ECOLOGICAL HYDRO- PLASTY | INCUBATING CONEY ISLAND

Studio Critic : Jason Vigneri Beane and Jonas Coersmeier Coney island is approaching an impending crisis soon in terms of economic breakdown , environmental catastrophes and infrastructural failures. These issues are all closely arising because of nonnegotiable water conditions. The Idea is to implement water related infrastructures and features in Coney island at multiple scales ,Such as embedding a canal system on the existing selected roads ,as water level is going to rise , elevating the existing underground water supply system to protect is from the rising underground water table , elevating the new public transport system connecting multiple economic potential zones in Coney island . Grafting these potential underdeveloped and defunct land pockets along the new canal system with a bio diverse ecological conditions of marshy wetland and a triple layered programmatic prototype which adapts ,maneuvers on this site and bring about a new cohesive biodiversity and economic stimulus in Coney island.

ALLUMINATUS | HEXADECA Studio Critic : Robert Cervellione

The proposed design is a multi-purpose surface, which deals with the ideas of human form, enclosure, as well as the filtration of light and air .The segmented aluminium panels are strategically creased and cut to allow the manipulation of each individual panel. This designed flexibility provides the opportunity for variation across all panels.

WATER AND CULTURE | THE NEW BROOKLYN MUSEUM Studio Critic : Henry Smith Miller and Michael Licht

New York City is in a continuous cultural flux since its genesis, and art forms have always been a medium of showcasing the cultural phenomenon of that time period. A contemporary art museum is an suitable intervention in a deteriorated neighborhood to be a stimuli of growth and reflecting the ambitions and aspirations of a society. The effort is to erode the boundaries of a thought that makes a museum a sacred box. Taking in to consideration its location and proximity with a highly volatile elements of water, wind and sun which has very strong characteristics of erosion and testing the elements in its path.

WETLAND AQUATIC THEATRE : EDUCATION AND RECREATION Studio Critic : Philip Parker, Chirs Kroner & Hart Marlow

The edge between land and water is crumbled , allowing for the mutual permeability and exchange of qualities and new set of intractable symbiotic relationship ,which never existed in the previous scenarios. The Surface reacts to underlaying intense scenarios on the site . The different phases of the changing surfaces enabled me to identify similar and dissimilar qualities of spaces seen In , Along and Through the surface. These are few of the identified qualities: zones of accumulation , convergence and intermittent. Zones of exposure ,display and agility, zones of recreation and traverse, zones of interlock etc.

EXPERIMENTAL HOUSING PROTOTYPE : HYBRID LIVING IN MUMBAI Thesis Guide: Ar. Nemish Shah The study was aimed at understanding the evolution and change in configuration of housing typologies in Mumbai. The various international and national case studies of mass group housing revealed the various possibilities of liveable spaces under their own unique context. The design for a mixed density housing catering to the working class population was proposed based on the inferences of these analytical case studies and study of living and site conditions of people residing in Mumbai. The proposal intended to create a comfortable living module of public housing through the collection of people’s aspirations and the understanding of evolution of housing in the city.

LEAFING :HEALTHY AND NATURAL HOUSING CONCEPT Studio Critic : Juerg Grunder , Chitra K. Vishwanath. The design methodology was to analyse a site and develop a housing typology which responds to the cultural, economical and social context of the site and at the same time, addressing issues of safety, sustainability and necessities like power, water and sanitation, while using appropriate building material. Our first impression of the given site was the presence of trees. Hence the notion of something which springs from the ground and grows organically, spirally, for the form of the structure. Hence a climber like spiral was our first sketch. By slicing the solid with an oblique plane, there is an effort to give a dynamism to the form. The subtraction of volumes in every floor highlights the central core and facilitates to have a good air circulation. The last step has been adding a slab with a foliage -like form every two floors. That slab will be used, according to our concept as a private terrace, for agricultural purposes, and as a relaxation area.

ENVELOP | Wall house,Raipur. Design team :SBP Architects and planners

The Design idea was concieved after the client’s requirement for a unique weekend home, which is fluid in planning and merges with the earthscape. The spaces were designed using the idea of a singular wall entity that unfolds on the landscape to create spaces and also merge with the earth and blurring the outside- inside boundary.
