Village approves $2.5 million in road repairs

Glen Ellyn votes on vendor regulations By EVAN SHIELDS eshields@shawmedia.com GLEN ELLYN – The Glen Ellyn Village Board has approved new regulations for vendor carts downtown. Trustees voted 5-1 for the new regulations, which have been studied since spring 2014. Under the regulations, vendors will have to pay a $150 application fee for the cart and a $50 fee for a background check on any cart employee older than 18. Originally, the ordinance would have required vendors to get background checks for anyone working at a cart. Police Chief Phil Norton told the board that was added for safety reasons. “Any kind of business that might … attract kids, we want to make sure anyone working at that business doesn’t have a criminal record,” he said. Board members felt the ordinance would be a little strong if it included juveniles.

By EVAN SHIELDS eshields@shawmedia.com

“It feels a little heavy-handed,” said trustee Tim Elliott. Trustee Dean Clark shared that sentiment. “I’m not sure I can rationalize fingerprinting juveniles for that kind of position,” he said. The original ordinance would have increased the application fee to $250. It would have included the $150 for the application and two background checks, which cost $50 each. The board felt it would be better to reduce the fees if cart owners are using younger employees. The board also set a cap on the number of vendor carts that can be downtown at three. “We don’t want 20 carts downtown competing with the brick and mortar,” said Village Manager Mark Franz. Other stipulations under the ordinance include that carts must be located downtown, they can only sell food and drink and they cannot play music or sounds.

GLEN ELLYN – The village has approved spending $2.5 million on major road repairs on the north side of town. The Elm-Cottage-Geneva Connectors improvement project, which the village will begin later this year, will encompass 6,000 feet of streets and alleys. Bob Minix, village engineer, said the amount of work performed on each street depends on where it is. Elm Street and Euclid Avenue will be resurfaced. Cottage Avenue will be “much more intensive,” with a full reconstruction, including new curbs, gutters, driveways and a new asphalt pavement. Prairie Avenue will be partially reconstructed and partially resurfaced. Geneva Road will have sidewalk improvements performed. Minix said the county will reimburse the village for the Geneva Road work. Some of the project will include the installation of underground improvements such as new water mains, as well as other improvements. The project was originally bid in May 2014, but the village decided not to proceed based on other capital projects that would need village funds. Minix said all bidders increased their prices since that time. “We saw prices rise from a year ago, basically on the order of about 12 to 20 percent,” he said. The lowest bidder was A Lamp Concrete Contractors of Schaumburg with a $2.4 million bid. The village’s payment includes a 3 percent contingency. The

Glen Ellyn library hosts hands-on technology fair By EVAN SHIELDS eshields@shawmedia.com GLEN ELLYN – The Glen Ellyn Public Library was bustling with excitement Saturday during the second annual STEAM Fair. The library had interactive stations set up for kids. Each table tied into innovations with STEAM, a national school initiative that stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and math. In all, there were 18 stations at the STEAM Fair. The library also had three chemistry magic shows with assistance from the St. Mary’s College affiliate of the American Chemical Society. Library Director Dawn Bussey said the event has grown since last year because of the positive response it received. Last year, the event was open for four hours and had 13 exhibitors. Bussey said about 1,200 people attended. “Families come and they find so much to do, they stayed the entire time,” she said. In all, there were 920 people who turned out this weekend, including 300 in the first hour. “We think it was a very successful event,” she said. The activities included robot displays, physics demonstrations, arts and crafts and several other hands-on displays. Erin Kennedy, an environmental educator with SCARCE, said the hands-on activities can help kids remember what they’ve learned. “It’s fun and interesting, but you get to integrate vocabulary while they’re having fun,” Kennedy said. SCARCE also provided a bike hooked up to a generator to show how much energy it would take to power different light bulbs. “I thought it was a really great event … and this year, they stepped it up even more,” Kennedy said. Sonya Luksa with Aurora-based SciTech said kids could create small mouse masks with ears to demonstrate how things can fly in the wind. “Honestly it’s just a lot of good fun,” she said. The library had several booths of its own, including a motion-sensing game that allowed kids to jump around on the floor to interact with it. GLEN ELLYN – The Glenbard Township High School District 87 Board of Education has voted to approve improvement projects at the high schools not to exceed $2.3 million. The board voted at its Feb. 23 meeting on the work and to have Legat Architects and Pekron Consulting prepare design drawings and bid specifications for it. The improvements are scheduled to take place during summer break. The work being done is mostly annual preventative maintenance as identified through the master facility plan and annual building needs, according to board documents. The board set a limit of $2.3 million on the project, estimating its total at $2.2 million. The work at Glenbard South High School is antici-

pated to cost $81,587. Crews will replace four interior and exterior steel doors and hardware, replace vinyl composite tiles in four corridors and install vinyl composite tile flooring in two classrooms. At Glenbard West High School, a changing room with a sink will be constructed in a special education classroom. This is estimated to cost $25,000. Total work at Glenbard North High School will be a little more than $1 million. This is where the most work will be done. Crews will replace asphalt paving and curbs in the west parking lot, replace window and door frames on a stair tower, replace fire-rated metal doors on stair towers, renovate a pair of student restrooms, replace existing campus signs with an LED message sign and install new vinyl floors in the dance studio.

8 Q & A with the Hearing Doctor Too Old for Hearing Aids?

Q: My mom is 84 years old and is moving into a senior community. We know she is not always hearing well. She thinks she is too old to get hearing aids. Is there such a thing as being too old to start wearing Dr. Terri Lightbody hearing aids? (630) 580-5777

A: No, there never is a time when a person becomes too old to wear hearing aids. In fact, we know the aging process changes the auditory system. An aging adult has less ability to adapt to a challenging and noisy environment with or without hearing loss. Hearing loss causes greater diiculty for an older adult than on a twenty-something year old with the same hearing loss. he brain interprets what it hears. he speed in which the brain can process incoming auditory signals starts to decrease around the age of 40. As the processing slows, hearing and understanding speech becomes more diicult, even with normal hearing. When parts of speech become inaudible to the person with hearing loss, speech

understanding becomes more diicult. For instance, the phrase “tie your shoe” will sound like “_i_ your __oe” to a person with a typical high-frequency hearing loss. With the aid of visual cues, the person can see the speaker form the “sh” with their lips and can mentally insert “sh” at the beginning of “__oe” so that they interpret that word as “shoe”. However, we know that the beginning of a sentence or phrase is almost always missed, so the irst word is still “_i_”. As the speaker moves on to saying something else, the person with an aging auditory system and hearing loss cannot make sense of the phrase and struggles to catch up to the next words spoken. he point is, by correcting a hearing loss with use of hearing aids, a person can stay in the conversation and not zone out. he older the person is, the more critical it is to correct hearing loss. Safety, fall prevention, preservation of mental acuity, reduction of the efects of dementia and Alzheimer’s and the reduction of age related depression are all beneits of correcting hearing loss.

COMMUNITY VOICE David Larson a pivotal year. So as was we embark further into this Year of Over Testing let’s make a few key predictions of what will happen as students, teachers, parents, school districts and the general public contend with over testing. These predictions include the following:

Unaware universities and colleges: Ask any university admissions official about the PARCC assessments and you will get a confused and bewildered look. Because of this lack of engagement and ownership by post-secondary schools, the credibility, purpose and role of the PARCC assessment as a college admissions measure will continue to be undermined.

Disengaged high school students: Because the ACT has been a key criteria that colleges and universities have used in the application/selection process, parents and students will question the value and purpose of the

Less joy and wonder for learning: For grades 3 to 8, the PARCC assessment will replace the Illinois Standard Achievement Test.) The PARCC exam is longer and significantly more rigorous. This increased level of critical thinking and analysis required in answering questions will require a new kind of persistence and focus on the part of students. States that have already implemented the PARCC exams, including Kentucky and New York, have noted high levels of student frustration and anxiety. Frustrated teachers: Rolling out the high stakes PARCC assessments without a trial implementation year has caused undue stress and anxiety on the part of instructors. No rehearsals, exhibition and preseason to ensure a smooth transition. This will result in stifled creativity and “teaching to the test.” Logistical quandaries: The much

longer PARCC exams come in two waves, with the performance-based assessment in early spring and the end-of-year portion during the last weeks of school. Along with the Advanced Placement, ACT and end of course assessments, you will hardly find a day this spring that is not disrupted by testing. Additionally, many school districts lack the technological infrastructure to provide the online testing. Each local school district embraces a comprehensive K-12 assessment system that supports accountability, informs instruction, is used as a metric for college admissions and is aligned to college and career readiness skills, including the Common Core. Unfortunately, implementation of the PARCC assessments is bound to miss the mark on this standard. In this “Year of Over Testing,” we’re holding our students and teachers to higher standards. If only we held the PARCC policymakers and planners to a similarly high bar.

David Larson is the superintendent of Glenbard Township High School District 87.

PARCC assessments. Because high school students will have little “skin in the game,” they may not have the intrinsic motivation and necessary effort for success. We know it’s hard to fool a teenager.

It’s always fun in January to identify the name of the Chinese lunar calendar for the New Year. While we are aware that 2015 is the Year of the Goat, in education circles we are calling this year the Year of Over Testing. For high schools in Illinois, along with the annual college admissions ACT, spring Advanced Placement exams and the usual end of course exams, we are now implementing the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers assessments in English 1 and algebra 1 for all students in these courses (mostly freshmen). The PARCC assessment also will be given to all students in grades third to eighth, also in math and English. This new rigorous assessment, based on the Common Core Standards, will measure not only students’ knowledge of content, but also their ability to analyze, reason and problem solve. This lengthy computer-based exam will allow for tracking each student’s growth toward key career and college readiness standards, thus ramping up the accountability. As we watch the national debate and discussion regarding testing and accountability, we know 2015 is

Transparency fight is renewed in Springfield Here we go again. Some lawmakers in Springfield again are taking aim at making government less transparent. Republican state Rep. Joe Sosnowski of Rockford has filed House Bill 261. If passed, it would end the publication of all public notices in newspapers in favor of government websites. The legislation states when a governmental unit is required to provide notice by publication in a newspaper by law, order of court or contract, the governmental unit may publish the notice on an official government website instead of in a newspaper. You might recall a similar assault of transparency occurred in 2011, when a similar bill was filed. It was unsuccessful. Proponents of the bill say it would save governments money. The trade off might seem sensible, but a closer look exposes the legislation for what it is: a stealthy assault on open government under the guise of saving money. Newspapers, of course, have a vested interest in this matter: The bill would take revenue from most newspapers. For decades, however, public notices have been printed in newspapers for a good reason: to provide the greatest verifiable public exposure for the money spent. (Public notices are billed at a discounted ad rate, by the way). The audience provided by a local newspaper dwarfs the number of readers on a local governmental website. The legislation’s flaws become more apparent with the realization many people still don’t use or have

access to the Internet, especially the poor, the elderly, minorities and the disabled. Ample proof exists that local governments blatantly disregard the law when it comes to posting information online. A recent audit conducted by the Citizens Advocacy Center studied more than 750 public body websites in Illinois. In cases where local governments already are required by law to post information on their websites, the compliance rates were abysmal. Only 73 percent complied with posting notice of upcoming meetings, a mere 57 percent complied with posting proposed meeting agendas and less than half – 48 percent – complied with posting approved meeting minutes. And remember, Illinois has an excessive number of taxing bodies. Citizens would have to check each one to monitor legal ads, which provide notice of such things as public meetings, budget hearings and government expenditures. That’s much less efficient for the public than having a one-stop source for public notices – the local newspaper. For people who use the Internet, Illinois newspapers (including this one) already offer a free, online public notice service. Visit www. publicnoticeillinois.com/ to search for public notices from this community and many others. HB 261 is sitting in the House Counties & Township Committee. That’s where it should die. The bill is a risky step backward for the interests of open, honest, above board government. In Illinois, it’s absolutely the wrong step to take.

Upset with COD officials I was just reading the article on “College of DuPage officials respond to radio station fraud.” It seems to me that they’re putting quite a spin on this. One thing they seem to feel is because the percentage, when you figure it that way, is so low when it comes to the cost that it’s insignificant. Maybe I’m not reading this article correctly, but it surely seems to me that the COD officials don’t regard the taxpayers at all. I’m really upset right now.

Park space is more valuable than presidential library plan By what authority can the Chicago Park District give away 20 acres of parkland so that the presidential library can be built next to the University of Chicago campus? Has anyone asked the residents of the area if they want their park to be given away? How many of those residents will visit the new library more than once a year, if at all? And at the same time, they will lose a valuable resource for weekend family gatherings and other leisure activities.

And let’s hope that none of us, city of Chicago or state of Illinois, are taxed even one cent to support someone’s ego.

Can’t ban everything While reading the letter from 15-yearold Abby in her quest to protect the Earth from plastic bags, her statement, “Recycling puts all the responsibility on me,” struck me with another sad reality that many of our young people are not being taught that yes, the responsibility does get put on you as a responsible person. If it was that easy to take care of the earth by banning or charging for plastic bags, why not ban/ charge/tax every single item that you see along the road (cans, newspapers, straws, etc.)?

What’s the deal with Twitter? What is going on with everyone talking about Twitter? Everyone is always “hashtag this” and “retweet that.” My nephew even tweets his pet peeves every week. I know I sound like an old crank when I say this, but I think it’s all pretty silly.

Nice sound bite, “Learning to master the English language should be the No. 1 priority for all students.” Who’s going to argue with that? Glen Ellyn is not in Arizona. Ninety percent of the District 41 students speak English as natives already. … The dual language programs and model foreign language programs offered for elementary students make Glen Ellyn Schools very, very attractive. I have seen firsthand the incredibly talented District 41 language teachers do their magic. This has nothing to do with politics or costs. It has everything to do with providing the highest quality of education for all students.

Faculty Association: ‘Bad relationship’ with Breuder led to no confidence vote By EVAN SHIELDS eshields@shawmedia.com GLEN ELLYN – The College of DuPage Faculty Association has released details about its September vote on no confidence in college President Robert Breuder. The 14-page resolution, which was released the week of the Feb. 19 Board of Trustees meeting, details why the faculty voted 189-53 in favor of the first vote of no confidence in the history of the College of DuPage. The resolution includes claims of wasteful spending, lack of internal trust and intimidation, among various other claims. At the end of the resolution, the faculty re- Robert quested Breuder resign. Breuder Glenn Hansen, president of the college’s Faculty Association, said the resolution is the result of a “bad relationship that we have with Dr. Breuder due to many reasons.” Hansen said Breuder has an adversarial management style that has resulted in a poor mental state for the faculty, resulting in a stressful working environment. “We don’t feel inspired by him as a leader,” Hansen said. The resolution was crafted by the Faculty Association in August, and the entire faculty voted on the measure in September. Hansen said the resolution has not changed since the faculty voted on it, with the exception of grammar and punctuation fixes. The resolution contains no mention of the controversy that has been unearthed over the past few months, including the fraud uncovered at WDCB, the college radio station, and accusations of questionable spending by Breuder at the Waterleaf Restaurant and a lack of transparency over public information. Hansen said the faculty likely won’t have another vote based on everything that has happened since September, but said the recent events would only further bolster the faculty vote. “It would be an even more overwhelming vote of no confidence,” Hansen said. Since the resolution was released, Hansen has received no response from any trustees about its contents. The Faculty Association had arranged a meeting with a few trustees to discuss the resolution, but that meeting got canceled and was never rescheduled. “The faculty are very disappointed with the way the Board of Trustees has handled this,” Hansen said. Breuder addressed the no confidence vote in a Feb. 23 issue of the

college’s internal newsletter, which linked to a 34-page response. He dismissed all the claims made by the Faculty Association, arguing they had an ax to grind with previous boards. “When I was hired, the faculty union was not happy with the presidential search,” Breuder wrote in his response. “An antagonistic relationship existed between [faculty] union leadership and the [former board Chairman Michael] McKinnon Board of Trustees. The national search culminated in my appointment, much to the chagrin of the union who saw the search process as flawed.” Though Breuder’s lengthy response was released in February, it is dated Oct. 14, 2014. Breuder does not indicate when he read the Faculty Association’s resolution. “When I first learned of the outcome of the vote I was interested in the underlying reasons and learned that a long list of items formed the basis for the negative vote,” Breuder wrote. “As I reviewed the list carefully and thought about each item, it became evident I was reading a solicited listing of anything, everything that disturbed someone at some time since my arrival.” After discrediting the faculty’s resolution, Breuder continued by saying this was a personal attack that would surely continue. “Factual accuracy has never been important to the Senate leadership. It does not support their irresponsible and unfounded accusations,” he wrote. “This additional list is nothing more than piling on. Continue to throw everything possible even if it has no merit. Continue to discredit the administration at all cost. The ‘bury the enemy’ mentality will not have the effect the Senate leadership hopes.” Before the Feb. 19 Board of Trustees meeting, trustee Kim Savage said she wanted Breuder to leave due to “ongoing tensions” between Breuder and the faculty since the last rounds of contract negotiations, which occurred in 2011. The Board of Trustees began talking with Breuder about leaving the college in April 2014, Savage said. The vote of no confidence confirmed her belief that Breuder should leave the college. Savage said the buyout Breuder received was a “mutually agreeable” decision for the board and a “responsible solution.” The $762,000 severance payment covers 1.5 years of Breuder’s salary and benefits, as opposed to the three years the board would be forced to pay if Breuder remained at the school. Hansen said he’s not interested in getting into a “war of words” with Breuder. Both he and Savage said they want to move forward to do what’s best for the college and students.

By NATHAN LURZ nlurz@shawmedia.com A new bill introduced to the state House of Representatives could spell the end of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County Board of Commissioners. On Feb. 26, state Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, filed House Bill 3099 that would extend the terms of all current board members until Deb 2018, after which their Conroy responsibilities would be transferred to the DuPage County Board. Conroy said the move was about efficiency and saving money for taxpayers while still caring for county natural resources. “When I was first elected two years ago, I started looking at areas where we could save taxpayer dollars, and the forest preserve was one of the first ones,” she said. “In looking into that, I realized it was the only forest preserve board in the state of Illinois that is paid independently in that way – most have stipends or are covered by the county board.” The DuPage County Board had long had control over the forest preserve, but

the county created the separate elected board in 2002 and cut down the number of County Board members from 24 to 18, according to the forest preserve’s website. Conroy said eliminating the board of six commissioners and president could save taxpayers more than $500,000 annually by eliminating the board’s salary and insurance costs – which she claims cost up to $77,209.50 per commissioner each year. “With the situation that we are in now financially, every taxpayer dollar is important,” she said. In 2013, Conroy introduced a similar bill that would have let voters decide whether to have the board continue without receiving compensation. Another bill from former Rep. Dennis Reboletti from the same year would have done the same while dissolving the board in 2016. Under the new bill, the County Board chairman would appoint a fulltime liaison to advise the board on forest preserve issues. DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said while he “very enthusiastically” supported the mission of the forest preserve to protect and care for the land of DuPage, he would be open to a conversation on the best way to go about it.

“Rep. Conroy is proposing a different model – different than the old one, different than the current one – so let’s be honest and open minded about it and take a look at it, just as long as it protects and preserves the open space and environmental habitats,” he said. Forest preserve commissioner Tim Whelan called the legislation unnecessary and “not very well thought through” and said there are plenty of other, more efficient areas to focus cuts. He said he believed what the County Board did was and should be separate from the tasks of the forest preserve. “Our mission is preservation and acquisition of and preservation of green space ... and the County Board is more about the concepts of economic development and development,” he said. “Each government agency is different from the beginning – that was the motivation for dividing the boards up in the first place.” Board members frequently meet with staff, constituents and stakeholders outside of official board meetings, Whelan said, providing more perspectives to issues. “I feel that to be able to serve the taxpayers of DuPage County from a forest preserve perspective, it is better to have our own board and discuss these issues every day, every week, so we can assure we have our preservation,” he said.

LETTERS Resident offers D-41 endorsement To the editor: District 41 in Glen Ellyn has undergone significant changes, and taken significant initiatives that have a great impact in the educational experience for our children in the system. In the times I have been present at the board meetings, I have had the opportunity to ask questions, but unfortunately many times I have not gotten answers. I believe this April we’ll have the opportunity to voice our opinions and concerns regarding the state of the district. We need someone who will listen to the community and ask the hard questions. Someone who can help bring transparency back and restore the faith of the community in the Board of Education. I believe that Stephanie Clark, Kurt Buchholz and Kevin Rath will bring that transparency and accountability. They have been a consistent presence in the District 41 board meetings, sharing their passion and desire to help our district be accountable and transparent in their decision-making. I believe their involvement in the community and previous experience makes them a great team to add to our Board of Education. David Rojas Glen Ellyn

MCLEAN, VA--(Marketwired - Mar 2, 2015) - Another strong year is expected for the multifamily markets based on the Freddie Mac (OTCQB: FMCC) Multifamily economic outlook for 2015, which was released today. The key market drivers are expected to keep the multifamily market moving forward, although it will be slightly slower paced than in 2014 and with more dispersion across geographic markets. A video preview along with the complete Outlook is available here.

Quotes from Steve Guggenmos, senior director of Freddie Mac Multifamily investments and research: “The multifamily market will see another strong year in 2015, albeit at lower levels than in 2014. Even as many more properties are completed and new supply is delivered to the market, demand and absorption rates will remain high through 2015 due to favorable demographics and an overall sturdier economy. However, we will see more dispersion across metros as some smaller metros that have been slower to recover pick up steam.”

N PR EW IC E

4 Bed, 2.2 Bath $739,000

Outlook Highlights: • The amount of multifamily supply that will be delivered in 2015 will surpass pre-recession averages, but a sturdier economy and favorable demographics will produce another strong year for multifamily. •Multifamily starts and completions are expected to continue their upward trend, with starts continuing to rise through 2015 and perhaps 2016, and completions to remain above the average for several years to come. •Supply could begin to outpace demand this year. However, depending on how much pent-up demand is released, demand could continue to outpace supply. •The multifamily capitalization rate will stay under 6 percent this year. •Vacancy rates will rise in most Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) in 2015 as new supply becomes available and rent growth will vary among markets. •Vacancy rates will revert to historical averages in Baltimore; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Los Angeles; Philadelphia; Salt Lake City; Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; and Washington, D.C. •The top 10 list of MSAs with the lowest vacancy rates and highest percentage of gross income growth includes many of the usual suspects, such as Boston, New York, and San Francisco.

Late run ruins Hilltoppers’ upset bid in regional semis By SCOTT SCHMID sschmid@shawmedia.com GLEN ELLYN – An unfortunate theme for Glenbard West this year has been an inability to close out games against good teams. And that scenario played out again Tuesday as the Hilltoppers nearly pulled off a big upset on their home floor but saw Benet use a game-ending 9-0 run to end Glenbard West’s season 45-39. Kalen Starkey made a basket to give Glenbard West a 39-36 lead midway through the fourth quarter in the Class 4A regional semifinal. Jason Malonga had a steal and layup for Benet with 3:38 left to cut the lead to one, and Dan Sobolewski made a 3-pointer on Benet’s next possession to give the Redwings the lead. Glenbard West failed to score in the game’s final four minutes. Benet was able to ice the game by going 4 for 7 from the free-throw line in the final minute. “We turned it over a couple times and gave up a couple open looks and that’s the difference,” Glenbard West coach Tim Hoder said. “We’ve had a lot of games like this where we were close and we didn’t make a big play. It’s just disappointing, the kids played hard.” The host Hilltoppers led 19-11 early in the second quarter before an 8-0 Benet run tied the game. Glenbard West went into halftime up 24-21. The Hilltoppers rebuilt a seven-point lead in the third quarter only to see that evaporate into a 34-34 tie entering the fourth quarter. Alex Passi had 13 points to lead Glenbard West. Passi and Justin Pierce will be expected to lead the team next year and will hope to turn some of the close losses – the Hilltoppers lost seven games by four points or less this season – into victories. “It’s great experience for our juniors, being in these situations,” Hoder said. “I think it makes them hungry to improve on that next year. We’ve had so many games that came down to a possession or two.” In its playoff opener Monday, Glenbard West came out on fire in an eventual 63-46 victory against Wheaton Warrenville South. Passi

and Aidan Gould both hit a pair of 3-pointers as the Hilltoppers jumped out to a 21-9 advantage after the opening eight minutes. “The fans were amazing all night and it was great to play at home,” Gould said. “We played pretty well at home this whole year.” The visitors sliced the deficit to six by halftime before Glenbard West outscored the Tigers 17-12 in the

third period behind six points from Gould and five from Pierce. WWS never got to within single digits the rest of the way. Gould finished with a game-high 17 points. Pierce chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds and Passi finished with 14 points. Starkey added eight points and 14 rebounds. “It helps when you shoot well early,” Hoder said. “We knocked down
