It was a stylized propeller in blue/white segments; a representation of what a pilot sees when they see the propellers in flight. The colors come from the flag of Bavaria. The founders were Franz Josef Popp, Karl Rapp and Camillo Castiglioni. The CEO and Chairman of the Board of Management was Harald Kruger. Initially, BMW was Rapp Motorenwerke, an aircraft manufacturing company In 1918, BMW produced its first aircraft engine called BMW IIIa. Soon after, the company produced jet engine and Warcraft designs for World War II. In 1959, the company suffered from financial crisis and switched to automobile manufacturing.
