He’s got the whole world in his hands. In the much-anticipated third season of the expansive fantasy series “The Wheel of Time,” premiering Thursday, March 13, on Prime Video, the Dragon Reborn contends with dark threats against the light as the last battle looms on the path ahead.
The first three episodes of the new season will be available to stream on premiere day, with new episodes following each week. The season wraps up with a thrilling finale on Thursday, April 17.
Once simply a shepherd from the village of Emond’s Field, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski, “Gran Turismo,” 2023) has proven himself to be the prophesied Dragon Reborn, a powerful figure with the ability to either save the world from the Dark One or break it again.
Rand was discovered by Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike, “Saltburn,” 2023), an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, a matriarchal order committed to protecting humanity and healing it from the devastation brought on by the last Dark One. Broken by men, the world has been repaired by the women of the order, but now the future is out of even their powerful hands.
This season, Moiraine and Rand, tragically tethered in every timeline that lies ahead of them, must face an agonizing reality.
“I have seen a thousand thousand futures. In every future where I lived, Rand dies,” Moiraine narrates over a montage of possible ends in the official teaser trailer for the upcoming season. “The only way he lives is if I don’t,” she makes very clear.
The future of humanity rests on Rand’s survival and the choice he must make between darkness and light. As he grows stronger, the darkness begins to turn his head away from the light and his allies, Moiraine and Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine
Long shadow of the past Darkness encroaches in new season of ‘The Wheel of Time’
Madden, “Pine Gap”).
Per Prime Video, “These powerful women, who started the series as teacher and student, must now work together to prevent the Dragon from turning to the Dark ... no matter the cost.”
Those who crave power are just as interested in Rand as those who want humanity to flourish.
Also starring in “The Wheel of Time” are Daniel Henney (“Criminal Minds”) as al’Lan Mandragoran; Zoe Robins (“Black Christmas,” 2019) as Nynaeve al’Meara; Marcus Rutherford (“Funny Woman”) as Perrin Aybara; Donal Finn (“Rogue Heroes”) as Mat Cauthon; Ceara Coveney (“Young Wallander”) as Elayne Trakand; Kate Fleetwood (“Scoop,” 2024) as Liandrin Guirale; Natasha O’Keeffe (“Peaky Blinders”) as Lanfear; Ayoola Smart (“Juliet, Naked,” 2018) as Aviendha; and Kae Alexander (“Collateral”) as Min Farshaw.
Joining the cast this season are Isabella Bucceri (“Finally Me,” 2023) as Faile Bashere, a Saldaean relic hunter; Nukaka Coster-Waldau (“Agent”) as Blair, a wise elder member of the Taardad Aiel; Salome Gunnarsdottir (“Pennyworth”) as Melaine, a Wise One of the Taardad Aiel with mystical powers; Bjorn Landberg (“Unter uns”) as Taardad Aiel clan chief Rhuarc; and Synnove Macody Lund (“Ragnarok”) as Melindhra, a Malkieri raised by the Taardad Aiel.
Based on the bestselling fantasy book series of the same name, this latest season jumps into the fourth installment, “The Shadow Rising,” by author Robert Jordan. The visual manifestation of the magical powers rendered by the series’ characters has more than lived up to readers’ imaginations, with the show having been nominated for a BAFTA in 2024 for visual effects.
Expanding on the already incredible sets and effects of its first two seasons, the official trailer for the upcoming season highlights the terrifying beauty of the “Wheel of Time” world. The White Tower is being literal-
ly and figuratively torn apart, Moiraine conjures power in a desolate desert and battles are waged over all kinds of terrain.
In a description from Prime Video, the upcoming season “will take viewers to many new regions and cities across the fictional continent of the Westlands, including the vast deserts of the Aiel Waste, the intoxicating and dangerous port city of Tanchico, and the forbidden
and fog-shrouded ancient city of Rhuidean, where Rand and Moiraine will both experience life-changing revelations.”
The action-packed season is split between a journey toward open-ended prophecy fulfillment and the wars that are waged as a result. “We don’t win battles with politics and prophecies. We win with armies,” Alanna Mosvani (Priyanka Bose, “Lion,” 2016)
preaches in the official trailer. Meanwhile, Moiraine receives torturous visions in the rings.
“The Wheel of Time” book series, initially authored by Jordan then by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s passing in 2007, rivals J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” for the title of most beloved fantasy epic. The series has sold over 90 million copies since its first book, “The Eye of the World,” was pub-
lished in 1990. Known for their doorstopper length, the series includes 14 installments, a prequel and three companion books, and its popularity has inspired comics; card, video and role-playing games; and even a soundtrack.
Don’t miss the continuation of the epic story of “The Wheel of Time” when its third season premieres Thursday, March 13, on Prime Video.

Stars on screen
By Michelle Rose TV Media
Get back: Fresh off filming the second season of Netflix’s “Wednesday,” actress Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Chicago,” 2002) has signed on to star in an upcoming revenge thriller series.
The Oscar, BAFTA and Tony Award winner is starring in and producing “Kill Jackie” (working title) for Fremantle and Steel Springs Pictures, with streaming and distribution rights split between them and Prime Video.
Co-written by Conor Keane (“North Sea Connection”) and showrunner Tom Butterworth (“Britannia”), with Damon Thomas (“Killing Eve”) set to direct, “Kill Jackie” is an adaptation of the 2018 novel “The Price You Pay” by Aidan Truhen (a pseudonym of Nick Harkaway).
There is a twist: the novel’s male lead has been replaced by a female lead for TV, as you can guess from this casting news.
As cameras are scheduled to roll this month, Zeta-Jones is playing the role of Jackie Price, who, according to the official description, “has lived a wealthy, luxurious existence for the last 20 years — traveling the world, selling fine art using sophisticated tax loopholes and, above all, trying to stay anonymous after escaping a dangerous past as an international
cocaine dealer.” As you’d expect from a story about someone running away from their past, things take a sudden turn “when she discovers The Seven Demons, a squad of the world’s most terrifying hitmen, have been hired to kill her.”
“I’m thrilled to be a part of ‘Kill Jackie’ (w/t) both behind and in front of the camera,” Zeta-Jones said in a statement. “The opportunity to bring this multifaceted character to life, and explore a female-driven plot that encompasses empowerment, identity and redemption, is something I’m looking forward to.”
“I loved Nick’s gonzo thriller of a book,” added Butterworth. “Our ambition is to twist and expand his world into something equally funny, dark, crazed and unique. Or die trying.”
“When I first got my hands on Nick’s novel, I knew this project needed a team of creatives who shared a dark sense of humor and a touch of madness to bring this crime caper to life,” said executive producer Peter Lawson (“John Wick,” 2014) of Steel Springs Pictures. “We’re thrilled to have found that in the captivating creative force of Catherine ZetaJones, the character-driven hilarity of writer Conor Keane and showrunner Tom Butterworth, and the sure-handed brilliance of director Damon Thomas.”

Closing the ‘Book of Gemstone’ McBride’s
dark televangelist comedy ends after four seasons
Screen Scramble
By Dana Simpson TV Media
Those who worship the Family Gemstone will be happy to hear the good news: they are back at the pulpit again. Donning their best, sparkliest apparel — and, from the looks of the trailer, some feathered angel wings to boot! — the snazzy, southern televangelists return for one final installment of their HBO comedy series as spring arrives. Season 4 of “The Righteous Gemstones” premieres Sunday, March 9, on HBO and Max.
A dark, religion-centered comedy, “The Righteous Gemstones” was conceived by Danny McBride and his industry friends when they moved back to Charleston, South Carolina, in 2017. An American actor and filmmaker best known for the baseball comedy series “Eastbound & Down,” the so-called “stoner comedy” “Your Highness” (2011) and most recently for contributing to John Carpenter’s Halloween franchise as a writer, McBride was born in Statesboro, Georgia, and grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia. And although televangelists existed in his periphery as a child, the multitalented actor says the intricacies and illegalities surrounding much of that world only became apparent to him in adulthood.
“I grew up going to church every Sunday, so I’d been to church for years and years of my life,” McBride told CNN near “The Righteous Gemstones’” Season 2 release in 2022. “I know the Bible, I know all the apostles and I know all the stories, and it was a big part of my childhood growing up. ... And when I moved back to Charleston, I saw all the churches here and it just really kind of got me thinking about church again.”
The series follows the Gemstones, a family who has gained wealth, status and (possible) salvation by way of their world-famous megachurch in the southern United States. Dedicating their lives to swindling, scamming and preaching the Lord’s word in all manner of ridiculous ways, the Gemstones are quite contrarian in their approach: greedy but charitable, cutthroat but kindhearted.
At the head of the Gemstone family dynasty is Dr. Eli Gemstone, played by Primetime Emmy-winning actor John Goodman (“Rosanne”). The founding father and former head pastor of Gemstone Ministries, Eli is expected to spend much of the series’ fourth and final season aboard his boat as he tries to find the best way forward following the events of Season 3.
“We meet [Eli] in a much, much different place than we’ve ever seen him in seasons past,” McBride told GQ in a January 2025 interview. “He’s definitely going through some things in his life and trying to figure out how to take the next steps into whatever lays ahead for him, but because he’s a Gemstone and because his kids are psychopaths, that will not be as easy as it should be.”
Speaking of his psychopath children, Jesse, Kelvin and Judy are played by McBride, Adam Devine (“Workaholics”) and Edi Patterson (“Knives Out,” 2019), respectively. While Jesse, the eldest of Eli’s adult children, has taken on the bulk of the pastoral duties at Gemstones Ministries, his temper and foul mouth have yet to be impacted by his preaching.
Kelvin and Judy, meanwhile, often play second fiddle to Jesse’s brash and boisterous personality. Whereas Kelvin’s inability to be taken seriously is largely due to his being the baby of the family, his liberal sexuality also works to ostracize him from his conservatively minded kin. Judy is also often overlooked as she is the immediate family’s only woman, but her inadvertent camouflage may also
be a side effect of middle child syndrome.
Of course, other familiar faces will be returning in for the series’ last season, including Walton Goggins (“Justified”) as Baby Billy Freeman, who this season is launching his own TV venture called “TeenJus,” a young adult show about a teenaged Jesus Christ; Tony Cavalero (“School of Rock”) as Keefe Chambers, who has a closer bond than ever with Kelvin in Season 4; Tim Baltz (“Shrink”) as Judy’s husband, BJ; and Cassidy Freeman (“Smallville”) as Amber, Jesse’s faithful wife and mother to his three sons: Gideon (Skyler Gisondo, “The Resort”), Pontius (Kelton DuMont, “Logan,” 2017) and Abraham (Gavin Munn, “Raising Dion”).
Greg Alan Williams (“Greenleaf”), Jennifer Nettles (“The Exorcist: Believer,” 2023), James DuMont (“Jarassic World,” 2015), Jody Hill (“Vice Principals”), Troy Hogan (“Friday Night Lights”) and Valyn Hall (“The Internship,” 2013) also return, while Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace”), Seann William Scott (“Shifting Gears”) and Arden Myrin (“Insatiable”) join the cast as the Milsap family.
As for how he plans to close out the final season of his third series (“Eastbound & Down” and “Vice Principals” being the other two), McBride told GQ: “We take some massive swings this season with some stuff I don’t think the audience is going to see coming, and I’m very excited to see how it plays.”
Don’t miss what HBO calls the “final chapter in the Book of Gemstone” when Season 4 premieres Sunday, March 9, on HBO and Max.

The cooking competition series “Top Chef,” which has won James Beard, Critics Choice and Emmy awards, celebrates the Great White North during an all-new season as “Destination Canada” makes its debut Thursday, March 13, on Bravo.
Hosted by Kristen Kish (“Fast Foodies”) — who will be joined by staple judge Tom Colicchio (“Tom Colicchio’s the Pantry”), and visiting, Canadian judge Gail Simmons (“Star Plates”) — this season will see 15 talented chefs competing for the highly coveted “Top Chef” title, using their skills to highlight “the diverse and vibrant culinary scenes and ingredients of our neighbors to the north” (per NBC) as they travel across Canada — visiting top locations
such as Toronto; Calgary, Alberta; Montreal; Banff, Alberta; and Prince Edward Island — and fight for a chance to win the largest prize package in the show’s history.
As NBC Universal describes, “[The] cheftestants must show off their creativity and skills as they battle it out in a range of challenges across our northern neighbor, showcasing Canada’s tapestry of flavors and diverse landscapes from the nation’s boreal forests, sun-drenched deserts and windswept prairies to the icy tundra, rugged coastlines and serene farmlands. From creating a dish best served cold in honor of the nation’s favorite sport, hockey, to embracing Toronto’s vibrant mosaic of cultures, the chefs are put to the test and must be at the top of their game to stay in the kitchen.”
Along the way, the cooks will
be joined by a slate of “Top Chef” mentors, including past winners, finalists and fan-favorite contestants, who freely lend their expertise to players needing a helping hand. Richard Blais (“Next Level Chef”), Nina Compton (“Ugly Delicious”), Danny Garcia (“Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”), Ali Ghzawi (“Expedia’s Super Supper Club: Jordan”) and Spike Mendelsohn (“Late Nite Chef Fight”) are all set to appear throughout the season, alongside some Canadians well known for their work outside of the kitchen, such as guest judges Michael Cera (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” 2010) and Sarah Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”), who dive into dishes featuring Canada’s favorites — poutine and maple syrup.
Produced by Magical Elves, Season 22 of “Top Chef” brings a northern twist, premiering Thursday, March 13, on Bravo.

WHAT’S NEW ON AMC+
“Dark Winds” - Season 3
A new case is blowing in with Season 3 of “Dark Winds” streaming Sunday, March 9, on AMC+. Created by Graham Roland (“Mile 22,” 2018) and based on the “Leaphorn & Chee” novel series by Tony Hillerman, this crime drama transports viewers back to the 1970s as it follows Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon, “Into the West”) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon, “The Red Road”). Season 3 picks up six months after the Season 2 finale, as the disappearance of two boys — who left nothing but an abandoned bicycle and blood-stained patch of ground behind — rocks their town. As Leaphorn and Chee take on the case, Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten, “Rez Ball,” 2024) attempts to settle into her new job with the Border Patrol 500 miles from home — until she stumbles across a far-reaching conspiracy. The new season also stars A Martinez (“Longmire”), Jeri Ryan (“Star Trek: Voyager”), Jenna Elfman (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Bruce Greenwood (“The Resident”), Raoul Max Trujillo (“Mayans M.C.”), Tonantzin Carmelo (“NCIS: Origins”), Alex
Meraz (“Landman”), Terry Serpico (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), Derek Hinkey (“American Primeval”), Phil Burke (“Hell on Wheels”) and Christopher Heyerdahl (“Under the Banner of Heaven”).
WHAT’S NEW ON NETFLIX
“The Electric State” (2025) Furbys are nothing compared to the rest of the robots in the new sci-fi adventure film “The Electric State,” premiering Friday, March 14, on Netflix. Set in an alternate version of the ‘90s, the film follows Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown, “Stranger Things”), an orphaned teenager attempting to navigate life in a society “where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising” (per Netflix). But everything Michelle thought she knew about the world gets flipped upside down when she is visited by a sweet, mysterious robot named Cosmo (voiced by Alan Tudyk, “Resident Alien”), who seems to be controlled by her brother, Christopher (Woody Norman, “Poldark”), who Michelle believed to be dead. Desperate to be reunited with her brother, Michelle sets out across America with a rag-tag group that includes Cosmo, a smug-
gler named Keats (Chris Pratt, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” 2014) and Keats’ robot sidekick, Herman (Anthony Mackie, “Twisted Metal”). “As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own,” says Netflix, “Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.” Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (“Avengers: Endgame,” 2019), “The Electric State” is based on the illustrated novel of the same name by Simon Stalenhag, with a screenplay by “Agent Carter” co-creators Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. The film’s star-studded cast also includes Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All at Once,” 2022), Stanley Tucci (“Conclave,” 2024), Jason Alexander (“Seinfeld”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), Woody Harrelson (“White House Plumbers”) Brian Cox (“Succession”), Jenny Slate (“Bob’s Burgers”) and Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”).
“Adolescence”
One family’s trying reality plays out in the British miniseries “Adolescence,” premiering Thursday, March 13, on Netflix. With each episode “filmed in one unflinching and continuous shot” (per Netflix), the crime drama follows along as 13-year-old Jamie Miller (newcomer Owen Cooper) is accused of murdering one of his schoolmates. As Jamie’s family — and his father, Eddie (Stephen Graham, “Bodies”), in particular — grapple with this harrowing new reality, law enforcement, led by DI Luke Bascombe (Ashley Walters, “Top Boy”), searches for answers. Meanwhile, Briony Ariston (Erin Doherty, The Crown”), the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case, attempts to get through to the boy. Co-created and written by Graham and Jack Thorne (“His Dark Materials”), “Adolescence” is directed by Philip Barantini (“Boiling Point,” 2021). Faye Marsay (“Game of Thrones”), Christine Tremarco (“The Gathering”), Mark Stanley (“Happy Valley”), Jo Hartley (“Eddie the Eagle,” 2015) and newcomer Amélie Pease also star.
“Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney” Known for his performances in everything from stand-up comedy specials such as “John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch” (2019), to voice acting in “Big Mouth,” to dramas such as “Dickinson” and “The Bear,” John Mulaney’s talents have taken him to every corner of the entertainment world. Now, he takes on the talk show realm with the premiere of the live variety talk show “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney,” premiering Wednesday, March 12, on Netflix. As Mulaney hosts, co-showruns and executive produces the series, this followup to his “Everybody’s in L.A.” special promises to provide side-splitting laughs, special celebrity guests and fun musical performances, all held together with Mulaney’s signature sense of humor. Alongside Mulaney, the series is executive produced by Ashley Edens (“Dancing with the Stars”).
WHAT’S NEW ON PEACOCK
“Long Bright River”
Crime gets personal in Peacock’s limited suspense thriller series “Long Bright River,” premiering on the streamer Thursday, March 13. The eight-episode series centers on Mickey (Amanda Seyfried, “The Crowded Room”), a police officer working in Philadelphia. Patrolling a neighborhood that has already been hit hard by the opioid crisis, an already-desper-
ate situation gets worse when a series of murders begins to rock the area. Soon, Mickey realizes that her personal history could be closely tied to the case. From showrunner, writer, director and executive producer Nikki Toscano (“The Offer”), the series is based on the book of the same name by Liz Moore. Also starring are Nicholas Pinnock (“For Life”), Callum Vinson (“Chucky”), rapper OT The Real (“Kicked”), Patch Darragh (“Everything Sucks!”), Joe Daru (“All American: Homecoming”), Hannah D. Scott (“Orange is the New Black”) and Vaughan Reilly (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” 2023).

Q: I’ve been a committed viewer of “Pit Bulls & Parolees” since they started out in California. Will the show ever come back?
A: Unfortunately, it seems that “Pit Bulls & Parolees” is gone for good this time.
The Animal Planet (and later Discovery Channel) series was one of those reality shows that never really stuck to a regular schedule — sometimes more than a year would pass between seasons, sometimes only months.
It’s been off the air since 2022, after the end of its 19th season. But both the network and series star Tia Torres of the Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC), now based in Louisiana, have confirmed that it won’t be back for a 20th.
Discovery billed it as the “final season” ahead of its debut. Meanwhile, Torres took to the official VRC Facebook account to say that it was a “business thing” — the result of Discovery being bought by Warner Bros. and its schedule getting reorganized.
Fans can still follow Torres on a plethora of online platforms. In the same message where she announced the end of “Pit Bulls & Parolees,” she announced
she was launching her own “online network” to publish a range of content (so far there’s a podcast, a novel and a number of web series), at MyRabidReality.com.
It includes a web series called “Life With the Underdogs,” which promises to continue where “Pit Bulls & Parolees” left off.
Q: I’ve gotten into “Doom Patrol” but can’t figure out the voice of Robotman. Who’s the voice behind the mask?
A: The voice of Robotman was provided by none other than Hollywood great Brendan Fraser (“The Mummy,” 1999), in the midst of his headlinegrabbing renaissance.
He was a pretty big “get” for the show, even though in 2019, when “Doom Patrol” debuted, Fraser was at a trough in his career. He hadn’t had a lead in a major film in nine years at that point. At the time, his last big roles came in 2010 when he starred in the medical drama “Extraordinary Measures” and the family comedy “Furry Vengeance,” both of which flopped.
But while he was doing “Doom Patrol” he experienced a sudden professional revival, finally landing another bigscreen lead in 2022’s “The Whale,” and then winning his first Oscar for the effort.
So when “Doom Patrol” was canceled in 2023 after its fourth season, it must have been at least a bit of a relief to Fraser,
whose workload had by then ramped up considerably.
He had a role in the 2023 prestige drama “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and got an “and” credit on the 2024 comedy “Brothers” on Prime. Fraser now has two films in production, including the lead in the Japanese-set comedy “Rental Family,” now in postproduction. But more notably, he’s currently filming “Pressure,” playing former U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower in
He is still acting, but seemingly just when he feels like it or when he finds an interesting project. And they’re never leads these days.
However, there could be a pretty big exception to that. He’s reportedly in (early) talks to make a sequel to his cultclassic comedy “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” (1994).
He was one of the three leads in the Australian dragqueen comedy, alongside Hugo
Sudoku
the true-life drama about the lead-up to D-Day in the Second World War.
And he has two other films in development, as his post“Whale” demand continues. The most notable one is another historical project, “The Legend of William Tell,” in which he’ll play the titular archer and war hero.
Q: Is Terence Stamp still acting? I hoped “The Limey” would lead to more starring roles for him.
A: Great British leading man Terence Stamp (“Superman II,” 1980) is at the point in his career where he gets to be choosy.
Weaving (“The Matrix,” 1999) and Guy Pearce (“Memento,” 2000). It was Pearce who said, in an interview last month at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, that preliminary talks are underway.
But you’re right that “The Limey” (1999), the critically beloved neo-noir, seemed designed to launch the icon of ‘60s British cinema into a new phase of his career. It’s worth noting, though, that the concept of the movie was that he was an old man, past his prime — he was supposed to be an unlikely choice to lead an action movie. And it’s also worth pointing out that that was 26 years ago.
So instead of seeing Stamp toplining more prestige revenge dramas, we get to see Stamp adding gravitas as a supporting star.
See, for example, his turn as the nameless “silver-haired gentleman” (according to the production notes) in the 2021 horror film “Last Night in Soho,” or his appearance as a murdered billionaire in the 2019 comedy “Murder Mystery.”
In 2020, he did just a single episode of the HBO series “His Dark Materials,” an adaptation of the beloved British book series of the same name. It was, however, a crucial role in the show’s complicated mythology.
