Shannondell Residents Inspired By Lifelong Learning What do the Hubble, a Shakuhachi, cryptology, Mahjong, non-fiction, acting and President Gerald Ford all have in common? All are among the dozens of classes, workshops and group learning sessions available to residents of Shannondell at Valley Forge over the coming summer months. “We’re always learning something new,” says Mary, a Shannondell resident since 2007. She adds, “Just this morning we had our very lively current events group meeting, where we covered topics ranging from the upcoming presidential election and

in 2010, The Blue Ridge is the longest road planned as a single unit in the United States. It’s been called a “museum of the managed American countryside,” offering sweeping vistas and Appalachian heritage from The Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Shenandoah National Park. The product of a series of major public works projects that helped the Appalachian region climb out of the depths of the Great Depression, construction on the Parkway began in 1935 near the North Carolina and Virginia state line. Originally called the “Appalachian Scenic Highway,” the current name was Continued on pg. 8
