Extensions of Art & Culture The library expands the scope of the SOMA art district and pulls closer the distance between people, art, culture and nature.
The site of the new AAU library is on the corner Howard St and Second St. It connects the culture and art from SOMA to the New Transbay Transit Terminal and, through its bridges, views of the San Francisco Bay.
Academy of Art University as a representative of Art education is the only famous Art University located in the SOMA Arts district of San Francisco. The diversity of art majors attracts many students of different nationalities. These students bring different cultures from their countries and use different techniques to create their works of art here. The new AAU library located at the core area of SOMA will provide these students with a new art exchange and exhibition space. The new AAU library located at the core area of SOMA will provide these students with a new art exchange and exhibition space.
Artistic Architecture We can see many different colors， patterns， eyes， rhythm， texture， and people from other countries with traditional cloths. All this information represents the concept of Artistic.
In simple terms， art and color， pattern，visual rhythm， and culture are inseparable.

Collection - Cellular design The honeycomb and its cellular structure is going to be used to design the shape, the space, and the circulation of the AAU school library. Think about the people who find knowledge, make a books, and then collect them into libraries. I'm proposing the the same thing; the library and honeycomb are both places for collection.
With the concept of Cellular design, I want express a feeling of collection. As we know, bees find flowers to make honey and then collect the honey into the honeycomb. This concept is similar to the concept of the library. Think about the people who find knowledge, make a books, and then collect them into libraries. With the concept of Cellular design, I want express a feeling of collection.
Lebbeus Woods “Break the Quiet� The form of the building will also break the traditional building structure of 631 Howard St. and 79 New Montgomery St. This "breaking" will bring a strong visual impact to people in the street.
In the past, libraries always provided people a quiet reading space. In my opinion, the future library will break this kind of quiet.
The future library will provide more high-tech experiences for people. People will no longer be limited to the quiet reading space. There will be more communication space, entertainment experience space, digital study space, listening and enjoyment space. These spaces will mix together. They will be inseparable from experiences of the visual, audio and the sense of touch. It will break the pattern of the traditional and the quiet. The concept of The break is from the Architect Lebbeus Woods. Lebbeus Woods wants to break the pattern of mainstream and traditional of buildings. In his opinion, He thought traditional buildings lack imagination and are not beautiful. He wants break this kind of pattern and find new building models.
These spaces will mix together. They will be inseparable from experiences of the visual, audio and the sense of touch.
A Scroll of knowledge & information The concept of the scroll will be used for the building faรงade and can also be used for the indoor space and circulation. The scroll paper is also used for drawing and painting. The paper and the scroll paper are the knowledge and the art. The concept of the scroll will represent the knowledge and art combining together.

We can imaging how people got information from ancient times to the present, from characters to film， from black & white to color, or from static form to movement. This process expresses the development of modern science and technology. People will not stop here and just get information from characters or books. Now， people can get more information from the new technologies， like Visual and Audio. So I will make the scroll façade b e co me a b i g LE D display. It can be used to show the newest art information and students project etc.
Outside, as people walk on the street, they can get the newest information immediately from the library
Future of the Library In today's era of rapid development of informationďźŒ how people get knowledge is no longer limited to books, it can also be through computers, Internet search, etc. When people can get information on the Internet at home, why do people have to go to the library? What are the different things that attract people to go to the libraryďź&#x; This is the direction of my research.
People like to share their ideas through talking with other people, expanding their own knowledge and information through these exchanges.
1.Digital experience The library as project can give people an extraordinary and wonderful experience, an experience they cannot get at home but only in the library. People can buy the computer and search at home, but the wonderful experience of my library cannot be bought and experienced at home. They have to go to the library. 2. Interpersonal communication Communication and exchange is another way for people to get knowledge and information. People like to share their ideas through talking with other people, expanding their own knowledge and information through these exchanges. So the future library will need more emphasis on communication. Providing more communication spaces and information exchange spaces in the library is a trend for the future library. 3. Treasure house of digital information and the copyright The past library is a warehouse of books. The library attracts readers by buying new books. In today s digital age, most of information resources can be acquired from Internet. The future library is charged with the task of copyright protection. The library can buy and protect the copyright of the latest version of digital books and resources, these resources are housed only in the library not outside the library.
Connection - Bridge - Welcome This bridge is a gateway of welcome to guide people toward the Library, a temple of art and knowledge. Bridges and ramps through the space of the library also includes the runway for fashion design. Secondly, as people walk on the bridge they can see the ocean from west howard St. and that San Francisco is surrounded by water
The new library of AAU will be designed with two bridges. One of the bridges will connect to the main AAU administration building, on New Montgomery St. Another bridge will connect to the New Transbay Building, the biggest transport hub in San Francisco. A private bridge for school use will be connected from the rooftop of the new library building to the sixth floor of the AAU administration building. Another bridge which is connected to the new Transbay terminal will be used by the public who go to art galleries and other locations around SOMA. When people see the different kinds of bridges from the bridge which is connected between transbay and library, they can feel and experience the bridge with a good visual landscape. Also they can experience the bridge as they go in to the library.
This bridge is a gateway of welcome to guide people toward the Library, a temple of art and knowledge.
Art storage systems In this Art Storage, students can borrow the different tools of any of different disciplines of the school they may want. tools are all free to be checked out by all AAU students and teachers. This storage will become the most comprehensive and respected art tools storage for a school.
Students also can have access to teachers from different professional fields if they have any questions and desire collaboration with other departments.

This Art storage system will combine all different majors of AAU . All students can learn and communicate with different departments and their teachers and students. Also they can learn how to use tools from different artistic professions.
We will provide a full range of rental platforms including art and design tools rentals, teaching assist rentalsďźŒ audio visual rentals etc.
Digital Technology Many different kinds of new digital technology will be shown to people here. The holographic 3D display will bring people to the 3D world. People will come to the library not to just read a book; they can get more information from the experience space of digital technology. The new digital technology will bring people from the real world to the virtual world.
When people get in the library, they can experience an advanced automatic system. When they borrow books or have any kinds of questions, they can talk to voice recognition equipment. The voice recognition equipment will answer any questions they have. The reading and study area will provide the digital touch table. Students can get information and watch at each desk. At the experience center of the library, people can communicate, learn and get knowledge. The holographic 3D printer will show the making process of the 3D model. The big 360 light field display will show video of student works, include movie animation and fashion show.

Garden spaces and Net-Zero Buildings The idea of the NetZero library will use green materials and also the building will generate more energy by itself than it uses from what it creates in its own renewable sources.
The AAU library will become the best representative of the Net-Zero building in San Francisco.
First of all, the building will use the sea water power. The water power machine will be placed in the ocean and connect to the building. The building will- through the flow of seawater - get its electricity. SecondaryďźŒthe wall of the building will use the new technology of solar power temperature control materials. The materials will get power from daylight and heat the building at nighttime. Thirdly, Finally, the building will have a green roof. Green roofs have become increasingly popular in helping urban areas become greener. It can be a great source of sound insulation to reduce the noise of city traffic; also it can increase the air quality and reduce the urban heat island effect.
the building is the first one that will use seawater for its toilets in San Francisco. It can save much energy. It will be the model of water conservation in the city.
