OMC Core Team Teri U. Guidi, MBA, FAAMA Teri Guidi is the President and CEO of Oncology Management Consulting Group. With more than 25 years of experience in oncology management, Ms. Guidi is expert in the areas of strategic planning, reimbursement, program development, and market assessment. She has worked with health networks, hospitals, private practices, and the pharmaceutical industry. Recent projects have included strategic and business planning, joint venture development, hospital/physician alignment, educational programs, and program assessments. She has held positions at institutions ranging from NCI-designated Cancer Centers to large teaching hospitals in integrated health systems to small community hospitals. She has served as Executive Director and System Vice President of cancer service lines, and as Vice President of a health system-owned medical oncology practice. Ms. Guidi’s experience spans all areas of outpatient oncology including infusion services, radiation oncology, clinical trials, and tumor registry. Among her major areas of interest are financial analysis and profitability reporting. Ms. Guidi is a frequent speaker at national and regional professional conferences, with numerous publications on a wide variety of oncologyrelated topics. She serves on the Editorial Boards of Oncology Issues and Hematology Oncology News and Issues (HONI), on several professional society committees, and served two terms on the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Ms. Guidi received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College in 1995 and earned Fellowship in the American Academy of Medical Administrators in 1999.


Cheryl Gelder-Kogan, MHSA As a Senior Consultant with the Oncology Management Consulting Group, Cheryl Gelder-Kogan brings over 25 years of experience in health care management. She has worked with hospitals, physician organizations, public health departments and community based non-profit organizations. Ms. Gelder-Kogan focuses her attention on operational issues, strategic and business planning, development and implementation of customer service programs, mentoring administrative staff and is the primary consultant for the majority of OMC Group’s interim management engagements. She has held key administrative positions at major academic medical centers and county health departments. Ms. Gelder-Kogan’s experience includes all areas of oncology including operation of outpatient infusion services, medical and surgical physician operations, radiation oncology, tumor registry, clinical trials and strategic planning and implementation. Ms. Gelder-Kogan is a member of the Medical Group Management Association, the American Public Health Association and the Association of Community Cancer Centers. She received her Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan.


James C. Chingos, MD, FACP, CPE James Chingos, OMC Group’s Senior Associate for Physician Services, trained at Albany Medical College, Tufts New England Medical Center Hospital, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Chingos enjoys decades of practice experience as well as over 15 years of experience as a health system medical director charged with developing a comprehensive community cancer center. His combination of clinical practice experience and health system leadership includes extensive involvement in strategic planning, hospital and office financial issues, development of oncology programs, participation in clinical trials and management of physician/ hospital relationships. A Fellow in the American College of Physicians and a Certified Physician Executive, Dr. Chingos has been named among the country’s top oncologists by America’s Top Doctors for Cancer, and he has held Visiting Nurse Association medical directorships, and has played an active role in such professional activities as Alpha Omega Alpha, the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Physician Executives and the American Academy of Medical Administrators. He is a Cancer Liaison Program Physician for the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons and has served on State Public Advisory Councils. Jim has served as a Trustee, Executive Officer, and President of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC).


Theodore “Ted” E. Wolfe, III, MBA “Ted” Wolfe brings over 35 years of health administration experience to the Oncology Management Consulting Group. Mr. Wolfe is very active at the national level, serving on a number of committees and chairing educational programs at the Association of Community Cancer Centers and the Association of Cancer Executives. His experience includes multispecialty group practices, joint ventures, university-affiliated ambulatory centers, and health plan management. Mr. Wolfe has extensive experience in joint venture development and management, strategic planning, marketing, staffing, physician contracting, and financial management, and he enjoys particular expertise in radiation oncology. Mr. Wolfe has held positions as varied as International Vice President, and Executive Manager to Executive Director and CEO. He has worked at major health systems, free standing cancer centers, and hospital based centers including Harris Methodist Health System, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Baystate Medical Center, and Oncology Institute of Greater Lafayette. He presently serves on the Director’s Advisory Council for the Purdue Cancer Center at Purdue. Mr. Wolfe earned his Masters Degree in Business from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and served in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Navy for 21 years.


Elaine Kloos, RN, CNA-BC, MBA Elaine Kloos is a Senior Consultant with Oncology Management Consulting Group and brings over 25 years of experience in the healthcare field. Ms. Kloos also has over 15 years of expertise in Oncology Administration and Women’s Breast Health Services with specific areas of focus in clinical service line development, comprehensive breast care centers, strategic planning, facility design and project management. As a Registered Nurse, Ms. Kloos adds significant clinical expertise to the OMC Group and is very well versed in clinical operations, patient satisfaction, equipment selection, program development and the ACoS accreditation process. She has served as a Cancer Service Line Director and Vice President for numerous healthcare systems and community based hospitals. Ms. Kloos’ oncology experience includes inpatient medical oncology, inpatient GYN oncology, outpatient infusion, medical oncology physician practices, radiation oncology, comprehensive breast centers, high-risk breast cancer and highrisk colon cancer programs, clinical research, community outreach, cancer screenings and cancer registry. Among her major areas of interest are financial analysis of the oncology service line by tumor type and project development, facility design and construction. Ms. Kloos is board certified in Nursing Administration by the American Nurses’ Association. She is active in multiple national organizations including the Association of Cancer Executives, the Oncology Nursing Society and the Association of Community Cancer Centers. Ms. Kloos also serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Cancer Executives and is the Vendor Relations Committee Chairman. Ms. Kloos received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1991.


Joseph F. Woelkers, MA Joseph F. Woelkers, MA is a Senior Advisor with the Oncology Management Consulting Group and enjoys over 25 years of experience in the health care field with extensive expertise in oncology administration. Among his major areas of specialized knowledge are joint venture development, new facility design and operational implementation, strategic and business planning, and academic/community affiliations. Mr. Woelkers has worked at multiple university centers including University of Michigan Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins Oncology Center, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, and University of Florida Shands Cancer Center. Positions at these prestigious institutions included Chief Operating Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, and Deputy Director for Administration. His consulting experience includes engagements in the United States and abroad, with particular focus on developing and facilitating installation of organizational and business structures between multiple parties in a variety of affiliation models. Mr. Woelkers earned his master’s degree at Central Michigan University in 1981, and has served on the Boards of several national oncology leadership organizations including the Association of Cancer Executives, the Association of Community Cancer Centers, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. He is a frequent presenter on a wide variety of oncology-related topics including achieving NCI designation, strategic planning for health systems, and strategies for growing profitability. Mr. Woelkers presently holds an academic appointment as Research Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine.


Janet M. Fisher, MBA Janet Fisher is OMC Group’s Director of Outpatient Programs and Operations. She is an expert in medical oncology with extensive experience in private practices, hospital based programs and free standing centers. She is highly skilled in reimbursement issues including charge capture, coding and billing, and collections. Charge master and superbill development, payer appeals, and payer contract negotiation are also strong points. Ms. Fisher is knowledgeable in all areas of medical oncology and infusion center operations, from staffing and budgeting to policy and procedure development, and her experience also extends to physician compensation models and practice valuation. Ms. Fisher is a past president of the North Carolina Oncology Managers Society and has been active in such national organizations as the National Oncology Society Network, and the Medical Group Management Association’s Assembly of Hematology and Oncology Administrators. She has also served on industry speakers bureaus. Ms. Fisher received her Masters Degree in Business Administration and Finance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.


E. Strode Weaver, FACHE, MBA, MHSA Strode Weaver is a Senior Advisor with the Oncology Management Consulting Group. His experience spans over 30 years in a wide variety of settings including large tertiary hospitals and NCI-designated Cancer Centers, multi-hospital systems, leading academic research centers, and small rural hospitals. His positions have included serving as the Executive Director of academic and teaching hospital cancer centers, and as Administrator for Professional Services for a community hospital. Among Mr. Weaver’s greatest strengths is his demonstrated skill in communications and negotiations. His interests span multiple and diverse areas such as program development, physician practice management, human resources, payer contract negotiations, facilities construction coordination and planning, and he enjoys a strong history of developing and managing a broad span of cost-effective, high quality operations. Mr. Weaver received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, earned a Master of Business Administration from UCLA, and a Master of Health Services Administration from Arizona State University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and he has served in numerous leadership roles in professional societies, including as the President of the Association of Community Cancer Centers.


Brenda K. Gordon, RN, MS, OCN Brenda Gordon is a Senior Advisor to the Oncology Management Consulting Group. She brings to OMC a wealth of expertise in overseeing all oncology related services including radiation therapy, outpatient infusion and chemotherapy, oncology inpatient units, research, support services, and women’s diagnostics centers. She has held cancer program administrative positions at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, FL, Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, FL and Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland, FL. Ms. Gordon earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Florida and Master of Science in Nursing at the University of South Florida. She has served as a Board Member and as Treasurer for the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). She has presided over and/or presented at countless ACCC meetings, has authored a number of articles for Oncology Issues and has served as Chair of the Program Committee for several years. Ms. Gordon is also a long term board member and active volunteer with the American Cancer Society and is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society.


Michael W. Folk, MM, RT(T) Michael W. Folk is a Contributing Oncology Specialist with OMC Group. With over 20 years of clinical and administrative experience, Mr. Folk is an expert in both radiation oncology and women’s diagnostic imaging. His expertise includes department operations, staffing, technical chart documentation, and policy/procedure development. In addition, he is highly skilled in billing, coding and reimbursement for both technical and professional radiation and imaging services. His administrative experience includes capital equipment selection, negotiation, and installation; project/ facility management and design; pro-forma/ROI analysis, and strategic planning. Mr. Folk has held positions such as administrative director and chief radiation therapist in hospital and free-standing settings including university-based centers, community and teaching hospitals (for profit and non-profit). Mr. Folk earned his undergraduate degrees from Gwynedd Mercy College in Health Sciences and Radiation Oncology Therapy. He earned a Master of Management degree and Health Care Administration at Cambridge College. A member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers, (ACCC) and the American Society of Radiologic Technology, (ASRT), Mr. Folk is also active with the American Cancer Society, (ACS) and has served as an ambassador lobbying both congress and senators in Washington DC on behalf of the ACS.


Karla Puffenbarger, CPC Karla Puffenbarger is a Contributing Oncology Specialist with the Oncology Management Consulting Group. She received her certification as a professional coder from the American Academy of Professional Coders in 1991. She has over 15 years of experience managing office-based physician practices and has had responsibility for all aspects of practice operations including collections, charge entry and compliant billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, staffing and payroll, and clinical trials. Ms. Puffenbarger is an active member of the Ohio/West Virginia Hematology Oncology Society and she has served as an advisor to Ortho Biotech.
