Valley Regional Health Services
Valley Regional Health Services features a state-of-the art PET/CT scanner called Discovery IQ. The scanner has the Q.Clear feature, which allows for more accurate tumor measurement. VRHS can scan patients in half the time and with a lower dose of radiation.
“We’re able to see smaller tumors,” said coordinator Karen Karczewski. “That means sooner diagnosis and sooner treatment, which hopefully will lead to a better outcome for the patient.”
The scanner has the ability to scan patients from head to toe without having to move them. PET is a test that uses a radioactive sugar molecule to produce pictures of the function and metabolism of the body’s cells. CT scans generate a detailed view of the anatomy or structure of the body’s organs and tissues. The laboratory uses a chemistry analyzer, an Abbott Architect, to provide a broader test menu with a quicker turnaround time.
The laboratory provides routine and stat blood counts, chemistry tests and tumor marker assays.
