Library to start Early Literacy Reading Program Algonquin Area Public Library District will start its Early Literacy Reading Program Monday with its 1,001 Books Before Kindergarten program. The 1,001 Books Before Kindergarten program was designed to get parents involved in reading to their children from birth and foster a lifelong love of reading as children gain

preliteracy skills. Families with children through age 5 can register for the program with their Algonquin Area Public Library card at the youth services desk beginning Monday. A library card is required for this program. For information, call the library at 847-458-6060 or visit www.aapld.org.

Recycle Christmas trees at area locations Christmas-tree recycling is available through Jan. 15 at three drop-off locations. Trees are processed into mulch. The mulch will be available for free at a later date. Drop-off locations are Glacial Park in Ringwood, Rush Creek in Harvard and the Algonquin Township building in Cary.

Faith in Action has volunteer opportunities to help local seniors The Faith in Action program is seeking volunteers. The program serves those age 60 and older who live in McHenry County, and helps seniors remain independent in their own home, provide the “gift of a lift” to a doctor’s appointment or other destinations, visit with a senior in their home to prevent loneliness,
