WEEK IN REVIEW More resource officers for District 428 By KATRINA J.E. MILTON kmilton@shawmedia.com

DeKALB – DeKalb School District 428 is one step closer to bringing two more police school resource officers from the DeKalb Police Department to district schools starting next school year. On May 3, the DeKalb Board of Education voted, 4-1, to approve two school resource officers with the option of a third if needed for the 2022-2023 school year. Board member Jeromy Olson abstained from voting, board member Amanda Harness voted no and Board President Sarah Moses was absent. Board members Samantha McDavid, Ariel Owens, Deyci Ramirez and David Seymour voted yes. One officer would be stationed at DeKalb High School and the other would be stationed at Clinton Rosette and Hunt-

ley middle schools. The officer appointments won’t be finalized, however, until a DeKalb City Council vote is taken. Under the SRO intergovernmental agreement contract with the city and school district, District 428 would reimburse the city of DeKalb 75% of the total amount for the officer’s salaries and benefits, which total $130,821 per SRO including district-related overtime costs, documents show. The district’s 75% funding obligation totals $98,116 per SRO, records show. The school district also is expected to help pay for the DeKalb Police Department to buy three more police squad vehicles, a $36,000 cost, according to district documents. DeKalb Mayor Cohen Barnes attended the school board meeting and said he expected the DeKalb City Council to take up the vote on the SRO contracts and

police vehicles on May 9. If final approval is given, officers will begin the training process, said DeKalb Police Chief David Byrd, who also was in attendance. He said school resource officer training can take up to 10 weeks for police officers who’ve already been through traditional police academy. To fill positions that will be vacated by patrol officers who become SROs, new hires with the DeKalb Police Department would need to complete a 26-week training process before they can patrol solo, Byrd said. The school resource officer vote has been the topic of debate for weeks among the DeKalb school board and city officials. In previous conversations, school board members and Byrd have called the proposal “a Band-Aid approach” amid what district staff have reported as a rise in behavioral issues identified in schools.

Sycamore mulls residency requirements By SHANE TAYLOR

Staylor@shawmedia.com SYCAMORE – Sycamore city officials are considering lifting the city residency requirement for employees who aren’t first responders, a move city staff said is meant to address hiring challenges. The Sycamore City Council deliberated last week over a possible change to the city’s code that requires all employees live within 20 miles of city limits. According to city documents, city staff said the changes wouldn’t impact first responders or employees already under contract, such as City Manager Michael Hall, who confirmed May 2 that he does

live in Sycamore. Hall said the residency change would offer greater flexibility for hiring future city employees and require more detailed specifications be added to the city’s employee handbook. “It is for anybody that is not under union contract,” Hall said. “By contract, I do have to live within the city and that would not change.” Changes would also not apply to resident requirements outlined in the city’s collective bargaining agreements, documents show. Hall said the reason for the request comes as city staff members are looking to make a new hire in the finance department. “We have an assistant finance director

[candidate] that is 22 miles and he is an excellent candidate,” Hall said. “Of the four that we interviewed, he is head and shoulders above the rest.” Hall brought the proposal forward for council consideration this week, although changes will not be implemented until a council vote is taken at a future meeting. “What we would like to do is change it to say that this would be by policy,” Hall said. “Policies would be brought before the city council listing off what we would consider first responders, and then also listing off those areas like finance, secretaries, building maintenance, those sort of things we really don’t think require having a residency within 20 miles.”

krettke@shawmedia.com DeKALB – DeKalb city residents should prepare for major construction downtown this summer, as Lincoln Highway is reconfigured from four to three lanes, set for completion by Corn Fest in August. It’s been more than two years since the plans for Lincoln Highway were first brought to the DeKalb City Council. Since that time, the city has obtained permission from the Illinois Department of Transportation to move forward with the work, meant to curb speeding truck traffic in the area and encourage more pedestrians, city officials said. At its most recent meeting, the DeKalb City Council voted 6-0 to approve two contracts for the work, and a final permit through IDOT for the plan. Mayor Cohen Barnes abstained from the vote, since his business, Sundog IT, is located downtown, he said. “This is exciting,” Barnes said. “Years in the making.” With a reduction of four lanes to three, the middle lane would serve as a turning lane, according to city documents. A $1.76 million contract was approved with DeKalb-based Elliott & Woods Inc. for the construction plans. A second contract, for $124,925 was also approved with engineering consultant Fehr-Graham & Associates, based in northern Illinois. The engineering consultant has

been used regularly for city projects over the years, including most recently with street maintenance on First, Taylor and Seventh streets between 2019 and 2021, documents show. Plans also include updates to historic lighting, better signage, wide pedestrian-friendly walking spaces near interactions, more color and add-

ing electric components to permanent planters downtown to brighten special events. DeKalb City Manager Bill Nicklas said the city hopes to have work completed by the time DeKalb Corn Fest returns in August. He said residents and motorists should expect a significant impact to daily downtown life while the project is underway. “We’re about to embark on a major downtown reconstruction project, with vehicles in every block for the next couple of months,” Nicklas said. City staff said while the work is underway, steps will be taken in an effort to minimize business disruption and customer inconvenience along the downtown strip, while making sure the construction moves forward steadily. “[We’re] delighted with the possibility that we might be on the threshold of curing a problem that has been facing us since the late ‘70s, when we went to four lanes downtown,” Nicklas said. “In the last 15 years we’ve done some streetscaping downtown that has created some on-street parking...but it’s still a four-lane raceway. The fact that we have some very narrow sidewalks on either side also tends to diminish the interest of pedestrians strolling our downtown area.”

New breast milk dispensary supports health of moms and babies By KATRINA J.E. MILTON kmilton@shawmedia.com

S

YCAMORE – When Gretchen Sprinkle of Cortland was pregnant with her son about 5 years ago, she learned about the process of donating and receiving breast milk. After her son was born, she learned that she had an oversupply of breast milk and was producing more than her son would be able to drink. She decided to donate her excess breast milk to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital’s Breastfeeding Center in DeKalb, where it is distributed through Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. She has continued to donate her excess milk after breastfeeding her other two children. “It was such an easy process to get started, and I know of all the good that it can do,” Sprinkle said. “I drop off my excess breast milk every other month. It’s a great way to have tested, pasteurized milk available if breastfeeding is important to you.” Family First Women & Children’s Healthcare in Sycamore has partnered with the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes to serve as a breast milk dispensary, where pasteurized donor breast milk can be purchased. The dispensary will be located at Family First’s office at 2560 Hauser Ross Drive, Suite 425, in Sycamore. A grand opening event, free and open to the public, will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Family First. Both organizations will be present to celebrate the new dispensary, introduce staff and share information. Snacks and light refreshments will be provided. Amber Barnes, registered nurse and clinical manager of Mothers’ Milk Bank, said the partnership is a natural one. “Our missions both aim to support the health and nutrition of women and children,” Barnes said in a news release announcing the partnership. Dr. Karen Federici, owner of Family First, said that having a dispensary location in Sycamore will make much-needed breast milk more easily accessible. She said that there are no nearby in-person dispensary locations, with the closest

To donate breast milk, mothers must fill out a donor interest form online at www.milkbankwgl.org. The organization will reach out to schedule a 10-minute phone screening. If mothers are a candidate for donation, they will complete a donor application, which includes notes from their doctor and their baby’s pediatrician. The milk bank will arrange for blood testing at no cost to applicants. Once approved, mothers will be given a donor number. When donat-

ing, mothers pump their breast milk, freeze it at home in provided bags, and drop it off frozen at the hospital’s depot. The milk is then tested, pasteurized and pooled before being distributed to dispensaries. Donation requirements differ for mothers who donate after loss through a special bereavement program. For more information on the bereavement program, call 847-2625134. Up to 10 4-ounce bottles can be purchased at a time from the Family First dispensary without a prescription. Each 4-ounce bottle costs $20. For a larger need of breast milk, families can contact the milk bank and have the milk shipped directly to their home with possible insurance coverage. Appointments are not needed to stop by the dispensary, which will be open to the public. The milk has a shelf life of up to a year in the freezer. Directions of how

to store, thaw and feed your baby the milk is included with each purchase. Federici said breastfeeding has health benefits for both mothers and babies. “Breast milk helps decrease the risk of asthma, [Sudden Infant Death Syndrome], gastrointestinal issues, Type 1 diabetes and obesity in babies,” Federici said. “For mothers, breastfeeding improves their moods and lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, breast and ovarian cancer and postpartum depression.” Federici said that in addition to health benefits, breastfeeding is also more cost-effective. “Baby formula can cost up to $2,000 per year,” Federici said. “There are also baby formula recalls and shortages throughout the country.” Datasembly, which tracked baby formula stock at more than 11,000 stores, found that 40% to 50% of the top-selling baby formula products were out of stock at U.S. retailers as of the week ending April 24. “Having access to breast milk can really help, especially in the first few days after giving birth,” Federici said. “Some babies are sensitive to baby formula, which is made from cow’s milk. Introducing your baby to formula changes the good bacteria in their gut. Using a donor’s milk can help protect their gut that way.” As a mother herself, Federici said she wishes a breast milk dispensary was available when her children were babies. “When my first baby was born, she wouldn’t latch on, and as a mom, I was worried about feeding her,” Federici said. “Now she’s going to be 26, and I still think about how worried I was. Fortunately, I was able to pump enough.” “I think feeding their babies and keeping them healthy is something all parents worry about,” she said. “Families should know that help is available if needed.” For more information about donating breast milk through Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes, visit www.milkbankwgl.org. For more information about Family First Women & Children’s Healthcare’s breast milk dispensary, visit www.familyfirstdocs.com or call 815784-6300.

NIU Cares hosts community cleanup in DeKalb By SHANE TAYLOR

Staylor@shawmedia.com DeKALB – A communitywide cleanup in DeKalb gathered folks together April 29 through the Northern Illinois University Cares program to help pick up trash as part of a rescheduled Earth Day event. A volunteer group of NIU students took part in the community cleanup. The event was sponsored by NIU’s Student Involvement, Student Government Association and Outdoor Adventures, as well as the DeKalb Park District and city of DeKalb, Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District and local cleanup group Trash Squirrels. NIU Cares has grown from an annual day of service in the month of April to a yearlong campaign in spring 2021, which allows the university to expand beyond one event and spend the entire year caring for local communities. “NIU Cares Day is an April tradition, but obviously hasn’t happened the last two years during COVID,” said Meg Junk, chief of staff for the Division of Student Affairs and executive director for Student Involvement at NIU. 9 Traveling musicians from three DeKalb elementary schools entertained the student bodies of their three schools Thursday in a unique musical exchange program. Choral groups from Lincoln, Jefferson and Tyler schools were bused from one school to another, where they presented programs of popular and folk songs.

Although he has had a hard long, uphill fight, Jacob Haish today is able to sit up and view the grand outdoors, which is worth more to him than all the medicine that can be prescribed. Mr. Haish was taken ill several weeks ago with a severe cold, but is reported to be making slow recovery, and hopes soon to be able to get out on his porch within the next few days. DeKalb people will be glad to hear of Uncle Jacob’s improvement and will hope that it may continue.

At the May 8 meeting, the Cortland Town Board discussed the possibility of a crosswalk over the railroad tracks, connecting Nina Street on the north and south. Desire for such a crosswalk has been expressed by some parents of school-age children in the town. A large percentage of the children crossing Somonauk at Maple St., where there is a crossing guard, must cross back again, where there is no crossing guard, when they get to the north side of town. A walkway connecting Nina on the north and south and a crosswalk over the tracks would eliminate this.

The corps also played at the intersection in the business section before returning to their rooms. Thomas Murray says that the pulling power of Chronicle advertising is evidenced by the response to a little item in The Chronicle telling that he had four o’clock seed he would like to give away. He said the people were after the seed in throngs the next day. Unfortunately, Captain Murray forgot to inform Mrs. Murray about the matter and she was mystified when the first applicants arrived. A telephone call to the forgetful advertiser set the matter right, however, and a large quantity of the seed has been given away.

Fire, which was discovered shortly after 9 o’clock this morning, caused considerable damage to the garage and storage barn of the Milk Consumers Association at 1132 Pleasant St. The storage barn is located to the rear of the milk plant. The flames had a tremendous start when noticed and when the fire trucks arrived

were shooting high in the air as clouds of smoke covered the area. The fire started in the west end of the barn but spread rapidly and some difficulty was encountered in removing a horse from the building. A wagon in the barn was badly scorched and supplies stored in the barn were destroyed including cottage cheese and butter containers.

Dr. Raymond W. Herrmann of Shabbona was recently assigned to Savannah, Ga., where he will be assistant surgeon at the United States Marine Hospital there. He has been in service the past four years. It is expected that he will be at Savannah for the next two years. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Herrmann of Shabbona.

DeKalb County farmers were really “going to town” today in their efforts to catch up with long delayed farm work. Tractors were snorting in the fields on almost every farm in the county pulling disks, plows, seeders and fertilizing machinery.

Diamond Wire and Cable Company has purchased the Theodore Chanock property which comprises the piece of land that run parallel to Park Avenue on the west side to within 25 feet of Ottawa Street. The property is in the Patten’s addition. It will be used for the future expansion of the operations of the Sycamore plant. Although company officials did not specify for what operation it would be used for, it is expected that a wire drawing plant will be constructed on the site.

Yesterday, several hundred children of pre-school age were registered at DeKalb elementary schools. Although there were a large number registered, it is known that there are a number of parents who did not register their children born before May 8, 1947, and who have not as yet entered school. The purpose of the pre-school registration is to assist the schools in anticipating, not only the immediate needs, but also the needs during the next three or four years. The registration will make possible long-term planning. Ellwood had 213 children registered, Haish 162, Glidden 112 and McMurry 67 for a total of 354.

Protests in various forms continued today at Northern Illinois University following a night of demonstrating which included a two and a half hour stoppage of traffic on Lincoln Highway. This morning local police agencies and the Illinois State Police moved into an NIU office building and cleared students who had occupied the building over the night.

The yellow gleam of the Golden Arches may soon be visible in northern DeKalb County. Although officials at the Oak Brook-based fast food giant won’t comment on the possibility, Genoa Mayor Dave Rood said the company is allegedly looking to construct a restaurant/gas station combination on the east corner of Route 23 and 72. Now that the DeKalb Park District has unveiled its preliminary plans for a multimillion-dollar sports complex, the ultimate decision on if, when and where the facility will be built lies in the hands of the community. The question of whether to build a new county nursing home or remodel the existing one has been tentatively decided in favor of a new building. Four months of work has led the county’s Health Facilities Committee to the conclusion that a new home is the better option, particularly since the cost difference is minimal. While the numbers are still preliminary, total cost for a new county home and health department facility is estimated in the range of about $16 million. The difference between building a new facility and remodeling the existing site, however, is about $1 million, making the new building more attractive to the committee. – Compiled by Sue Breese

Compeer Financial presents KC $75,000 donation Shaw Local News Network MALTA – Kishwaukee College recently welcomed representatives from Compeer Financial for a check presentation and tour of the college’s greenhouse facilities. Kish received $75,000 through Compeer Financial’s Agriculture & Rural Initiative Grant to support technology improvements in the greenhouse. Last spring, the Kishwaukee College Foundation applied for the Agriculture & Rural Initiative Grant, and was one of six community colleges in Illinois to receive funding. Kish used the grant to purchase new cutting-edge equipment that will provide students the opportunity to learn and train on current tools they will use in the field. As many Compeer clients have noted, one of their biggest struggles on the farm is finding skilled and qualified workers. “Technology is changing in the horticulture industry,” Mark Ringhouse, financial officer for Compeer Financial in Sycamore, said in a news release. “To be on the front end of learning about this equipment will be great for these students as they seek employment. There is a huge need for qualified candidates.”

To support students in the completion of their education, Compeer also has committed $2,500 in scholarship support. Scholarships will be available annually through the Kishwaukee College Foundation. Kish faculty and students led a demonstration of the new equipment and a tour of the recently renovated greenhouse facilities. In addition to the $75,000 grant from Compeer for technology improvements, the college also received a $220,000 state grant from the Illinois Capital Development Board for the greenhouse renovations. The horticulture program offers specialized certificates in several fields, including floral horticulture, greenhouse and garden center, landscape design and plant ID, turf management, hemp and cannabis cultivation, and sustainable horticulture. Students also can build on one or several certificates to earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. In addition to horticulture, Kish offers several ag-related programs like agribusiness, precision agriculture and diesel power technology. To learn more about horticulture at Kish, visit kish.edu/horticulture. To learn more about Compeer Financial’s Agriculture & Rural Initiative, visit www.compeer.com.

Red Cross to honor nurse from Sandwich Shaw Local News Network The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago is honoring Sandwich resident Stephanie Esterland, BSN, RN, as this year’s Healthcare Hero at the organization’s 20th annual Heroes Breakfast. The event will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. May 11 at the Hilton Chicago. Esterland, an oncology nurse at Rush Cancer Center, was driving her son to work on a dark July 2021 morning when she came upon what she thought was a yard fire. Instead, she realized it was a blazing car fire that had just occurred when the driver slammed into a tree near Route 47 in the Sugar Grove area. Esterland saw someone trying to get out of the vehicle, and then falling to the ground near the flaming car. She jumped out of her car to help. While assessing the injured individual’s condition, she heard what sounded like fireworks. Concerned the vehicle may be on the verge of exploding, Esterland cautiously moved the individual away from the fire to a safer location and continued

rendering assistance until emergency responders arrived. She then dropped off her son and headed to work at Rush. Esterland has received a DAISY Stephanie nursing award Esterland from the Rush community for that act of bravery and the individual in the crash credits her with helping save his life. “Stephanie did not hesitate during an emergency and her quick actions likely saved a man’s life,” Celena Roldán, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross of Illinois, said in a news release. “Her instincts and skills as a medical professional made all the difference, and we are honored to be able to honor her at this year’s Heroes Breakfast.” An independent committee of leaders in the business and civic community selected honorees in 12 community service categories. A few days before her 105th birthday, World War II veteran Annetta Lusiak was recognized for her military service and was given a special wooden plaque and pin during a ceremony April 26 at Aperion Care DeKalb. She served in the Women’s Army Corps from Aug. 5, 1943, until her honorable discharge Nov. 27, 1945. her honorable discharge Nov. 27, 1945, in Fort Dix, New Jersey, where she ended her Army career as a corporal. Her military service was spent as a light duty truck driver where she drove ambulances and mail trucks after attending the Army’s motor transport school. While serving her country, she also received decorations and citations, including the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WAAC Service Ribbon and the American Service Medal. After her service, Lusiak and Gene had two children together, a daughter, Kathleen, who died in June 2020, and a son, Martin. The couple also had six grandchildren and six

great-grandchildren. Her family describes Lusiak’s life as one of adventure, which has included traveling by car, plane and train throughout most of the U.S., as well as a trip to Ireland years ago with her daughter. On her 80th birthday,

Lusiak took a hot air balloon ride. In her spare time, her family said, she enjoyed dressing and sewing handmade Native American dolls and other sewing projects, riding her bicycle, birdwatching, gardening and harvesting seeds, garage sales and fishing. She’s also known for spoiling her grandkids, watching “Wheel of Fortune” and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks, visiting with family and friends and cooking homemade meals. She always has had a love of animals and has had numerous pets, including dogs, birds and even squirrels. Before the military recognition ceremony April 26, Lusiak befriended a therapy dog that sat on her lap and gave her kisses. It’s her 105-year-old spirit that Lusiak’s family said continues to inspire. “Grammie always used to say, ‘What are we doing for excitement?’” Westlund said. “And those have been great words to live by.”

DeKALB – World War II veteran Annetta Lusiak has had life experiences many people will never have – a hot air balloon ride at 80, World War II military service, and last week, she turned 105. A few days before her May 2 milestone birthday, Lusiak was recognized for her military service and was given a special wooden plaque and pin during a ceremony. Lusiak’s granddaughter Jennifer Westlund of Colorado calls her grandmother “Grammie” and described her as a quintessential presence to her family. “My sister Sarah and I have incredibly fond and cherished memories of her and our grandpa for as long as we can remember,” Westlund said. “Grammie has inspired us with her spunk, sass, fierce independence and zest for silliness and fun, and we’re proud to have inherited those traits.” Lusiak’s military recognition ceremony took place at Aperion Care DeKalb, formerly Pine Acres of DeKalb, where she has been living since spring 2019. Born May 2, 1917, in rural Cumberland, Maryland, she’s the last surviving sibling among seven: four brothers and three sisters. Meghan Wilinski, senior community liaison of ProMedica Hospice, helped organize the military recognition and birthday event. Wilinski said the ceremony was touching and brought tears to her eyes. “She has seen and done so many things in her lifetime, and it is important for us to recognize her life, as well as her military service during World War II,” Wilinski said. “Everyone wishes her a very happy 105th birthday, and we thank her for her military service.” As a young woman, Lusiak worked as a textile machine operator in a factory for many years, her family said. In January 1944, she married Eugene Lusiak, and they spent the next 60 years together before his death in 2004. She met Gene in the U.S. Army during World War II, when they both served. Lusiak served in the Women’s Army Corps from Aug. 5, 1943, until

DeKalb grad, ISU soph fights brain tumor with support of former teammates, community By EDDIE CARIFIO

ecarifio@shawmedia.com Zach Russell thought the symptoms he was experiencing were those of a panic attack. So the 2020 DeKalb graduate and sophomore at Illinois State went to the doctor and found out they weren’t panic attacks. They were seizures caused by a brain tumor. In January, the former DeKalb basketball and baseball player underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor, and the school has honored him at baseball and basketball games with Hustle Russell shirts acting as a fundraiser for the family. “It’s been awesome, knowing where you come from and that people have your back,” Russell said. “All the coaches and teachers and students surrounding me and giving me support, it’s meant a lot, especially for me and my family.” On Saturday, the Barbs faced Sycamore in a doubleheader, with Russell throwing out the first pitch. In February, the basketball team held a Hustle Russell night in a game against Dixon. Russell said he was appreciative of the staff of both programs, as well as the school, athletic department and community for the support he has received. “Everybody said, ‘You’re the toughest kid I know, and you’re going to get through this,’” Russell said. “Ever since then, I haven’t given up faith, just fighting and keeping my spirits high.” Brad Kerkman, an assistant coach on the baseball and basketball teams during Russell’s time in DeKalb, said the Hustle Russell idea started simply as a combination rallying cry for the basketball team and show of support for their former teammate. But as people ended up expressing an interest in the T-shirts, he ended up spearheading the fundraiser and said he raised about $6,000 for Russell’s family. The fundraiser has since ended, and Russell said there is no online fundraiser currently set up for him and his family. “I got to know Zach really well,” Kerkman said. “He’s the type of kid that every day, day in and day out, gave you everything he had. He was a great representation of every program he was ever in. ... At first it kind of started we were going to honor Zach and get our varsity basketball kids to play with that Hustle Russell mentality, and then we kept getting more and more interest from people want-

The whole athletic department, school and community are behind him.” DeKalb athletic director Peter Goff said the athletic department was

happy to help out. “We talk about the One Barb family, and Zach is a great, great kid,” Goff said. “All-around good dude. Always would do what was best. And here’s the best thing: He’s not worried about himself, he’s worried about everybody else. He’s not the type of kid that likes all that attention. He’s such a humble kid. It’s unfortunate that this happened to him, but I think he realizes how much he is respected and loved at both DeKalb High School

and the community.” Russell said doctors removed the tumor Feb. 10. He said he has about a week and half of radiation treatment left – he’s making almost daily trips to Northwestern Medicine Proton Center in Warrenville for 15-minute sessions. About a month after the radiation treatment ends, he said, he’ll start a chemotherapy regimen, which will be a pill. “They did get all 100% of the tumor out, so that’s a good thing,” Russell said. “It’s a slow-growing tumor. It will come back eventually, but it may not be for another 20 or 30 years hopefully.” Russell put his education on hold for now. He said he’ll pick up in the fall at NIU instead of Illinois State to be closer to his doctors. This summer, he said he’s taking an internship with the Milwaukee Brewers in their executive sales division. He said the whole experience has taught him a lot of life lessons and a lot about his community. “You can never take a moment for granted,” Russell said. “I’ve learned a lot the last few months, and having so many people have my back, it’s meant a lot. It’s like sports: You get knocked down, you gotta get back up. That’s what coaches and everybody has taught me in DeKalb.”
