SUBURBAN LIFE MEDIA CLARENDON HILLS – A pair of Chinese folk dancers taught Prospect School children aspects of Chinese culture during a March 24 program, according to a school news release. Olinda Chang and Mei-Xu, both born in China and currently living in Naperville, performed traditional dances and explained the significance of the movements and the use of swords to the students. As part of the learning experience, parent volunteers Connie Leung and Shina Liu also taught students about the Chinese New Year celebration by showing Chinese children’s clothing, lanterns, chopsticks, banners and other traditional items. “No matter what nationalities we are, we share the same feelings as human beings,” Liu said in the release. “We care about our children, our school and we care about each other. ERRORS
are much more common now - since Tax Reform is not Tax Simplification! If you do not include all income, or if you put information on the wrong line, the IRS computers can find you. Math errors (especially on the tax computation worksheet of Schedule D with qualified dividends and capital gains) are only one problem. Others are: • Correctly completing the all new Schedule D for gains and losses with the new Form 8949 • Calculating the correct amount of taxable Social Security • Including the correct amount of Estimated Tax paid for 2014 • Adding tax-free income and subtracting retirement income on the IL 1040 • Including your Real Estate Parcel Number on your IL ICR These errors can slow down your refund and cause an IRS or IL letter. The computers check all 1099s and the computation on all returns. Letters from the IRS or IL scare even the best of us when they arrive. STRAUSS TAX SERVICE can accurately prepare your 2014 tax return, explain each form, answer your questions for 2015 tax planning and save you money. CLARENDON HILLS – For the second time in the seven months, Tracy’s Tavern, 401 55th St., will host a concert by Australian blues guitarist Michael Charles – this time at 9 p.m. April 11. The Grammy-nominated veteran musician is a big get for the tavern, which holds a maximum of 170 people. “I’ve had other artists that have gone on to do big things, but he has got to be the biggest name I’ve got in here,” owner Hunt Tracy said. He said the shows came about thanks to friend and bar patron Vincent Sama, who owns the auto shop
to play with him. He often plays at the House of Blues and Buddy Guy’s Legends in Chicago, as well as traveling for shows in the n WHAT: Blues concert with Michael U.S. and Canada. Charles Sama suggested to Charles that he n WHEN: 9 p.m. April 11 play a show at Tracy’s Tavern. n WHERE: Tracy’s Tavern, 401 55th St., Charles said he enjoys performing Clarendon Hills in venues of all sizes. n INFO: 630-654-9451 “What I like about [small venues] is it’s intimate,” he said. “People are 3 feet in front of you.” Tracy said he did not know much D&K Service in Maywood. Sama, who is known as J.R. to his about Charles when Sama mentioned friends, works on all of the trucks the show, but he is a Buddy Guy fan. “I didn’t really know what to exCharles uses on his tours. Things went so well during the first concert that Charles agreed to the next concert before he even left for the night. “I’ll probably do an annual thing there,” Charles said. “The last time I played there, I had a great time.” Tracy said he expects another full house for the April concert. “People can expect to hear just phenomenal blues music outside the city of Chicago, in the western suburbs,” he said. Charles said the important part of performing for any crowd is putting all your effort into the show. “As long as people like what you’re doing and you’re enjoying yourself, it’s just a buzz all around,” he said.

Students compete in state geography bee at COD By MATT LA LUZ mlaluz@shawmedia.com GLEN ELLYN – More than 100 students from across the state competed March 27 in the Illinois National Geographic State Bee at College of DuPage, but only one could rise above the pack. Alexandru Grindeanu, an eighth-grader from Gower Middle School in Burr Ridge, fought his way through the tense competition to become the champion and will represent the state in the national competition this May in Washington, D.C. Illinois State Bee Coordinator Michael Middleton organized the state bee, in its 27th year. Middleton emphasized the bee is much more than just naming U.S. states and capitals. “We could ask you art, sports, literature, food, because geography touches every aspect of life,” said Middleton. Moderator Chris Sutton asked a variety of questions with categories ranging from locations of popular festivals around the world, where some of the top roller coasters are located and other geographic trivia. After several elimination rounds, Alexandru won in the three-question finale by answering correctly to the question: “A recent fossil discovery
revealed that spinosaurus, the largest known carnivorous dinosaur, is also the first known swimming dinosaur. This fossil was unearthed in the Kem Kem beds near the city of Errachidia in which country that borders Algeria?” The correct answer is Morocco. “We are very proud of him,” said Grindeanu’s father, Iulian Grindeanu. “He is a very good kid, [with] top grades. We knew he could do it.” The younger Grindeanu was overcome with emotion when discussing his win. “It’s the best moment of my life,” he said. “I just can’t describe it. I’m just happy.” Becoming the state champion was no easy feat for Alexandru, who spent most of his time diving into geography and absorbing information that could help him. “I played geography games, quiz games, review games, read maps, atlases, magazines,” Alexandru said. “Anything can help you win, like watching movies, watching TV, all of that has added to my knowledge.” Other notable contestants included Akshay and Aditya Badlani from Brook Forest Elementary School. They were the first pair of brothers to compete in the same year at the state level and made it to the final round of 10 contestants.

Akshay, a fourth-grader from Oak Brook, was a first time geography bee contestant and was enthusiastic about the bee and competing alongside his brother, who is a sixth-grader. “I got into it by my brother,” Akshay said. “He knew all U.S. capitals when he was like 2 or 3, and when I was 8, he just got me into it. I want to learn
more about the world and its people.” The national winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society and a trip to the Galápagos Islands. The finals will be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel on May 15.

By MATTHEW HENDRICKSON mhendrickson@shawmedia.com DAN FARNHAM dfarnham@shawmedia.com HINSDALE – Both sides in an ongoing debate at Hinsdale Township School District 86 over allegations that candidates running for seats on the Board of Education have used school functions to campaign have seen complaints filed against them with the district this week. A complaint was filed Sunday night with the district by candidate Bill Carpenter, who is running for a seat on the board on a slate alongside Jennifer Planson and Kathleen Hirsman, in which Carpenter alleges board member Claudia Manley and board President Richard Skoda violated the district’s Policy 4:20 and the ethics policy when they used a Pizza Palooza event March 6 at Hinsdale Central to distribute campaign literature on campus.
The incident that set off the debate occurred when Hinsdale South senior Melissa Dupont said she was handing out campaign fliers before a school play March 12 at Hinsdale South. As she was handing out her materials, she said she was confronted by board member Claudia Manley, who was at the school to see her daughter in the school play.

A Downers Grove man was charged with robbing a Downers Grove pizza parlor, attempting to rob a Hinsdale gas station and leading authorities on a chase, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office announced in a news release. James W. Himpler, 48, of the 4800 block of Oak- James W. wood Avenue, Downers Himpler Grove, faces charges of aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, the release stated. Himpler allegedly robbed a Domino’s Pizza at 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Belmont Road in Downers Grove after telling the store clerk he was armed, according to the release. He allegedly stole $127 from the business. At 4:15 a.m., Himpler entered the Shell Food Mart at York Road and Ogden Avenue in Hinsdale and allegedly told the clerk he was armed and demanded money but left without stealing anything, the release stated. Several witnesses called law enforcement and a chase followed before Himpler was arrested by the Burr Ridge Police Department, according to the release. “It is alleged that within a four-hour period, Mr. Himpler entered two separate businesses intent on robbery,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin stated in the release. “Thankfully no one was hurt at either establishment, and through the fine work of several law enforcement agencies, he was taken into custody a short time later.” Himpler is being held on a $400,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court April 27.

Law said board policy dictates that such complaints are investigated by designated complaint managers – either the assistant superintendent or the chief human resource officer. He said Tuesday the chief human resource officer was on vacation and, so as not to have the assistant superintendent investigate the superintendent, the district’s attorney has been appointed as the complaint manager.

Manley is not running for re-election April 7, as her term has not expired, but is aligned with Skoda’s Conservative Slate in the election. On Monday, Claudia Manley’s husband, Noel, submitted two complaints to the district, alleging Superintendent Bruce Law and board member Jennifer Planson violated board policy by giving permission for people to pass out campaign literature before a play March 13 at Hinsdale South. Planson said the complaint against her and Law distracts from the real issue, which she said was Claudia Manley’s inappropriate interaction with a student. Both campaigns cite district Policy 4:20 as the rule being violated, with Carpenter additionally cited the district’s ethics policy. The disagreement stems over differing interpretations of board Policy 4:20 relating to advertising and sponsorships in the district. In the policy, a list of prohibited types of advertising includes “advertisements that promote any religious or political organizations” and “campaign materials from candidates and political parties.” Law has said previously, after consulting with the district legal counsel, that the policy refers to paid advertis-

Celebrate the art and OUR VIEW science of storytelling PR firm hire can’t obscure bad at your local library decisions at College of DuPage A couple of years ago, Annie Murphy Paul summarized some fascinating new studies on reading and brain activity in her New York Times Article, “Your Brain on Fiction” (March 17, 2012). She wrote, “It is an exercise that hones our real-life social skills, another body of research suggests. Dr. Oatley and Dr. Mar, in collaboration with COMMUNITY several other scientists, reported in two studies, pubVOICE lished in 2006 and 2009, that Karen Kleckner individuals who frequently Keefe read fiction seem to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and see the world from their perspective. This relationship persisted even after the researchers accounted for the possibility that more empathetic individuals might prefer reading novels.” At Hinsdale Public Library, fiction is our highest circulating area. It’s more popular than nonfiction, too – our borrowers checked out twice as many fiction titles as nonfiction books last year. But, with about 300,000 books being published in the U.S. every year, a reader could spend more time trying to decide which books to pick than actually reading. Which is why our staff is dedicated to adding titles to our collection based on community interest and finding creative ways to get those books into the hands of the right reader. One of our favorite ways to recommend books is as part of a good old-fashioned conversation. When you tell one of our staff that you loved Gabrielle Zevin’s “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry,” we might ask if you’ve read Elinor Lipman’s charming “The Family Man” or the classic “84 Charing Cross Road” by Helene Hanff. If your teen can’t get enough of Veronica Roth’s dystopian adventures, we might suggest that you take home James Dashner’s bestselling “The Maze Runner.” We also introduce our readers to new titles though our displays, booklists, Pinterest page and e-newsletters. We have lists for fans of mystery, science fiction, New York Times bestsellers, teen interest and book groups. Visit hinsdalelibrary.info to sign up. So, raise a book to libraries this April when we celebrate National Library Week. As Paul concluded in her essay, “Reading great literature, it has long been averred, enlarges and improves us as human beings. Brain science shows this claim is truer than we imagined.”

College of DuPage serves about 28,000 students a semester, making it the second-largest undergraduate institution in Illinois. It has more than 90 certificate and degree programs. It’s a jewel of the western suburbs, extending beyond its namesake county to serve students from Lemont to Naperville, from La Grange to Elmhurst to West Chicago, all from its campus in Glen Ellyn. That litany of good things makes the ongoing torrent of bad news from and about COD leadership all the more outrageous for those of us who live and pay taxes in the school’s district. The recent hiring of a $250-an-hour public relations firm, for instance, fits the textbook definition of irony perfectly. Spending taxpayer money to convince those same taxpayers that you didn’t waste their money is so ludicrous on its face that one wonders if the board members piled out of a clown car when they arrived at the meeting where this decision took place. “I think it’s clear that there is need for a PR firm to help the public understand what the true facts are,” board Chairwoman Erin Birt said. It seems that “true facts” about the college are emerging on an almost daily basis, and the public doesn’t seem to be having any trouble understanding them: • Carla Burkhart, a member of the College of DuPage Foundation Board of Directors, has received more than $630,000 in no-bid contracts. Her graphic design firm, Herricane Graphics, was given contracts in 2012 and 2014 for designing signage worth a total
of more than $186,000. Change orders on the contracts have hiked the total payments, according to board documents. • The Chicago Tribune, citing law enforcement and other sources, reported Monday that the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office has issued grand jury subpoenas for records relating to expenses for school administrators at Waterleaf, the restaurant on campus. The Tribune has reported COD President Robert Breuder and other administrators expensed more than $190,000 on food and drinks in the past three years at Waterleaf. • Dan Bailey, a candidate in the upcoming election for COD Board of Trustees, claimed more than $2 million was handed out to College of DuPage Foundation board members without having to submit a competitive bid. Bailey’s allegations prompted Birt to launch a “review” of the practice. This is all on top of alleged fraud at the college’s radio station, Breuder’s sweetheart deal to step down as president with an extra $762,000 in his pocket after an embarrassing email leaked, and the board’s continued dithering on whether to allow an audit of its finances. Students at the school pay $140 per credit hour. That, and taxpayers across the suburbs, in multiple counties, are paying for all of this. If you haven’t voted already, you’re going to want to weigh in. You can see what 11 of the 12 candidates have to say, both incumbents and challengers, at http://shawurl. com/1tfx. Make sure you’re informed so you can help get this great school back on course.

D-86 should enforce policies It seems to me that the recent kerfuffle in Hinsdale High School 86 over campaign literature being distributed on campus would have never occurred if District 86 would enforce its policies like all other schools and keep our schools free of advertising by outside groups. Adults should never use students as pawns for their personal and political agendas.

Machine-style politics in DuPage What’s going on with the DuPage County Republican organization with the consolidation election upon us? DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin and Regional Superintendent Darlene Ruscitti have been appointed to the governor task force on consolidation. The big question is will they have the stomach to end the high spending synonymous with Illinois government? It should be noted the April 7 election is designated nonpartisan. Then why has the Republican leadership endorsed certain Republican candidates. Why are they going to throw their full financial support of the party behind these candidates and exclude those Republican candidates not so anointed. It appears DuPage has [it’s] own style of machine-style politics. … Using machine-style politics in a so-called nonpartisan election could backfire.
Thank you, Founding Fathers
The 47 Republicans who signed a letter addressed to the Ayatollah of Iran are not criminally guilty of sedition – an act of inciting hostility against the government likely to cause rebellion or insurrection. They are not acting out of “hate” for the president or seeking to “undermine” him. They exercised the same First Amendment right the writer used in his or her Sound Off letter. They made it clear to the ayatollah and PresCOD board needs PR firm? One would hope it is not necessary to remind voters that the two members of the [College of DuPage] Board of Trustees who voted in favor of the [Robert] Breuder buyout and who are running for re-election to the board have proven themselves to be unacceptable for board membership. With their votes they made it clear it was easier for them to soak the taxpayers who are not responsible for their mismanagement than to deal with the wrath of Mr. Breuder, had he been denied what he wanted. We also need to keep this in mind when the 2017 election rolls around should two more of these alleged public servants decide to run for re-election to the board.

The universe we live in is upside down. The Hinsdale High School teachers who held our children hostage are the good guys. But the board representing us taxpayers are the bad guys. Enough of this nonsense in Hinsdale. We cannot allow the pro-union slate to control our school board. Please vote, yes, on April 7 to end teacher strikes and to keep the board free from union control.

Claudia Manley has not returned numerous requests for comment since Dupont’s petition was posted online.
Continued from page 7 Dupont claimed Manley “bullied” her to the point of tears during their interaction. Dupont said she returned to the school to distribute fliers March 13 and was again confronted by Manley, and she later put up an online petition calling for Manley’s resignation over her alleged behavior. The petition currently has collected more than 1,300 signatures calling for Manley’s resignation. At a school board meeting March 23, members of the public continued calls for the resignation of Manley – who did not attend the meeting – and had harsh words for Skoda and his campaign manager, Robert Bland.
Both sides accused of playing politics On Wednesday, Carpenter said he filed his complaint with the district after hearing Skoda deny during the board meeting March 23 that he was campaigning at the school’s Pizza Palooza event. Carpenter said Skoda’s denial during the board meeting showed an abuse of his position as board president. “It bothered me because I have knowledge of him [campaigning at the March 6 event],” Carpenter said. In his complaint, Carpenter said a student told him they received a flier supporting the Conservative Slate

and said they got it from a table where Skoda was sitting with Claudia and Noel Manley. Carpenter said that he was at Hinsdale South on March 13 when Dupont had her second interaction with Claudia Manley and said Noel told him at that time that they had stopped campaigning at the Pizza Palooza event when asked. Skoda denied there was any campaigning going on at the Pizza Palooza event and said he did not see or distribute any political materials at the event. He said if a supporter of his campaign handed out materials it “wasn’t organized,” which he said was in contrast to the campaigning he said Dupont was doing at the school on behalf of Planson, Carpenter and Hirsman on March 12 and 13.

Board plans special meeting to discuss issues Skoda said Thursday that the District 86 Board will meet Monday to formally discuss the policy and hopefully come to an interpretation. Following the fallout of the student’s claims against Manley’s behavior March 12 and 13, Superintendent Law said he had banned campaigning on campus until the board could decide on a formal policy that would cover it. Skoda said that will happen at Monday’s meeting, which will be held at Hinsdale Central High School at 7:30 p.m. The meeting with open with a period of public comment before the board enters closed session to discuss the district’s policies.
ZELDA TETENBAUM Zelda Dorin Tetenbaum, 83, a long-time resident of Hinsdale, IL, died at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital on January 15, after suffering a stroke. She was born in Mountaindale, NY, the daughter of Mariasha (Kanotopsky) and Boris Dorin. She is survived by Marvin, her husband of 60 years; her daughters, Barbara and Lynn (husband Steven); and two grandchildren, Alex and Jay, from her son, David (who died in 1998) and daughter-inlaw, Amelia (now married to Ian McKercher). Zelda taught science for 21 years at the Hinsdale Junior High (now the Middle School) before retiring to pursue other science-related work. Over the past decades, she has written for the science textbook publisher D.C. Heath and consulted on teacher enhancement at Argonne National Laboratory. After her son David died of a brain tumor, Zelda turned her efforts to promoting awareness of the disease her son had battled. She became a delegate to the North American Brain Tumor Coalition, an organization founded to present a strong public policy voice on behalf of adults and children with brain tumors. During this tenure she met with members of Congress when she attended Brain Tumor Awareness Week in Washington, DC. Zelda continued in advocacy as a member of the NIH Advocacy Advisory Board and as a member in the Consumer Advocates in Research and Related Activities. In addition to this work, she volunteered weekly for the organization Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, becoming a reader of textbooks for those who were unable to read or comprehend because of visual or cognitive deficiencies. A celebration of Zelda's life will take place on July 9th, 6:00 p.m. at Katherine Legge Memorial Lodge in Hinsdale, (630) 789-7095. Donations in her memory may be made to the Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States (CBTRUS), 244 E. Ogden Ave., Suite 116, Hinsdale, IL 60521.

bit of a new-look pitching staff this season. Graduated seniors Charlie Banke, Austin Butler and Nick Senicka combined to throw 148 of the team’s 235 innings, or 63 percent of the innings. Chapman, Dan Teska [42 innings pitched, 2.50 ERA, 3-2 record], Tom Lorenc [23 2/3 innings, 2.36 ERA, 1-1 record] and Mike Guerrero [2-1 with a save] are the top returning pitchers. What the staff lacks in experience is countered by incredible depth. “What we have this year that we didn’t have last year is a lot of depth,” Ziemer said. “Last year we were six or seven deep. This year we have 12 or 13 guys and we go eight or nine deep. “We have a number of juniors coming up we expect to give us some quality innings.” There was no waiting around for the slew of new talent to be tested as the Red Devils faced Conant, Metea Valley, Maine South [a 2014 regional champion] and Brother Rice in nonconference games before starting WSS conference play Saturday at Lyons Township. “Our goal from day one is to beat LT and Oak Park-River Forest,” Ziemer said. “If we do Mark Busch file photo - mbusch@shawmedia.com that we should be in the competition for the conference ti- Hinsdale Central outfielder Trenton Barnett throws out a runner at third base in a game last season. HINSDALE – A year after coming close to winning a regional title last spring, Hinsdale Central’s baseball team will have a different look on the mound and in the batting order this season. Three of the Red Devils’ top four RBI producers from last season have graduated, as have three pitchers that accounted for a majority of the innings. Despite the changes, Central head coach Jason Ziemer believes his team has the talent to compete at a high level once again. “We believe we can definitely win conference,” Ziemer said. “We fully expect to be right there. Winning the West Suburban Silver is step one.” While the Red Devils lose five players that contributed to the lineup, Michael Johnson returns after batting .402 with a team-high 29 RBIs last season. Mark Dykstra [.294, 17 RBIs, 21 runs scored] also is back. The lineup also will receive a shot in the arm in the form of Louisville recruit Chris Botsoe, who returns after missing much of last season after being hit in the face with a pitch. “It’s great having him back,” Ziemer said of Botsoe. “He had a double, a triple and two stolen bases Monday [against Conant], and the pitcher balked him in. Having him back gives us some consistency at the top of the lineup, and his presence as a leader this season is better than I could have imagined.” Trenton Barnett got 88 at bats last season while Ben Chapman hit .333 in a limited role last spring. Hinsdale South Hornets
jrossi@shawmedia.com DARIEN – It’s the nature of high school sports that players will eventually graduate and new players must take their place. It’s a situation Hinsdale South’s baseball team is facing this season. The graduation of nine seniors who played at key positions on a regular basis stings, but head coach Paul Hoel believes the returning junior talent plus the addition of a pair of sophomores should ensure another competitive season for the Hornets. “We’ve got a lot of juniors and a couple sophomores up, but we feel good about our group,” Hoel said. Alex Briscolino and Tim Dziergas are juniors who saw extensive varsity action last season. Dziergas batted near the top of the order, and he and Briscolino figure to be main cogs in the offense this year. Seniors Lucas Carlson, Matt Marrera, Tom Mihalkinan, Anthony Nicholas, Nate Overmann and Jason Shanker also are back on varsity, and senior Robbie Regan returns after a season away. “I like the way we run. I think we’re all right pitching the ball. I think we’ve got depth, so I think we’ll be all

The lineup will have a different look this spring, and even after back-to-back losses against quality pitchers from Bolingbrook and Plainfield South on Monday and Tuesday dropped the Hornets to 2-2 on the season, Hoel said the Hornets’ offense should be consistent throughout the season. we’ve had in a long time,” Hoel said. “We’ve got eight or nine guys who can really run, so we’re looking forward to putting some pressure on teams with that.” After winning back-to-back West Suburban Gold titles, the Hornets went 12-6 in the league and finished second last spring. In what seems to be a wide-open race, finishing atop the Gold is one of the big goals. “One of our goals is always to compete for the conference title,” Hoel said. “We think we have a legitimate chance to win it. We think we have as good a chance as anybody.”
Break could boost Hinsdale Central girls soccer By JASON ROSSI jrossi@shawmedia.com HINSDALE – There is no such thing as an all-star break in high school girls soccer. Hinsdale Central has the next best thing. Following a 4-0 win against Lane Tech on Saturday, the Red Devils are in the midst of a nine-day break in action before facing Glenbard West on Tuesday. “It’s a good break for our varsity players to settle down and relax because April is a busy month,” Central head coach Michael Smith said. “It’s good to rest up now because we have a conference

All 11 players are part of the defensive effort, and Smith said as part of that effort the coaching staff is tracking the number of intercepted passes Red Devil forwards are tallying each game. “The fact that we’re scoring goals is a positive. Last year we struggled to score goals,” Smith said. “We learned against Naperville North that we have to change a few things, but we know there are no state titles won in March, so we’re not going to allow a tough game against a strong opponent to effect us.”
BLOOMINGTON – Dylan Boye capped his indoor track and field season with a highlight Saturday and paved the way for success during the upcoming outdoor season. Competing at the Illinois Top Times indoor meet at Illinois Wesleyan University, the Hinsdale South junior won the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 0.5 inches. Boye’s jump Saturday was more than 6 inches better than the 21-6.25 that won him the title at the West Suburban Gold meet March 20 and was 3 inches better than his indoor season best. The Hornets start their outdoor season April 11 at the Hinsdale Central relays.
BOYS TENNIS Hinsdale Central The Red Devils lost a semifinal against Wiregrass Ranch [Fla.] at the DecoTurf Team Championships but rebounded with a win against Spartansburg [S.C.] for third place in the tournament hosted in Chattanooga, Tenn., that featured the top high school from across the country. Central heads south to take part in the Tiger Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Edwardsville. Edwardsville was the only other Illinois team to take part in the DecoTurf Team Championships.
BOYS GYMNASTICS Hinsdale South Kwame Lipscomb and Adrian Siaw both had topfive finishes on floor exercise at the Lake Park invite Saturday to help the Hornets score a 122.550 and finish fourth as a team. Lipscomb was second on floor (9.0) and Siaw fifth (8.650) for South’s best solo finishes. On vault, Lipscomb [fifth, 8.90] just edged Siaw [sixth, 8.50]. Siaw was sixth on parallel bars and Lipscomb fifth on the horizontal bar.
