Permits
Permits are required for residential, commercial, and industrial construction as well as to make alterations or additions to a property. The permit fee for residential new construction or plan review is $300 for a single family detached home and $150 per unit for a multi-family/ attached home. The fee for an addition to an existing residential structure is $60 for plan review and $60 per inspection needed dependent on the scope of the project. The plan review fee for commercial, industrial or offices (new, additions to existing buildings, and remodels) is $500 for up to 5,000 square feet, $1000 for 5,001-10,000 square feet and $1500 for over 10,000 square feet. Inspections are $60 per hour for required inspections, estimated at the plan review dependent on the scope of the project. Accessory structure building permit fees vary: a playhouse or shed to a property is $35, while the detached garage fee is $125. The fee for gazebos and decks is $100, fence permits are $75, while swimming pool fees begin at $50. Residential driveway permits are $75 while commercial parking lots are 5 cents per square foot. City Guidelines
WASTE COLLECTION: The City of Genoa contracts with Flood Brothers who provides a 96-gallon garbage toter and a 95-gallon recycling toter which is picked up once a week. Flood Brothers also provides yard waste and brush pickup April through MidDecember as well as special pickup electronic and household hazardous waste hauling. The current Flood Brothers rate is $21. INOPERATIVE MOTOR VEHICLES: Storing inoperable motor vehicles on public or private property within city limits is prohibited and considered a nuisance. NUISANCES: Dilapidated buildings, obstruction to public streets and sidewalks, impeding traffic, accumulation of debris, tall grass, still water and noxious fumes are considered nuisances. LITTERING: It is unlawful to litter on public streets, sidewalks, or alleys in the City. FIREWORKS: Setting off fireworks on public or private property is prohibited within City limits. CURFEW: Curfew for those under age 17 is 11 p.m. unless with a companion 21 years of age or older. PETS: The city does not require animal tags or registration. BURNING LEAVES: Burning leaves or yard waste is prohibited in the city. Please utilize the yard waste service provided by Flood Brothers.
