USU KWALA BEKALA Category Year

Location Area

Final Project - Department of Architecture, Universitas Sumatera Utara 2018 Kwala Bekala, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia 16.703 m2

The number increase of USU students has allowed the campus to expand its area in Kwala Bekala for 300 hectares. Within this area, there is a Science Techno Park (STP) area which is an integrated area that combines the world of industry, universities, research and training centers, entrepreneurship, central and local government in a location that allows the flow of information and technology more efficiently and quickly. The library is one of the buildings in the area that functions as a supporter of academic and research activities.

The chosen mass form is following the formation of a site to support the concept of building as a gate. Extensive land is expected to form facades in this area to create the streetscape. After that, by the green architecture concept, the middle part of the building layout on the left is removed to serve as the inner court for the green space so that the masses are not massive. Then the mass is raised to make it into three levels building. Only for the eastern building, the third level of mass is rather inclined towards the lake to maximize the view of the lake. Lastly, give a link between the two masses with sky-bridge

Proposal

2022 Medan, Indonesia 150 m2

Roti Romi Setia Budi is a bakery based in Medan. Because they sell old-style bread, therefore the old school concept is applied to all Roti Romi branches. In addition to the old school concept, the ‘homey’ concept is also applied to this brach so that the facade wall is formed with a triangle shape at the top, like the general shape of a roof in Indonesian houses. The white color that dominates the exterior also adds a homey impression. Roster wall with circular center is chosen as a counterweight to the overall shape of the facade.

Beside white; cream colors, brick accents, and brown accents are also applied on the interior design to add an old school impression, as well as the selection of furniture. The first floor has bread stall, so this area is focused on semi-public concepts such as living room, while the second floor is intended for private areas such as a sitting area and dining room.
