Sedro-Woolley & Upper Skagit SEDRO-WOOLLEY is known as the "Gateway to the North Cascades" because it is located on the western edge of the majestic Cascade Mountain Range in northwest Washington State. It is situated north of Seattle, just south of Bellingham on Highway 20, along the banks of the Skagit River. It is home to the longest running 4th of July celebration in Washington State. The celebration includes Loggerodeo, an International invitation only, pole climbing & chain saw carving competition. Up to 20,000 visitors attend this event each year! Founders Day is celebrated each year in September and is another well attended event by the local community.
UPPER SKAGIT includes a number of small towns along Hwy 20 East from Sedro-Woolley. You'll pass through Lyman, Hamilton, Concrete, Rockport and Marblemount. There is much history documented in this area and worth the research for history buffs. State Route 20 is the northernmost route across the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington and is commonly referred to as the North Cascades Highway. This Scenic Byway offers travelers a wide array of beautiful vistas and is part of the Cascade Loop, a 400 mile driving tour through the Cascades.
The Skagit Eagle Festival is a month long celebration during eagle-watching season. Activities take place in Concrete, Rockport and Marblemount every full weekend in January.
