www.MichelleFoggin.com Having the right real estate agent means having an agent who is committed to helping you buy or sell your home with the highest level of expertise in your local market. This means also to help you in understanding each step of the buying or selling process. This commitment level has helped me build a remarkable track record of delivering results. • Free Home Evaluations • Professional Home Staging • Professional Photography • Top Notch Customer Service

Accredited Buyer's Agent Relocation Specialist Military Relocation Specialist Certified Residential Specialist

Why choose me as your Relocation Specialist? Over the past 25 years, I have moved ten times, which makes me somewhat of an expert on the subject. My husband and I moved to Anacortes twelve years ago from Jacksonville, Florida and we fell in love with the town. We are both from Montana originally and wanted to get back in the Northwest. My husband retired from the Navy and we decided to build a house and plant our roots here. Since we have three school age children, the excellent reputation of the Anacortes School District is one of the main reasons that brought us to Anacortes. Our family has thoroughly enjoyed exploring Fidalgo Island and all it has to offer. We love hiking and mountain biking in the endless Anacortes Forest Land trail system, camping at Washington Park, and playing on the beach at Bowman Bay. There are many other things to do in Anacortes…. kayaking, boating, fishing, golfing, and sightseeing. Once you have decided the area where you want to live, the process of buying a home begins. As an experienced exclusive buyer’s agent specializing in Skagit, Whatcom, and Island counties, I have been selling properties since 2004.

My philosophy for working with buyers is simple: Buyers want an easy, no hassle way of finding the home they want, in an area in which they won’t regret buying, for a price they won’t regret paying. They want a Realtor whom they will be comfortable referring to their family and friends, and whom they will call for all their future real estate needs. These are all things I provide. My customers become my friends. I am a professional listener. I do not convince you of what you do not want. I am fair, ethical, and very detail-oriented. My goal is to find you the best home available to meet your needs and desires whether it is located in Skagit, Whatcom, or Island County. Whether you are an experienced investor or a first time buyer, I can help you in finding the property of your dreams. www.MichelleFoggin.com

Ready to Buy or Sell?

Top 5 Reasons You Need a Realtor, rather than an iBuyer

1

REALTORS HAVE MARKET KNOW-HOW · Local Agents have a much better understanding of your Local Market and how it works.

2 3 4

REALTORS WILL NEGOTIATE THE DETAILS · Selling your house through an agent is the best way to ensure you keep the equity your home has earned.

5

YOU WILL BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH A MARKET EXPERT · Working with a Realtor means you’re connected with a market expert for the next time you need to buy or sell.

iBUYER PREMIUMS ARE ALMOST DOUBLE THAT OF A REALTOR’S COMMISSION REALTORS WILL MARKET YOUR HOME TO POTENTIAL BUYERS TO GIVE YOU TOP DOLLAR · iBuyers are buying your home site unseen for a price that’s likely less than what your property is worth.

GIFT WRAPPING & SHIPPING TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS

(BPT) - It’s that time of year again - when gift-givers everywhere struggle to get presents wrapped and shipped ahead of the holidays. If you are one of the many who need tips, inspiration or a little nudge, why not turn to the experts for great ideas this year?

Wrap Artistically

Up your gift-wrapping game to help make your presents stand out among the heap of boxes under the tree. Alton DuLaney, Scotch Brand’s Most Gifted Wrapper Contest winner and the World’s Most Famous Gift Wrap Artist, offers his top tips for wrapping like a pro and making the outside of the present as special as the inside. * Gather all your supplies. Start by gathering all your supplies and laying them out on a flat spacious area to do all your wrapping. The quality of the finished product depends on the quality of the products used. I always opt for the Scotch GiftWrap Tape as my go-to holiday tape. It has a satin finish that disappears flawlessly on most wrapping papers for a smooth, finished look. * Be resourceful. Explore unconventional paper like leftover wallpaper from your latest home improvement or DIY project. Shop your garden for embellishments like sprigs of rosemary or even pinecones from your backyard. It is the simplest touches that go a long way! * Put the ‘present’ in ‘presentation.’ Tease a little excitement for what is inside and really play up the presentation. Gifting a men’s shirt? Add a tie in lieu of a ribbon. Giving jewelry? Bedazzle the wrapping paper with rhinestones. * Get crafty. Decorate craft paper or paper grocery bags turned inside out with stamps, paint, drawings or stickers to make your own one-of-akind gift wrap. This is a great creative project for kids!

Ship Efficiently

This holiday season, you may be relying on shipping to get your gifts to loved ones far and wide. Now more than ever, it’s important to streamline your packaging and shipping efforts. Rachel Rosenthal, founder of the professional organizing firm Rachel and Company, draws from her 13 years of experience helping more than 3,000 clients to offer tips for staying on top of your gifting process this year: * Streamline with a shipping station. Finding a home for all your supplies is key to feeling organized ahead of the holiday madness. I recently transformed a former crafting cart into an at-home shipping station. The first supply I stocked my cart with is the Scotch Flex & Seal Shipping Roll. It’s an all-in-one shipping solution that saves up to 50% on time, supplies and space compared to boxes. All you need is the roll and a pair of scissors so your cart won’t get cluttered. For a great shipping station cart,

GiftWrap.indd 1

look for one that has a flat surface on top where you can package up your items. * Skip the line. Let’s be real, no one likes spending more time at the post office than they have to. Package and label your items ahead of time so you can simply drop and go. After purchasing all my holiday gifts, I designate time to printing all of my shipping labels and sticking them to my packages. That way, I can simply drop them off and be on my way! * Don’t delay. Don’t let packages pile up around the house. We all know that one relative who sends gifts after the holidays. Designate an area near your front door so you’ll remember to ship them out when you leave the house to run other errands - and make sure to add final shipping dates to your digital calendar so you’ll remember your deadlines! With a little creativity, planning and organization this year - along with the right tools for the job - you can make gift-giving easier and more beautiful than ever.

5 Ways to Elevate your Holidays this Year

(BPT) - The holidays are a wonderful opportunity to create magical experiences with friends and family. However you celebrate the holidays this year, why not find new ways to add special touches to make them extraordinary? For small household gatherings or virtual celebrations, bringing unique decorations and flavors together with a festive flair can make this year even more memorable.

1. Streamline your decor You’ve probably heard the expression “less is more.” This approach helps designers make striking statements in a space, using a simplified color palette or focusing on a single visual feature to make any room stand out. For your holiday decor, apply this approach by selecting one or two colors, or a single visual theme, to make your living space even more elegant and beautiful this year. For example, you could choose only silver and blue - or red and gold - decorations to trim the tree, or display only snowflake or reindeer themed decorations. Or you could find one single visual focus for each room for a dramatic visual statement, whether it’s a gorgeous holly and pine centerpiece on your table or a wreath made from greenery and crimson ribbons for the wall. You’ll be amazed at how lovely and refined your rooms can look when you decorate with a more thoughtful focus.

2. Toast with the ones you love Choose a delightful, celebratory sparkling wine to grace your holiday dinner table and New Year’s evening. For example, Nino Franco Rustico Prosecco is the perfect choice for any occasion, with its light effervescence and refreshing fruitiness. This versatile, delicious prosecco pairs well with foods from spicy chicken wings on game day to roast turkey for your formal dinner. Need more gift ideas? Send out a couple of bottles of sparkling wine via Wine.com/NinoFranco to friends and family ahead of the holidays. That way, you’ll be able to toast together during your virtual gatherings.

3. Take your appetizers up a notch Try this scrumptious and easy-to-prepare recipe from Katie Workman at TheMom100: Prosciutto-Wrapped Shrimp with Smoked Paprika These are lavish-looking appetizers suitable for any party or get-together with your family.

Prosciutto-Wrapped Shrimp with Smoked Paprika Prep time 15 minutes; Cook time 6 minutes; Total time 21 minutes. Serves 6.

Ingredients 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil 1 and 1/2 teaspoons smoked paprika 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 pound jumbo shrimp (16/20 pound), shelled and deveined with tails left on 4 ounces very thinly sliced prosciutto sliced lengthwise into 1/2-inch strips

Instructions Preheat broiler and place cooking rack about 4 inches below heat source. Spray rimmed baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray, or line with parchment paper. In a small bowl, combine olive oil, paprika, and pepper. Add shrimp and toss until coated with the seasoned olive oil. Wrap each shrimp with a strip of prosciutto, spiraling it up the shrimp until the shrimp is encased. Place shrimp on the prepared baking sheet. Broil for 3 minutes until the tops are crispy, then turn and broil for another 3 minutes until the other side is browned. Serve with little napkins, with the crispier side up.

4. Gift with grace If you have the time and talent, make something special for the ones you love. Whether a handcrafted toy, knitted scarf or jar of homemade treats, something you took the time to make means more than anything you could buy. Not too crafty? A beautiful handwritten card sharing memories or expressing good wishes for your loved ones can make a real impact.

Holidays2020.indd 1

5. Create new traditions and revisit old ones Explore new ways to celebrate the season. Ask your family about traditions that are meaningful to them, and find ways to include them in your holidays this year. Recall the best memories from your childhood holidays and see how you can share them with your family. Then imagine new traditions. How about dressing up for family dinner, caroling from your car - or making little gift bags to leave on your neighbors’ front doors? What new traditions can you create together? Use these ideas for inspiration, then find your own ways to make this year’s celebrations unique and festive. What makes the biggest impression is focusing on what means the most to you - friends and family.

DIY Projects to Upgrade Outdoor Living Spaces (BPT) - The ever-growing popularity of outdoor living combined with more time spent at home is causing many of us to tackle exterior home improvement projects. If you don’t mind getting your hands a bit dirty, here are some DIY ideas for all skill levels to help inspire home spruceups that will enhance the beauty and enjoyment of your outdoor spaces. For more outdoor DIY inspiration, visit https://www.trex.com/deck-ideas. Customize Comfort Keep your outdoor furniture on-trend by reupholstering cushions and pillows with weatherproof fabrics. Changing up the material is an easy way to inject more color and pattern into your outdoor space.

Resurface Your Deck If you are comfortable using a hammer, power saw and drill, you can replace rotting, splintering wooden deck boards with high-performance composite boards like Trex®. Unlike wood, low-maintenance composite decking is incredibly durable and requires no sanding, staining or painting - ever. Put up a Pergola Providing versatility and limitless design possibilities, pergolas remain popular backyard additions. Offering a variety of styles, sizes and colors to suit your tastes, pergolas can come in customizable kits that are easy to assemble. Get Your Game On Kids are not the only ones who enjoy playing outside! Outdoor play spaces for all ages are on the rise, including everything from swimming pools to sandboxes. Boost outdoor fun this fall by building your own yard games like lawn checkers, horseshoes or cornhole.

Integrate Lattice For a clever design trick that adds style and functionality, integrate lattice panels to conceal under-deck storage, add a decorative touch to a gazebo, or serve as wainscoting or deck skirting. Enhance Curb Appeal A dramatic way to freshen up your entryway is to paint the front door. Grays are a trendy neutral hue, or go bold with red or turquoise. Switch out light fixtures or window shutters for sophisticated yet eye-catching upgrades. Go Green Planters are wonderful for decorating, breaking up an expansive patio and adding color. For a thrifty, yet attractive, DIY planter that will last, use composite deck boards. Plus, composite is made from recycled materials, making it an eco-friendly choice. Light It Up Extend your time outside long after sundown by installing lighting to illuminate your outdoor space. Easily added to a new or existing deck, TrexÂŽ Deck Lighting is energy efficient, durable and dimmable for enhanced safety and ambiance.

(BPT) - Chances are, you’ve been through it - when severe weather hits, there’s nearby construction or just out of the blue, your power suddenly goes out. And you don’t know how long it will last - minutes, hours or days. It’s not just an inconvenience for your family, especially since everyone is spending more time working and schooling from home these days, but it can actually be unsafe. You may need to heat or cool your home so it’s livable, someone in your family may rely on home medical equipment, and you want your refrigerated food to be safe to eat.

Power outages have been increasing due to extreme weather events, plus more people staying home sometimes causing an overload in energy demands. Being able to cope with unexpected power outages is crucial to your family’s comfort, well-being and safety. How to be ready for power outages

You may think you’re ready for an outage because you’ve got plenty of flashlights and batteries. Maybe you even have a portable charger for your phone and electronic gadgets. But think about all the items powered by electricity in your home. Even if you have a gas stove, you need electricity to safely ignite it. You rely on your modem to provide internet and even phone connectivity. And the longer the outage lasts, the more you’ve got to worry about. What your family really needs is safe, reliable backup power. Ch sing a generator for your home

When extreme weather events hit, you don’t want to be one of the many people running to the home improvement store to try to snag the last generator on the shelf. The truth is, you actually have two choices when it comes to generators - a portable model or an automatic standby generator. Either one can help you during an outage, so it’s a good idea to know the difference between the two. Portable generators

How to be ready for the next

power outage Companies like Kohler offer portable generators in a variety of sizes to meet your power demands. Most portable units run on gasoline, so be sure to keep extra fuel on hand. Automatic standby generators

For a more permanent solution, you could choose to have an automatic standby generator permanently installed outside your home, similar to a central air conditioning unit. These generators can power everything in your home, and they run on propane or natural gas supplied from your home, with no refueling necessary. One big advantage of an automatic standby generator is that you do not need to be present to start up and operate the system. When the power goes out, an automatic transfer switch shifts power from the main utility to your generator within seconds - whether you’re home or away. A Kohler Home Generator delivers high-quality power to your home that won’t harm your sophisticated electronics. Larger units can supply enough power to keep your critical hard-wired systems running, including your HVAC, sump pumps, security systems and large appliances. These generators run quietly and come in a corrosionresistant housing which prevents rusting. You can also use your smartphone or tablet for remote monitoring of the system. Want to learn more about protecting your home from the next power outage? Visit KohlerPower.com.

Having a portable generator handy gives you an easyto-use, low-cost option which offers you some peace of mind in case of a temporary outage. One benefit to portable generators is that they can be used for a variety of outdoor activities like camping and tailgating. Portable generators supply enough power for a handful of individual products or systems in your home, like your refrigerator or lights. They are manually operated, which means you need to be home to get them started and keep them fueled throughout the power outage. In addition, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, you need to be sure your portable generator is placed at least 20 feet away from your home outdoors, and not inside a garage or screened-in porch. Having a carbon monoxide detector in your home is a highly recommended safeguard. When using a portable generator, make sure all the systems and appliances you’re backing up from your home are plugged in with properly rated extension cords that run from your home outdoors to the portable generator.

5 QUICK TIPS FOR IMPROVING THE AIRFLOW IN YOUR HOME (BPT) - With COVID-19 cases up in most parts of the country families are weighing the pros and cons of gathering. Experts encourage maintaining a steady flow of fresh, quality air within your home to help slow the transmission of coronavirus. Proper air circulation is crucial in any home, because airflow regulates temperature and creates a more pleasant and safe breathing environment. By contrast, poor air circulation can actually endanger your health. In fact, the levels of indoor air pollutants are often two to five times higher than outdoor levels, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Here’s how to improve the airflow in your home. 1 OPEN YOUR WINDOWS Only 57% percent of homeowners open their windows in the winter, according to a study conducted by Pella Windows and Doors. However, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state health departments agree - opening your windows is a simple way to help to reduce the spread of coronavirus. “Opening windows is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to encourage air flow and limit the spread of germs, and potentially COVID-19, within your home,” said Nicolle Picray, brand communications and public relations manager at Pella Windows & Doors. The company says the simple act of opening windows for 15-20 minutes a day, even in the winter months, can not only help to slow the transmission of COVID-19, but it can deliver a powerful lift to physical and mental health, as well as help clear homes of indoor pollutants and odors.

ImproveAirflow.indd 1

2 TURN ON CEILING FANS Whenever possible, keep fresh air circulating in your home. Turning on ceiling fans can keep air moving, and combined with opening windows, can help cross-ventilation. 3 CHECK YOUR AIR FILTER A dirty air filter will reduce clean airflow from your home’s heating and cooling system. This makes your home less comfortable, raises your energy bills and can lead to costly heating and air conditioning repairs. 4 ADD HOUSEPLANTS Put that green thumb to work. The benefits of adding houseplants to your home decor go far beyond aesthetics. Houseplants are natural air filters that purify your home. And, research shows that greenery reduces stress and creates a more tranquil and relaxed environment. 5 REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE Create a direct pathway through and around the rooms of your home, especially gathering spaces like the dining room. Make sure there isn’t anything blocking air flow from the windows or covering any of the vents on your floors, walls or ceilings. By making simple adjustments you can improve the air circulation and ventilation in your home, ensuring you - and your guests - breathe clean air.

End 2020 on a High Note with these Holiday Hacks! (BPT) - While 2020 has been a rollercoaster of emotions for all of us, this year’s holiday season doesn’t have to be. These hacks will help you navigate the new norm this holiday shopping season - and make sure 2020 ends on a stress-free note. Channel your inner Clark Griswold. Go all out with holiday decorating and make your home extra festive this year since everyone will be spending more time at home this holiday season. Missing family members who can’t visit this year? Incorporate their photos into your holiday decorations to invoke family memories and to feel closer during this time when so many of us are spending the holidays apart. Cheery decor can improve your entire vibe - so whether you deck the halls with extra string lights in every room or spice up your bar cart with festive beverages, bring the holiday festivities into your own space and embrace the at-home life. Shop smarter and protect your packages with ingarage delivery. If you’re planning to do most of your holiday shopping online this year like the majority of Americans, it’s even more important than ever to be prepared with a secure and contactless delivery solution like Key by Amazon In-Garage Delivery. Amazon recently expanded the service to millions more Prime members in more than 4,000 cities across the United States. Ensure your gifts, decorations and everything else you need to have a safe and happy celebration are protected against damage, theft and weather. All you need is a myQ

HolidayHacks2020.indd 1

smart garage door opener linked to Key by Amazon app to have packages delivered directly into your garage. myQ technology can be added to all leading brands of garage door openers in minutes via a myQ Smart Garage Hub, which practically pays for itself thanks to a special $30 Amazon credit after your first in-garage delivery with promo code KEY30 (Terms and conditions apply. Find them at amazon.com/keypromo to learn more.). Start a new family tradition. With the holidays looking a bit different this year, our annual traditions may also have a new feel. Since life is slowed down and everyone is snuggled in at home, consider making the most of the situation and putting some extra thought into starting a new family tradition. Try ordering matching holiday jammies, experimenting with new delicious family recipes (perhaps spark some friendly competition with a bakeoff over Zoom?) or maybe even try building an ice-skating rink on your lawn. 2020 has been an unforgettable year, so add some happy memories to the mix. If you’re entertaining and need extra space to spread out, consider your garage. Your garage is an extension of your home and can be a great place this year to remain socially distant. If you’re entertaining and need extra space to spread out, why not utilize your garage? The indoor/outdoor space lets in fresh air and creates additional room for hosting loved ones over the holiday season. Add space heaters, twinkling lights, some festive music and pour the hot cocoa!

4 WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR FINANCES AND INVESTMENTS IN 2021 (BPT) - Finances are consistently a top concern for many Americans, with "saving money" a top-10 most common New Year's resolution. This year, Americans are more concerned than ever before due to the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic. USE Credit Union reported that more than 75% of non-transactional calls received since the start of the pandemic were from members concerned about their financial future, citing economic hardship as the primary reason for concern. The economy and job market remain in a state of constant flux, which is causing many families to worry about their ability to pay an unexpected bill, continue to pay off student loans, mortgages or credit card debt, or save money for the future. "Saving money is more than just putting spare change into a coffee can, or simply ordering takeout less often," said Jeff Schroeder, vice president and chief product officer at Mercury Insurance. "Sure, those things can add up over time, but people may find that their greatest savings can come from taking a look at the necessary expenses they pay for every month, such as insurance." Schroeder recommends these four tips to help protect your finances in the coming year: 1) Check your auto insurance coverages. There's no reason to pay for more coverage than you need, but being underinsured can leave you exposed. "The cost of repairs after a collision has grown in recent years, both as a result of more crossovers and SUVs on the road, and more technologically advanced vehicles," said Schroeder. "Beyond paying for more expensive repairs if your insurance doesn't cover it, if you're underinsured, you may also be responsible for paying out of pocket for medical bills, which could potentially devastate savings for a down payment on a house, your child's college tuition or a future vacation. It's vitally important to make sure you have the right amount of auto insurance coverage to protect against unforeseen events." 2) Know what your homeowners insurance covers. First and foremost, be sure to read your homeowners insurance policy so you're clear about what it does and doesn't cover. It's a good idea to check in with your insurance agent each year to ensure you have adequate

Invest2021.indd 1

coverage, especially if you've made renovations, own collectible or valuable items, or live in an area that's prone to flooding or earthquakes, as standard homeowners insurance policies typically don't cover these situations. Also, maintain a home inventory to make sure to have an accurate record of your belongings and property. 3) Be aware of potential gaps in coverage. A standard homeowners insurance policy often doesn't cover mechanical failures to your home's appliances, HVAC or other essential systems, nor does it cover a break to service lines on your property that supply your home with electricity, gas or sewer functions. In either of these scenarios, this means you would be responsible for writing a big check to a repair company or having to purchase a pricy replacement. However, adding home systems protection and service line protection endorsements can help provide coverage for costly repairs and replacements, saving money and your peace of mind. Pennies spent now can save you thousands of dollars later. 4) Regularly shop for the best coverage and price. Insurance prices can vary significantly from company to company, so it's a good idea to take a few minutes to see if you're getting a good deal. Shop around at least once a year - making sure to look for the exact same coverage limits - to see if you can find a more affordable rate. "Often, regional insurers like Mercury Insurance are more attuned to their policyholders' needs and can offer better rates," Schroeder added. "For example, the California Department of Insurance found that Mercury auto insurance policyholders save an average of $670, which can go a long way in feeling more secure in your savings." The most effective way to make sure your finances are minimally impacted by insurance costs in 2021 is to speak to an independent insurance agent. They can help make sure you have the proper amount and type of coverage to keep yourself, your family and property protected.
