DeKalb library to host Safe Passage presentations

DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library will host a series of Safe Passage presentations on sexual assault and domestic violence prevention topics. The presentations will be held at noon Aug. 4 and 11 in the library’s lower-level Zimmerman Meeting Room, 309 Oak St., according to a news release.

The programs are free and intended for preteens, teens and adults.

Different age groups will receive separate presentations per topic. The topics include “Consent and Body Safety” and “Grooming 101.” No registration is required.

Grief support group to meet Aug. 8 and 22 at DeKalb library

DeKALB – The DeKalb Public Library will host two grief support meetings for those experiencing loss and grief.

The meetings will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 8 and 22 in the library’s lower-level Bilder Family Meeting Room, 309 Oak St., according to a news release.

The meetings are free and intended for adults.

Participants can join others experiencing loss and grief to receive support in a confidential and safe setting. Attendees can share grief experiences, learn about grief, and receive grieving process insight from peers and the group facilitator.

The group will be facilitated by a ProMedica Hospice bereavement coordinator. No registration is required. The support group doesn’t replace other mental health services. If you need individual counseling or other mental health services, call 815-3973691 or 211. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis or need immediate attention for a non-life-threatening mental health need, call 988. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911.

Highway registration rummage sales, bake sales, car washes, garage sales or business sales. Participants must provide their own yard and garage sale signage. Two price levels are available.

Participants who pay $10 will receive a listing with mapping. Those who pay $15 will receive an official yard sale sign and a listing with mapping. Sign-up forms are available. To register, visit illinoislincolnhighwayassociation.org.

The $10 patrons can submit the sign-up form and a check or money order via mail to the H.I. Lincoln Store and Lincoln Highway Interpretive Center, 136 N. Elm St., Franklin Grove. The registration deadline is Aug. 5. Registration for $15 participants is available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays or noon to 4 p.m. Sundays at the H.I. Sandwich Opera House to hold auditions for ‘Wizard of Oz’ SANDWICH – The Sandwich Opera House will host open auditions in August for its upcoming performances of “The Wizard of Oz” in November.

The auditions are scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 27 and 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 28, at the opera house, 140 E. Railroad St. in Sandwich, according to a news release.

The auditions are for ages 7 and older.

The show features 13 major speaking roles and several chorus roles. Auditions will consist of a cold reading from the script. Participants also must sing a song, preferably from the show. Support staff and crew volunteers also are being sought.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be directed by Jaye Morrison and Shelia Thompson, with musical direction by Nika Morton. Rehearsals begin Sept. 17 and are planned for Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
