Story behind the Wood Cravings
The island of Borneo was blessed with an abundant supply of hardwood. For centuries, the tribes of Borneo depended on the forest for their physical and spiritual sustenance. Hardwood was used to build longhouses whereas softer wood was carved into utility objects.
Most tribes of Borneo: Iban, Rungus, Bidayuh, Murut, Kenyah and Kayan, all lived in longhouses.
