01 INTRODUCTION

Our overall solution is to elevate the brand to encompass a wider audience through a complete redesign of the company’s identity. We have brought in a new identity system that includes logotypes, wordmarks, and various graphic elements that will require standards for future usage. Therefore, the purpose of the manual is to aid in consistent and effective usage of the elements of the brand. The manual will include guidelines for proper spacing and orientation of all logotypes, proper usage of primary and secondary color palettes, and the identity and business system items that will be used for the business.

02

Logotypes

PRIMARY MARKS SECONDARY MARKS INAPPROPRIATE USAGE

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / Full Color The full color logotype is primarily used to represent the business and exists in a two-color variation with graphic elements presented as such. This mark is to be used as often as possible and should be used on all business system items. The logo is to be stacked vertically and should be used in this manner whenever it is possible. The graphic elements within the logotype are not be rearranged or removed for this variation. If it is necessary to show the logo without graphic elements, please refer to the wordmarks and alternative logotypes presented later in the manual.

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / Full Color R E Q U I R E D BU F F E R S PA C E

To ensure that the logotype will not be overcrowded, use the ‘brewery’ element repeated on all four sides of the mark to measure a proportionate amount of space around the logo whenever it is used. This will create a boundary around the logo to make sure it will be clearly read at all times.

Primary Mark / Full Color MINIMUM SIZE

To further ensure a clear and effective read of the full color primary mark, the minimum size that can be used will be a height of 0.75 in. and a width of 1.25 in. From this size, the type on the mark can still be recognizable and readable. Any smaller than this size, it will present a challenge for the readability of the mark.

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / 1-Color Positive The 1-color primary mark is to be used whenever the full color cannot be displayed. If printing in color is not possible, use this variation in place of the fullcolor mark. Acceptable color options for this mark are limited to the colors in the primary color palette—navy (shown above), amber, and brown. Navy and brown colors may only be used on light-colored backgrounds. Amber, since it is a lighter color, may only be used on dark-colored backgrounds. This mark may be used when displaying the logo in a size smaller than the minimum size of the full-color primary mark.

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / 1-Color Positive A C C E P TA B L E C O L O R S

The 1-color positive primary mark may be shown in any color from the primary color palette, as displayed on the right. This includes the 2 dark color options and 1 light color option. To ensure consistency in the materials produced by the business, these will be the only colors that may be used for this variation.

02 LOGOTYPES

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / 1-Color Positive R E Q U I R E D BU F F E R S PA C E

Same as with the full-color primary mark, use the ‘brewery’ element repeated on all four sides of the mark to measure a proportionate amount of space around the logo whenever it is used. This will allow the buffer space to be proportionate when scaled down or up.

Primary Mark / 1-Color Positive MINIMUM SIZE

The minimum size that can be used for the 1-color primary mark will be a height of 0.5 in. and a width of 0.75 in. This is the smallest size in which all of the elements of the mark can still be distinguished as recognizable symbols and letterforms.

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / 1-Color Reversed Out The 1-color reversed out primary mark is to be used whenever the full color cannot be displayed. This mark should be used as less as possible due to readability issues that may be problematic with the nature of reversed out type. Note that the hand symbol in the logotype is stylized differently than on the other variations to ensure that it will still read as a hand. This variation can be used on applications when necessary and will include the widest range of acceptable colors.

02 LOGOTYPES

Primary Mark / 1-Color Reversed-Out A C C E P TA B L E C O L O R S

The 1-color reversed-out primary mark may be shown in any color from the primary and secondary color palettes except the color “off-white. This includes a variety of light and dark colors that can be used.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / Full Color The full color secondary wordmark is to be used whenever the primary mark cannot be used. The full color variation of this mark includes a tagline that can be used in place of the primary mark when it is needed. This mark offers an alternative without any graphic elements. The full color variation should only exist in these colors. It should also be shown stacked vertically with the tagline beneath the wordmark. The tagline should not be moved if using this variation.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / Full Color R E Q U I R E D BU F F E R S PA C E

The ‘1’ in ‘1988’ serves to create a buffer zone around the secondary mark. Similar to the primary mark, this is to further ensure the effectiveness of the mark in communicating to the viewer. As the wordmark contains only type, it is important to give ample space around the wordmark to separate it from other type that may be present.

02 LOGOTYPES

2 IN

1 IN

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / Full Color MINIMUM SIZE

The minimum size that can be used for the full color secondary mark with a tagline will be a height of 1 in. and a width of 2 in. The sizing is set at this minimum to ensure that the tagline can still be read clearly.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / 1-Color Positive The 1-color secondary wordmark is to be used whenever the full color wordmark cannot be used. This mark will be used in place of the primary mark on certain applications that require a more narrow mark. This wordmark can also be used in any color taken from the primary palette. By using a 1-color variation, it is important to be mindful of maintaining a high contrast between the wordmark and its surrounding elements.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / 1-Color Positive A C C E P TA B L E C O L O R S

The 1-color secondary wordmark may be shown in any color from the primary color palette. The limited color options are meant to reinforce the colors that are more closely tied to the brand.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline /1-Color Positive R E Q U I R E D BU F F E R S PA C E

The ‘1’ in ‘1988’ is used as a buffer area around the secondary mark. This helps to achieve a proportionate buffer area for different sizes of the logo. Similar with the full color variation, the mark requires ample space around the wordmark to separate it from other type that may be present.

02 LOGOTYPES

2 IN

1 IN

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / 1-Color Positive MINIMUM SIZE

The minimum size that can be used for the full color secondary mark with a tagline will be a height of 1 in. and a width of 2 in. It has the same minimum size as the full color variation because the main type is large enough to be read at this size. The size of the tagline needs to be readable at all times when using this mark.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Wordmark with Tagline / 1-Color Reversed Out The 1-color reversed out secondary wordmark is to be used whenever the full color or 1-color positive variations cannot be displayed. This variation can be used on applications when necessary and will include the widest range of acceptable colors. It should primarily be used on darker backgrounds to ensure contrast.

02 LOGOTYPES

Secondary Mark with Tagline / 1-Color Reversed-Out A C C E P TA B L E C O L O R S

The 1-color reversed-out secondary wordmark may be shown in any color from the primary and secondary color palettes. With the tagline, it is important to choose colors that will not detract from the readability of the tagline.

02 LOGOTYPES

Symbol Mark / Full Color The full color symbol mark can be used in place of the primary/ secondary logotypes as long as the company name is present. If one or both colors are not legible against the background or paper color on printed material, use the 1-Color or Reversed-Out variations.

Symbol Mark / 1-Color The 1-color symbol mark can be used when the full color version is not sufficient. Colors that can be used include all of those in the primary and secondary palettes.

Symbol Mark / 1-Color Reversed Out The 1-color reversed out symbol mark can be used when the 1-color version is not sufficient. This includes when the symbol is to be placed upon a dark colored background.

02 LOGOTYPES

Inappropriate Usage Any of the logotypes shown previously should not be altered inappropriately, in any way affecting legibility or readability of the logotype. Examples are shown below, however, good jugdment should be used at all times. Logotypes should not be stretched or squished.

Colors outside of the primary and secondary color palettes may not be used in the logotype.

Drop shadows and any other style effects may not be used to supplement the logotypes.

02 LOGOTYPES

The logotype should never be cropped and should always be shown in full at all times.

All part of the logotype should be used at all times. If a shortened version is desired, use the symbol mark.

B R E W E RY

Other typefaces should never be used in place of the given custom type.

The logotype should not be placed on top of any patterns as it will detract from the logo and make it hard to read.

Identity System

GRAPHIC ELEMENTS PRIMARY AND SECONDARY COLOR PALETTES T YPEFACES

03 IDENTITY SYSTEM

Graphic Elements The identity system consists of 3 primary graphic elements: the individual wheat, the wheat duo, and a 3-grain decorative element created from the wheat grains. The colors used on the elements are from the primary color palette to keep consistency with the brand. These elements can be used on business system items and digital and print applications. The wheat element has a full color and 1-color simplified variation. They can be used on print and digital applications in a pattern or individually as page dividers, etc. The 1-color variations can also exist in any other color taken from the primary color palettes. The last graphic element is the 3-grain decorative element. It provides a more abstract shape that is purely for decorative use. The divider exists in 2-color and 1-color variations from the primary color palette as well. These elements can be used on printed applications, such as on restaurant menus or flyers, as page dividers.

03 IDENTITY SYSTEM

Patterns The identity system consists of a pattern created from the wheat graphic element. The wheat element is shown in 1-color pattern in a darker hue over a background color from the primary color palette. The second pattern shows the same pattern reversed out on a background with a color from the primary color palette. These patterns can be applied to the business system, as seen on the back of the letterhead and on the flap of the envelope, or as backgrounds on digital and print applications.

Line Rules The line rule incorporated in the business system is a 1pt dotted line rule. This can be used in both the business system and on applications. Line weights should always be 1pt. Any color from the primary and secondary color palettes can be used, as shown below.

Primary Color Palette The primary color palette consists of four colors: mauve, crimson, plum, and espresso. These colors can be used on all digital and print applications as well as primary business and identity system items for the business. However, to ensure that the colors are used appropriately, maintain a high contrast when using the elements. Espresso, being the darkest color, can be used as body text, such as on the restaurant menu, or as a background color that has lighter elements placed on it. Since plum, espresso and crimson are closer in value, they are not to be placed on top of one another, especially on print materials.

03 IDENTITY SYSTEM

Secondary Color Palette The secondary color palette consists of four colors: amber, cream, moss, and golden. These colors are to be used on applications, such as on packaging labels. The secondary colors may also be used on the business system items, however, the primary color palette should have a stronger presence on items directly related to the business. These colors should not be used on any logotypes or wordmarks. Tints and shades of these colors may be used.

03 IDENTITY SYSTEM

Typefaces The two typefaces used for the business are Marion and Eastside. Eastside and Marion Bold can be used for headers and subheaders. To maintain consistency, Marion Bold should be used in all caps with tracking set to 50 pts. for headers. Eastside should not be set in all caps for headers and tracking should be set to 0. The bold weights should not be used for body text. Italics for both typefaces should be used sparingly. When showing the serif typeface on reversed out on a dark background, use a larger type size to ensure that the text is legible.
