FAMILY FUN IN ELBURN
Give a roar of applause for the Elburn Lions Club’s annual festival, scheduled for Aug. 19-21

Helping great causes while having tons of fun with family and friends is what makes the annual Elburn Days the type of event that gets the circle treatment on many calendars. The annual Elburn Days Festival, which is the largest fundraising event for Elburn Lions Club, is scheduled Aug. 19-21 at Lions Park. “Every dime goes to help charities,” says Stacy Groesch, event coordinator for the Elburn Lions Club. “These are all volunteers so when you come to Elburn Days to have a good time, you are helping the charities.” This year’s theme is “Elburn Lions Soar to the Skies for Eyes,” so without giving away anything, Groesch hints attendees should look for aerial surprises amongst the regularly scheduled fun —carnival rides, mud volleyball, truck and tractor pulls, 4-H activities and much more. What’s more is that many of the activities and events at the festival are provided free of charge. “It’s great to offer family fun that’s affordable,” Groesch says. “While you’re paying for carnival rides and food, there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy the festival without having to spend any money, and when you do, you know it’s all going back to the Lions Club and going to help others.” Things have certainly changed in the world since the early years of the festival in the 1930s, and that includes some of the best prizes. While one lucky attendee, who had just had electricity installed at their home, won an RCA Radiola Model 80 radio at one of the first Elburn Days festivals, the prizes are much more extravagant today. This year, someone will win their choice of a 2022/2023 Chevy car or truck from Bob Jass Chevrolet or receive $30,000 in cash. Festivalgoers will have a variety of fun and daring carnival rides to get their thrills on and plenty of great food options. In addition to sweet corn, hot dogs, brats, burgers, hot pretzels, ice cream, root beer floats and more, Lion Phil Gladd’s famous pulled pork sandwiches once again will have hungry attendees licking their fingers.
