One exceptional young woman drives polite society mad on her journey to fulfill an unexpected destiny in “Renegade Nell,” premiering Friday, March 29, on Disney+.

Q: I heard that Katy Perry is going to leave “American Idol” after this season. Is there any chance she might change her mind?

A: Well, there’s always the potential for someone to change their mind about anything … but in making her announcement during an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” last month, she seemed to leave the door open for a possible return to “American Idol” someday “if (the producers will) have me.”

Perry will have done seven seasons on the talent competition as a judge — along with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, spanning the entirety of the program’s ABC run thus far — when the current Season 22 concludes, and she has indicated that she is working in new music. The show’s production schedule definitely involves a time commitment, with the judges having to go to different cities during the audition phase, then making sure they’re in Hollywood on a regular basis once the given season’s episodes are centered there.

If Perry were to return to “Idol” after leaving, it wouldn’t be the first time a judge has done that. Jennifer Lopez was a regular on the show during its earlier Fox era during Seasons 10 and 11, then she left for Season 12 but returned for Seasons 13, 14 and 15. Also, if Perry (who took a brief break from “Idol” last season) came back to the series, it wouldn’t necessarily be as a full-time judge … which might be more conducive to the schedule she apparently wants to get back to with her own music career. She could step back in as a guest mentor, a position that Jelly Roll and Tori Kelly are filling this season.

Sabres host Maple Leafs in final regular season matchup

The National Hockey League returns with more action in the East as the Toronto Maple Leafs head to Buffalo, New York, to take on the Buffalo Sabres in their final regular season matchup. The game airs Saturday, March 30, at the KeyBank Center, with the coverage broadcasting live on ESPN.

This season has been less than ideal for the Sabres, with the team sitting in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference standings going into April and their 13-year playoff drought potentially growing another year older. Additionally, expectations going into this season were much higher for the team, having just signed franchise all-star defenseman Rasmus Dahlin to a massive eight-year, $88-million contract extension.

While the Sabres sit outside of a playoff spot, the Swedish blueliner continues to prove his worth, as Dahlin finished ninth in goals amongst all defensemen — including a 73-point campaign in 78 games last season — and ended up eighth in the James Norris Memorial Trophy race. He also recorded the best defensive season of his career so far, with 45 takeaways, 102 hits and 132 blocked shots.

The offensively talented Maple Leafs, meanwhile, could use some improvement on their own blue line. This season, the Maple Leafs are firing on all cylinders with Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Morgan Reilly leading the way offensively, with Matthews entering the month of March with 53 goals. However, while the Maple Leafs can score with ease, keeping the puck out of the net has been a struggle as they hold a 3.16 goals-against average, with injuries to Mark Giordano not helping the cause.

As both teams are seemingly on opposite sides of the standings, look for the Sabres to come out swinging as Dahlin will surely be looking to shut down Matthews and the Maple Leafs’ offensive prowess.

The city never sleeps, but neither does Manhattan court judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch).

Daughter of the late Harry Stone (Harry Anderson), she does her best to continue her father’s legacy, running the courtroom with an iron fist (and a wooden gavel), leaving Dan (John Larroquette), Gurgs (Lauretta) and Olivia (India de Beaufort) to question if Abby will ever find order. The Season 2 finale of “Night Court” debuts Tuesday, March 26, on NBC, with episodes available at nbc.com/night-court/episodes

One exceptional young woman drives polite society mad on her journey to fulfill an unexpected destiny in “Renegade Nell,” an original historical adventure series premiering Friday, March 29, on Disney+. All eight episodes of the family-friendly fantasy series drop on the streamer on premiere day.

Nell Jackson, portrayed by “Derry Girls” star Louisa Harland, is a clever, brave woman who makes a name for herself as a highwaywoman in 18th-century England after she is framed for murder. Petty theft on the road keeps Nell afloat until she discovers she is destined for something beyond her wildest imagination. When powers enchant Nell, they make her even more of a force than she was on her own. A magical spirit appears to Nell in the form of Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed, “Ted Lasso”) to help her on her adventures — a sort of Tinker Bell-type fairy sidekick. Nell’s abilities to evade capture and survive on her own get her into as much trouble as they keep her out of. With seemingly everyone after her for one reason or another, Nell thrives as an outlaw possessed by magical powers that make her stronger, faster and more capable than she ever was before.

Also starring in “Renegade Nell” are Frank Dillane (“Fear the Walking Dead”) as Nell’s difficult, fair-weather friend, Charles Devereux; Adrian Lester (“The Undeclared War”) as the well-connected Earl of Poynton; Alice Kremelberg (“The Sinner”) as power-hungry Sofia Wilmot; and Joely Richardson (“The Sandman”) as oddball newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger. Rounding out the cast are Pip Torrens (“The Crown”) as Lord Blancheford, Jake Dunn (“Big Boys”) as Thomas Blancheford, Enyi Okoronkwo (“The Lazarus Project”) as Rasselas and Craig Parkinson (“Line of Duty”) as Nell’s father, Sam. Newcomers Bo Bragason and Florence Keen star as Nell’s younger sisters, Roxy and George.

No shirt, no shoes, no service? No problem. A photographer and an engineer are dropped, naked, alone, and without food, in the wilderness of Limpopo, South Africa, where they must survive the next fourteen days without any basic necessities of modern-day life. After ten days without food, however, the duo begins to question if they’ll make it to the end, prompting concerns during an all-new episode of “Naked & Afraid,” airing Sunday, March 24, on Discovery. PUZZLE SOLUTIONS

Sofia, a widow motivated by a need for power and independence, is the architect of a scheme to bring down Nell. Aiding Sofia in her plot is the Earl, an influential political figure with the connections she needs to get the job done. Unfortunately for the pair of strategists, Nell more than lives up to the talk going around town.

In an official trailer for the series, excited gossips speak of Nell, saying, “she’s unnatural,” and “she is formidable,” before Nell herself warns a foe, “you don’t want to mess with me.” Nell literally has the fighting spirit, as Sofia points out in the trailer, saying, “she fights as though she’s possessed.” Something comes over the titular renegade in these battles; whether it’s a firefight or hand-to-hand combat, a dark glow reaches her eyes and Nell cannot be bested.

Nell is joined on her adventure by her two sisters, as well as Rasselas. Inspired by the chance to chase his own freedom, Rasselas leaves his life as a stable boy behind to help Nell, Roxy and George on their journeys. The troupe, with Billy Blind in tow, earns quite a reputation all across the country while on the run. As Lady Eularia claims in the series trailer, “if you haven’t heard of Nell Jackson, then you’re the only person in England who hasn’t.”

Known for crafting satisfyingly complex adult dramas such as “Last Tango in Halifax” and “Gentleman Jack,” “Renegade Nell” is a bit of a departure for series creator Sally Wainwright, who is also the BAFTA Award-winning series creator of small-town British crime drama “Happy Valley.” In an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” this February, Lester shared that the new series “is really good fun. It’s very different for Sally Wainwright. She’s put political intrigue, sprites, magic, lots of fighting, highway robbery and Regency England in a big pot, gave it a stir, and out came an amazing idea.” In further praise, Lester said, “It is really good writing and I have a really good time being bad.”

That’s the best way to sum up what comedy legend Danny DeVito is doing now.

He’s still starring in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the FXX Network sitcom that’s getting ready to go into its 17th season.

At Season 15, it became the longest-running live-action sitcom in history, and it has plans to keep extending that record: Season 17 hasn’t aired yet, but the show already has a deal for Season 18.

DeVito has been a big part of that success. He’s starred in every season but the first, and indeed his addition to the cast is what saved the show from cancellation.

It was on the brink of getting axed when network suits told the producers that if they wanted a Season 2, they had to add a big name. They approached DeVito, found out his kids were fans, and the rest is history.

But even at the age of 79, 54 years into his screen career, he still has a few different projects on the go at all times.

He just finished voicing Uncle Dan in the animated smash “Migration” (2023) and appeared as well in the family-friendly live-action Disney film “Haunted Mansion” (2023).

He also made headlines just a few weeks ago, appearing in State Farm Insurance’s Super Bowl ad opposite fellow film great Arnold Schwarzenegger (“The Terminator,” 1984). The ad served as a mini-reunion for their 1988 comedy classic “Twins.”

DeVito is also a prolific producer. He’s backing the TV adaptation of the 1997 sci-fi hit “Gattaca,” which is being set up to air on Showtime on a date yet to be determined.
