Eco Shed 02
This is the second Eco-Shed we have built for the Hammersmith Community Garden Association. It builds on the themes of the first one, of using recycled materials throughout and achieving a low carbon footprint. Whereas EcoShed 01 is ‘hidden away’, the site for the EcoShed 02 is Godolphin Gardens, a small park in Hammersmith, formed through bomb damage in the Second World War.
We were building over brick rubble and decided to form a Rubble Roof that would be a contrast to the Sedum roof of the first EcoShed and help reduce the waste removed from site. To reduce the miles travelled associated with the project the Contractor Ecolibrium built the building in their works in Kent and ‘delivered’ it to site, where it was hoisted over trees, onto railway lines and dropped onto the foundation. As with EcoShed 01, recycled materials and re-used materials are utilised throughout and the Rubble roof is after several months becoming colonised with local plants.
