Block Party. An opportunity for residents to come downtown and enjoy their hometown and win a Block Party for themselves and 50 of their neighbors. All week Geneva merchants, restaurants and eateries open their doors to visitors and offer something special. The evening partying begins at 7:30 p.m. when Mike & Joe, takes Central Stage. Free musical entertainment will be offered Tuesday – Saturday at the stage throughout Swedish Days. Each day the music scene changes in downtown Geneva. Bring a chair or lawn blanket and enjoy an unforgettable five days of music!
It wouldn’t be summer in Geneva without the “Granddaddy of Illinois Festivals,” Geneva Chamber of Commerce’s 63rd Annual Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health. June 19 kicks off this six day festival that continues through June 24. “This fest that is a summer classic. New events like “Geneva’s Got Talent” and Sweden Väg will add a fresh spin to some of the traditions. The volunteers, the parade participants and the food vendors come back each year to create six days of fun. We thank everyone involved for helping our hometown festival, an event we can be proud of,” says Jean Gaines, president of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. Most of the festivities take place on South Third Street, just south of State Street (Route 38) in downtown Geneva and admission is free. The festival also is accessible via Metra’s Union Pacific West Line; Geneva’s train station is on South Third Street just blocks from the hub of activities. Kick off this year’s celebration Tuesday with the carnival, quad power jump, Swedish Cinema ön State and in the evening, a Community
Every day kids can create masterpieces and participate in activities designed just for them, culminating with a day dedicated to all things kids, Kids’ Day on Friday. New events join old traditions at Geneva’s BIG fest Bringing the Swedish back to Swedish Days Sweden Väg debuts on Saturday, June 23 and continues on Sunday, June 24. The Väg, meaning path or way, will take place on North 4th Street between State and Hamilton. Purchase Swedish inspired art, taste Swedish delicacies like limpa bread, potato sausage, ligonberry sundaes and of course meatballs. Invite your buddies to a game of Kubb or Skype with friends from Sweden. Join interactive storyteller Paddy Lynn as she tells of Swedish folklore and much more. You may even catch a glimpse of Pippi Longstocking.

Marshaled by the Viking Service Organization and coordinated by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, the parade steps off at 1 pm. Sunday, June 24, and winds through downtown Geneva. Leading off the parade will be the Grand Parade Marshal.
The parade path starts from the high school area at Center Street and Anderson Boulevard and continues south on Anderson turning east onto State Street. In the center of town the march will continue south on Third Street and disband at the Metra train station. Parade programs will be handed out by parade ambassadors from the Cultural Arts Commission.

Stage is set for musical feast Summertime and great music are perfect companions to the Swedish Days Festival presented by Cadence Health. Pop, Motown, Classic Rock and even music from Swedish phenomenon ABBA –all have a place on this year’s slate of artists. The live music can be enjoyed in two spots — on the Central Stage and the Courthouse lawn both located on Third Street. Performances run Tuesday through Saturday, June 19-23, during the festival. Again this year the superb talent of Richard Peck from R/J Recording and Sound will provide the sound and lights for Central Stage located directly across from the front of the historic Kane County Courthouse.
Tuesday evening At 7:30 p.m. welcome back Mike & Joe proudly presented by Inland Bank. The vocal four-piece cover band performs alternative and modern rock music from the ‘90s through today. Mike & Joe have successfully pleased more festival audiences than most bands in the country. With a new set list for every performance, the excitement level Tuesday evening on Third Street will be contagious.
Wednesday evening Wednesday’s Central Stage entertainment will begin at 5:30 p.m. as the Swedish American Children’s Choir takes the stage to perform songs from Sweden with sweet sounding voices. The group is Illinois’ largest Swedish Children’s Chorus for ages 5-14. At 6:30 the semifinalists from “Geneva’s Got Talent” will perform. Cheer on these talented individuals and help carry your favorite to the Saturday night finals, by voting on Facebook. Stick around after, for some “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo” as ABBA Salute closes out our Wednesday night entertainment. The music of ABBA comes to life in a Las Vegas type show that mesmerizes the viewer, both young and old alike. Starting at 8 p.m. enjoy the recreated ABBA experience that won’t soon be forgotten.

And don’t leave without a picture, from the photo booth, to remember your trip to Sweden Väg. Many activities are free, fee for some. A Legacy of Family Fun on Sunday, June 17 For 101 continuous years the Swedish Midsommar Festival has been offering up a smorgasbord of family entertainment and cultural activities, including music, dance, and the largest maypole celebration in the country. Located in Good Templar Park on Geneva’s East Side Drive, the 101st Annual Swedish Midsommar Festival celebrates the traditions and accomplishments of Americans of Scandinavian heritage. Returning to the festival this year will be the popular interactive group seen on America’s Got Talent - Those Funny Little People. Other festival favorites who will perform include the Nordic Dancers of Chicago, the Viking Living History Encampment, the Swedish American Children’s Choir, Magic Dave, Ernie Sandquist, the Swedesong Girl’s Ensemble, and Marguerite Karl, Swedish soprano. There will be pony rides, games for children and families, crafts, and a non-denominational worship service.
And food to feast in Valhalla on! The day begins at 10 am with two traditional Swedish breakfasts – either the Swedish pancake breakfast or the Swedish herring breakfast. Other food includes Swedish meatball dinners, delicious traditional pastries, plenty of Swedish coffee, and American fare for the kids. Traditionally a Swedish Father’s Day event (to celebrate the longest day of the year), the 101st Swedish Midsommar Festival in located at Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Drive, in historic Geneva, IL. Admission is $5.00 for adults and youth over twelve years. Children 12 and under are free. Parking is free. People in Traditional Scandinavian Folk costumes will also be admitted free. Tours of the charming Swedish cottages or stugas that dot the 60 acre park will take place throughout the day for an additional fee. There also will be tours of the 1893 Viking Ship for $3.00. This fee goes to the Viking ship preservation fund. The Viking ship was Norway’s contribution to Chicago’s Columbian Exposition, and sailed across the Atlantic and through the Great Lakes to Chicago, handily beating the fastest sailing ships of the era.
