an abstract sculpture to either take home or leave on display in the Gallery. Absurd Aquariums Saturday 1, Sunday 2 October Create your own underwater landscape, just watch out for sharks! Mechanical Marvels Saturday 8, Sunday 9 October Create cool characters and people using tools, car parts, nuts and bolts. Quirky Dessert Decorating Saturday 15, Sunday 16 October Decorate a dessert with some weird, wonderful and edible features to create a Tom Moore inspired treat to take home and enjoy. Terrific Terrariums Saturday 22, Sunday 23 October Create your own little world in this fun and interactive workshop.
