Greeting Readers, 2 What a lovely day it is today! If it don’t seem lovely to you , make your day better by doing something positive. This month is the month of GREEN! I know that St. Patrick Day is around the corner , you know the old saying: “You will get pinched if you don’t have green on , on the day of St.Patrick’s Day. I remember it especially being a kid. You can go green all this month by keeping your community clean. The spring is near. It will be time for flowers to grow. Do you believe in lucky four leaf cover or gold at the end of the rainbow? For me, my answer is no. Stay positive everyone and become who you want to be in life no matter what! Editor Love, Shanna Stroud

4 SP:We want to thank you for this interview with Shanna's Plugins Magazine, how are you? SG:It's my pleasure to be doing this interview, thanks for asking me. I'm doing well, I cannot complain. SP:Could you share a little of background sport history ? SG:I've been playing basketball since I was 7 years old and played on my first basketball team when I was in the 5th grade on a pee-wee team. I played for Crossett High for three years, and received a basketball scholarship to Arkansas Tech University, and my sophomore year I transferred and received another scholarship to Delta State University. SP:Tell us about your drive for this particular sport ? I've always loved the game since the first day I picked up a ball. I am very competitive and like to give 100% whenever I'm on the court. My abilities of being a leader and captain on the court, also has allowed me to be a leader outside of basketball, all those characteristics have carried over into my young adult life. I love the game, and couldn't imagine my life without ball, although this is my last year of playing, I know that I'll always be around the game, whether playing for fun, or coaching somewhere. SP: What has been some feedback you have received so far from your fans? SG: while I was in Jr High and High school have always been so supportive and very encouraging. They've really made this journey worth traveling especially when things got hard for me. The fans back home always seems to know what to say and when to say it whenever I need it. Their confidence in the player that I've become makes me work harder whenever I step on the court.

K-PHI-9 was originally founded by Rodney Miller and Cornelius Strilbing in 1990 at Abbott Park on 95th and state. The group was noted as an inner city Fraternity step organization, who colors were blue and gold, and with only 9 members instantly made noise around Chicago. The K-PHI-9 Dance Troupe was started by Marcus Hendrix in 1993 at Jackson Park Field House on 64th and Stony Island with only 6 members in hopes of helping the inner city youth to express themselves in dance and not violence that plagued out city. Their very first show was at Carver Park, and they made a statement by coming into 2nd place. From there K-phi-9 won numerous of talent shows throughout the Chicago area, and surrounding suburbs. Within just less than a year K-phi-9 was a name that was being notice throughout the Dance Community as a force to be reckoned with. The group enlistment also grew to over 40 kids within that short time, and they were in high demand for performances. In 1994 Marcus and K-phi-9 moved to Dyett Park on 51st and King Drive because of his promotion. With the dedication from the other members they followed the team and the dream. In that same year the membership increased from 40 to 95 youth from Stony Island to the Robert Taylor’s. K-phi-9 has opened up for such stars such as R-Kelly, Immature, Common, Brian McKnight, and the late great Bernie Mac just to name a few. With the success of the group on the rise, and the enrollment up to 90 plus Marcus dream became a reality, and that was to help save the youth from the streets, and perform. The group continued to move forward, and competed in the Regal Talent Showcase in 1995 that had over 30 acts and won in all categories, and to this very day no other dance group has ever done that. In 2002 the group grew apart due to the older age of the members and their desire to perform at that level again. But they still represented the blue and gold even to this very day. In 2010 Marcus had a vision and put a plan together to bring K-phi-9 back, along with the help of some Alumni’s it became a reality again. With the membership being much younger and mainly all females the stakes was high, and the odds were against K-phi-9. So with hard work and good training it was on again. They came and they conquered on the stage each and every time the opportunity was there. In the summer of 2012 K-phi-9 became the Bud Billiken Parade Champions in their category with over 20 others behind them, and with over 3 million people that witnessed that made it amazing. 5 K-phi-9 is here to stay, because of good leadership, good parents, supporters, and God being first….just like our mission statement says….God brought us together let know one tear us apart…
