STRONG GROWTH AT STARVED ROCK WOOD PRODUCTS LEADS TO MORE JOBS IN MENDOTA AND A STUNNING NEW SHOWROOM IN GLENVIEW, IL.

This has been a landmark year for Starved Rock Wood Products, one of Mendota’s fastest growing companies. With business booming, the company has added an extra 45 local positions to its workforce this year, with more expected in 2022. Additionally, September saw the opening of a large, state-of-the-art showroom in Glenview, IL, next door to the famous Abt appliances store. Now that we have the production capabilities and scale, opening our first showroom in the Chicago market was the logical next step for us. We plan to follow this with another showroom here in Mendota in 2023. We want these showrooms to be spaces where customers not only get to imagine their dream kitchen, but also understand the care and attention that goes into every step of the process.”

Starved Rock Wood Products is a family-owned business, with three modern manufacturing plants in Mendota, IL and Madison, WI. CEO Keith Miller, who started the company 25 years ago, explained why the business was now making such a bold move into the Chicago market. “Over the past couple of years the demand for our cabinets reached such a level that we needed to expand manufacturing and distribution in order to meet it. We have invested heavily in bringing the latest automation technology to our three production facilities. This, in combination with the traditional craftsmanship and experience of our team, has made it possible for us to manufacture highly customized, high quality kitchens at price points more commonly found with off-the-shelf products, which are often imported from China. It’s a winning formula which has allowed us to expand rapidly, and grow our team here in Mendota to over 120 staff. Starved Rock Wood Products is unusual in that it manages the entire process from beginning to end; from design, to selecting raw, sustainably sourced US lumber, to manufacturin g the cabinets, to delivery, to installation by its own installation crews and after sales service. Cabinets are made and delivered directly from the factory, with no middlemen. “We’ve found this is the only way to guarantee that our customers get a kitchen that not only looks great on the day it arrives, but which continues to work perfectly for years to come. It’s a simple matter of accountability and we’re happy to be held accountable for the successful completion of a project.”

This level of attention to detail is summed up in the company’s tagline Wood. Working. Beautifully. And it is brought to life spectacularly in the new showroom. Dana Nielsen, Manager of the showroom, says “Buying a kitchen is a big investment, and we want everyone who visits the showroom to have all their questions answered. We’ve therefore designed the space not only to showcase thirteen different styles of kitchen we offer, along with all the different finishes and accessories available, but also to bring to life who we are as a company - our Mendota roots, our philosophy, how we work with customers to help them realize their dream kitchen. We want them to understand who they will be working with on this important project.” On entering the showroom, the first thing you see is not a kitchen but a wrap-around media area where the Starved Rock experience is brought to life. With over 500 different door styles and finishes to choose from, the customers will find exactly what they had in mind when they first walked in. And while grown-ups are playing at designing kitchens, kids are invited to come along and enjoy their own play area in the showroom. Peter Limberger, from family-owned CL Enterprises and Chairman of Starved Rock Wood Products said, “Personally, it’s been very satisfying to see the company thrive and create new employment opportunities in Mendota and beyond– it aligns very strongly with our overall goals of investing in small towns across the Midwest and contributing to their development and renaissance. We are tremendously grateful for all the support the company has received from the City of Mendota and our banking partners and the State of Illinois, without whose trust we would not have come this far in such a short time. The future looks very exciting for Starved Rock Wood Products and the community it serves”.

The Starved Rock Wood Products showroom is at 1170 N Milwaukee Ave, Glenview, IL.
