So emulators are pretty great. That kind of goes without saying. They’re like all purpose consoles for your computer that benefit from a limitless library of compatible games stored on sites all across the Internet. It really is a great time in history for anyone interested in playing classic arcade games on their PC or Mac.

There are literally dozens of sites out there that host massive libraries of MAME games that are available for free download and use with MAME emulators that are equally accessible. I have yet to look for a game and been unable to find the ROM that I need to quickly download and begin playing a game that I remember loving when I was a kid.

That being said, I have had some negative experience as well. I’ve gotten my computer bogged down with viruses and spyware on more than one occasion from taking a chance on a risky site or torrent that ended up being nothing but trash.

Now that I’ve been around the block a few times so to speak, I feel like I’m a little bit more savvy so to speak, but that doesn’t mean that I still don’t get tricked every once and awhile. I used to skimp on my antivirus software, but now I’ve learned enough to know that proper protection for my system is necessary whenever I use the Internet, but especially when I’m visiting websites that are related to MAME ROMs and emulators.

Whenever I find websites that I can consistently download virus free, high quality ROMs I book mark it and return over and over again to find the games that I love. But even then, so many of the ROMs are glitchy and buggy. Many require a good amount of work to get them running properly on my emulator. This is incredibly frustrating when all I want to do is just get to gaming and enjoying this game that I want to play so badly.

Thankfully, there’s some great software out there on the Internet as well to make sure that the emulator and the ROM are working well together so that I don’t have to be a computer guru to just do a kid’s job—play video games.

As a fan of MAME emulators and ROMs I’ve found a MAME emulator front end that works with the ROMs video and controller settings to get me playing straight away. It’s from a site called Gameex that is now ten years old and is regularly supported by patches and updates to make sure that everything continues to run smoothly. I’ve never had an issue with MAME emulator games not working or being so buggy that they were not playable.

If you want to simply play your games and not focus so much on the techie aspect of MAME emulation, give this program a try. Spend your time doing what you love— playing classic arcade games! Accomplishing this shouldn’t – and honestly, doesn’t—take a computer science degree.
