Q: I’m seeing a lot of Amanda Kloots in commercials these days, and I enjoyed her movie “Fit for Christmas.”

Will she be making any more films?

A: It’s quite possible, since she has shown herself to want to give outlets to her creativity wherever she can find them. That 2022 CBS movie (which was repeated recently, and which she also co-wrote) came from a very personal place for Kloots, since her character in it incorporated the career she has had as a fitness instructor … so whether that aspect also would have to factor into any other films she makes remains to be seen.

Also seen weekdays on CBS as a co-host of “The Talk,” Kloots used to be one of Radio City Music Hall’s famed Rockettes, and she has been in such Broadway musicals as “Follies,” “Young Frankenstein” and “Bullets Over Broadway.” She also was a Season 30 contestant on “Dancing With the Stars,” ultimately placing fourth in that competition – and also addressing the high kicks she performs in the current commercials referenced in this question.

Kloots has done much to continue memorializing her late husband, fellow Broadway performer, Nick Cordero, following his death from COVID-19 in 2020. She met him while they both were in “Bullets Over Broadway,” and she has posted on Instagram about him often. She also wrote the memoir “Live Your Life: My Story of Loving and Losing Nick Cordero,” and she has a young son by him, named Elvis.

So long, 2023: ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ ushers in another new year

Stop rockin’ around the Christmas tree, because it’s time to head to New York City — via your living room TV — for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest,” ringing in the new year Sunday, Dec. 31, when the annual special is broadcast live on ABC from The Big Apple. Seacrest, who will undoubtedly be toasting his upcoming gig as the new host of “Wheel of Fortune” when the ball drops, will be joined by co-hosts from parties across America as everyone welcomes the new year with musical performances to keep audiences dancing all the way into 2024.

Every year, partiers fill Times Square in New York City, braving the brisk weather to watch the ball drop. Top musical artists keep everyone celebrating warm with exciting live performances you can’t help but rock out to, from stages in The Big Apple and Los Angeles. The at-home broadcast also features clips from celebrations around the world as countries spanning every time zone count down the last seconds of 2023.

The superstars helping us ring in 2024 are Aqua (“Barbie Girl”); Doechii (“Persuasive”); Ellie Goulding (“By the End of the Night”); Janelle Monáe (“Lipstick Lover”); Loud Luxury, Two Friends and Bebe Rexha, who will perform their hit “If Only I”; Ludacris (“Stand Up”); Nile Rodgers and CHIC (“Good Times”); Paul Russell (“Lil Boo Thang”); and Reneé Rapp (“Snow Angel”). Hollywood rockers Thirty Seconds to Mars (“Seasons”) will also be putting on a show at the L.A. party. More musical acts performing from Times Square will be announced as we near the final days of the year, according to ABC.

Tuning in to the “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” broadcast is an annual tradition for millions of viewers, and a convention that began all the way back to the eve of 1973.

That year, feeling that the New Year’s Eve broadcast special had grown stale, Dick Clark, known primarily at the time as the long-standing host of the music and dance program “American Bandstand,” used his connection to youth culture to craft a new kind of special that would attract a younger audience.

Clark was the face of New Year’s Eve programming until 2004 when the host suffered a stroke, leading “Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee” anchor Regis Philbin to step in that year. Clark returned to cohost the show in 2005 alongside “American Idol” host Seacrest, who celebrates his 19th Times Square New Year with this upcoming broadcast.

Clark and Seacrest co-hosted “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” for years, ringing in their final new year together in 2012 before Clark’s death that August. Clark’s legacy lives on in the iconic broadcast he created, not just in its name but in its spirit. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly last December, Seacrest shared what Clark taught him about what the show means to viewers, saying, “I think the idea for us is just to create a big party for people who don’t want to go anywhere, who want to just relax, be in their homes, be with their families, order pizza, order Buffalo wings, whatever it is.” Seacrest added, “We can bring the excitement, the energy and the new year to them. That’s what Dick told me all along.

He goes, ‘We’re talking to people who are at home, but we bring the excitement to them through the show.’”

The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

Q: Why did Tom Bergeron leave “Dancing With the Stars”? And what’s he doing now?

A: Host Tom Bergeron was clearly a little embittered by his exit from “Dancing With the Stars,” but it hasn’t dimmed his enthusiasm for showbiz. Lately it seems he’s been hustling as hard as ever, but for smaller-scale projects that are meaningful to him.

That includes showing up on the podcasts of old friends like former “DWTS” pro Cheryl Burke. On an episode of her podcast, “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans,” Bergeron opened up about his exit from the reality dance competition, saying it was due to them casting former White House press secretary Sean Spicer as a contestant.

He said he pleaded with the producers to keep politics out of the show. He felt that “DWTS’s” value — especially on the cusp of an election year (Spicer appeared on the show in the fall of 2019) — was being “the show that gives people a break from all this bull——.” [Expletive deleted here because podcasts generally don’t have censors.]

But they went ahead with the casting anyway, and when Bergeron asked to just take that season off, they offered instead to let him out of his contract entirely. So Bergeron said he had to quit. “At that moment, I knew this is probably my last season, because of that one betrayal.”

Since then, he hasn’t taken on another real full-time gig, instead bouncing between smaller, fun projects. Projects like “Hollywood Radio Players,” an online-only series Bergeron hosts, where actors perform ‘40s-style radio plays, but on camera. It’s a limited, low-budget project that raises money for the Motion Picture and Television Fund.

And he’ll be appearing in what promises to be a pretty heartwarming documentary called “Finding Happy,” about a woman healing herself while doing the same for a rescued sparrow. It’s reported to be filming now, with no release date planned yet.
