Summer is ending, but fall fun has just begun
Just because the summer – and all of the associated community summer festivals – is drawing to a close does not mean the fun stops in our neck of the woods. Around here, fall just means that style of fun changes for the season. Read through the rest of these pages, and you will see just what we mean.
St. Charles
St. Charles Scarecrow Fest One of St. Charles’ signature events, the annual Scarecrow Fest began in the mid-1980s with just a few entries in a scarecrow-making contest in Lincoln Park. From those early days to today, the festival has grown into a nationally recognized three-day festival that draws more than 100,000 people into town during the Columbus Day weekend. While the festival has grown and incorporated many events and ways to entertain, event organizers have not forgotten the reason behind the festival – scarecrows. In fact, the contest itself, and a Make Your Own Scarecrow station, remain key parts of the event. The 2018 festival is organized by Greater St. Charles, Illinois CVB in partnership with Ravenswood Event Services and JMF Events.
Scarecrow displays Attendees can vote for their favorite scarecrows in each of the many categories. Ballots are available at the Meijer Zone Information Booth, and voters can make their picks on Friday and Saturday, 10 am to 9 pm, and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
Make Your Own Scarecrow Families and attendees of all ages are invited to make their own contribution to the festival at the Filling Station and Municipal Zone. Supplies are available, although you may bring your own as well. The station will be open on Friday from 11 am to 4 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
Autumn on the Fox Arts & Crafts Show More than 150 vendors will feature their handmade items north of the Municipal Zone along the Riverwalk in Pottawatomie Park, on Friday and Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm.
Carnival As the festival has grown, so has the entertainment, and a fullfledged carnival awaits on 2nd and Cedar streets, on Thursday, 6 to 10 pm, Friday and Saturday noon to 10 pm, and Sunday 11 am to 6 pm.
Entertainment on the stage A wide variety of entertainment options are on hand at various locations throughout the festival.
