Fact: Mental health disorders are real, common and often treatable. An estimated 1 in 5 American adults (nearly 44 million people) and 13-20% of children living in the United States will experience a diagnosable mental health disorder in a given year, according to Mental Health America, an advocacy organization. Where to find help will depend on the age (adult or child) and the type of disorder or symptoms experienced, but qualified professional assistance is more available than ever. Here are some things to keep in mind when looking for a treatment center:
FLEXIBILITY
Everyone is different. Needs vary from person to person, depending on the diagnosis. One of your first considerations is to look for a center that does not offer a one-size-fits-all approach to healing people. The best facilities will have a wide array of treatment options. Then they will tailor their services to fit specific situations and develop a plan of care unique to the person. These centers will have a range of choices. At one end of the spectrum, there might be short-term outpatient care that can be performed in any setting, much like one-on-one counseling. At the other end, there is more intensive inpatient or long term intensive outpatient care. Some may offer hospital care at the same facility. But most cases will be somewhere in the middle of these two choices. An ideal care center will be able to offer custom treatments for individuals. Whether you are seeking short or long-term care, the staff should be able to match you with treatment specific to your needs.
TEAM APPROACH
When people think of psychiatry, they often imagine one-on-one sessions with the patient laying on a couch. In reality, mental health care may involve a multidisciplinary approach. Psychiatrists and psychologists are just one option. Other behavioral and wellness professionals can also assist in treatment. There may be medical professionals like nurses and licensed therapists, along with social workers, and case managers and Peer support staff. It all depends on the diagnosis, the patient needs, and desired outcome. A good treatment center will be able to utilize a team of professionals who can work on a patient’s health from multiple angles for the most successful results.
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
SM-LA1788396
When family gets involved in the treatment process, treatment may have a better success rate. Mental health and addiction professionals appreciate the support that a family can give the patient. In addition, some issues — especially addiction — often leads to emotional and stressful family struggles. It is essential that the whole family learns how to deal with these dynamics. Education is key. The best treatment centers encourage honest, open dialogue among family members. The family must establish healthy, clear communication about the issues they’ve been experiencing. Emotional, mental health and substance abuse issues do not affect just an individual. Everyone feels the impact in major ways, and all of the family can become involved in supporting the right health solution for the patient.
ONGOING SERVICES
Reputable treatment centers will have a strong aftercare program. They will recommend a course of ongoing, continuing care to keep the patient on track with their recovery. This last stage can make a big difference over the long run. It will help the patient ease into daily life while still receiving continuing care. A mental health center should be able to arrange for ongoing services, such as outpatient care, support groups, or peer support to ensure as smooth a transition as possible once the initial, intense stages of treatment are completed.

How to choose a financial advisor Working with a professional financial advisor could be the best investment you’ll ever make. The best planners can help you meet your financial goals now, and in the future, bringing into play an experienced, objective perspective to advise you on how best to save, invest and spend your money. They can also suggest avenues of money management that hadn’t occurred to you, help lower your taxes and guide you through uncertain financial times. To find a reliable financial advisor, start by asking your social network. Friends and family may have some suggestions. Research online for advisors in your area. Your local newspaper will likely have advertisements for local advisors. Remember to research each advisor with an eye toward your own situation and goals. Once you have a list of three or four possibilities; look closer at each choice. It might be a good idea to pick a financial advisor who is a certified financial planner. A certified financial planner has passed rigorous exams in order to obtain a certificate. Once you have discovered each advisor’s qualifications, contact the certifying organizations to find out if there have been any complaints against each professional. If so, find out how the complaints were resolved. You can request a list of satisfied clients who have goals comparable to yours. Contact them to talk about their experiences.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Financial products can contribute to your well-being and peace of mind. Some common investing tools include bonds, mutual funds, stocks and commodities. Weighing risk is essential. Some products will undoubtedly be better for your portfolio than others. An experienced financial advisor can customize a portfolio especially for you. You can also do some research to find a segment of the market that might be a good fit for your situation. Then look for an advisor who specializes in that investment. For example, if you want to invest in commodities, your potential advisor should have some experience in that market.
RATE OF SUCCESS
Be wary of projected returns much higher than industry average. Risk and return should be based on each individual’s tolerance for risk. Has the rate of return on the recommendation proposed within
a portfolio based on your risk tolerance? During tough or stagnant economic times, experience will play a vital role. Has your advisor weathered previous economic slowdowns? Do clients thrive in bleak environments? Or have clients taken multiple hits to their portfolios? You should be wary if clients appear to be doing too good during tough times. Someone with an extraordinary success rate might be too good to be true.
FEES OR COMMISSIONS
Inquire about how your advisor is paid for services. Most offer fee-based or commission-based services. It may greatly influence your selection. A commission-based advisor will receive a commission for investment transactions you make. A fee-based advisor will receive a flat fee based on time spent on your portfolio along with success of your portfolio.
INTERVIEW
Once you have narrowed your prospects to two
or three possibilities, schedule a meeting with each professional. During this consultation, communicate your goals honestly and clearly. A financial planner should be someone who will guide and inform you. He or she will continually increase your knowledge about your current financial situation and how to improve it.
PUT IT IN WRITING
Once you have narrowed your list to one or two advisors; ask each to write a plan for moving you from where you are to where you want to be. Get a written copy of this proposal. This document should have your short-term and long-term goals, and also state who else will profit from the proposal. This plan should be written clearly so you completely understand it. Once everything has been completed to your satisfaction, you can choose a financial advisor. Then you can comfortably relax and know that your money and future are in good hands.

Those who seek out and collect antiques are driven by at least one of two passions: for the objects themselves and what they might mean to an individual or their interest in history, or they recognize their value and hunt antiques in order to connect with a collector. Sometimes passion and profit collide. But there’s no denying that antiques and collectibles intersect at the point where nostalgia meets art in everyday things. The character of older products and the sense of history dating back decades or generations can be inexplicably attractive. It’s because we know every antique piece has a story. Some have multiple stories embedded in the array of nicks and scrapes marking them. And we’re often free to imagine our own stories about their pasts. Antiques don’t go out of style. No matter what the piece, there’s a good chance it will always be of interest to someone — a collector, a museum curator, a professional collector or an auctioneer. Usually, a piece should be at least 50 years old to be considered a true antique. But just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s an antique. “Collectible” and “vintage” are not synonymous with “antique.” That’s an important distinction to
keep in mind when shopping for authentic pieces. Many items considered antiques are simply collectibles. View-Masters, vinyl records, spoons and even thimbles are some examples of popular collectibles that are not antiques. Also, vintage items are usually from a certain time period, such as the 1970s or 1980s. When looking for authentic antiques, quality, craftsmanship, manufacturer and history of the piece are paramount.
WHERE TO FIND ANTIQUES
Online stores and sites such as eBay, flea markets and estate sales are great places to find antiques or collectibles. They might even offer you a good deal. But unless you really know your antiques use these venues with caution. Know the difference between a genuine antique and a fake. And never buy something without inspecting it. Auction sites may be convenient, but you will have to add the cost of shipping and insurance to the price of the item. It is cheaper to find the same item at a local shop or estate sale. You can use an online auction site for research, to see what other people are bidding on the same or similar pieces. But to truly find the best and most authentic deals,
Antique, Vintage and Shabby Chic. Discover something new each time you visit
shopping your local antique stores is your best bet. You are much more likely to get a better deal on an authentic piece at your local antique shop. Local shop owners like to build a rapport with their customers and love to talk about the history of their inventory. When you shop locally, you will also have the assurance of being able to validate works before purchasing them.
FORMING A RELATIONSHIP
After you have located two or three prospective dealers, visit their shops. If you are searching for a particular item, most dealers will try to locate it for you. If they don’t have the item, they might be able to tell you about another dealer who carries it. Creating a good relationship with an antiques or collectibles dealer has many advantages. Dealers can give you their assurance you that the pieces are authentic and often offer regular clients better prices. Reputable dealers can also help you find other resources, such as conferences and conventions that can help educate you in the art of finding the perfect antique for your home or office.

How to choose farm insurance
The insurance needs of every home and property are different. So it makes sense that farms, too, have unique insurance requirements. If you run a farm, you need specialized insurance to protect your investments in equipment, buildings, livestock and crops. Many farmers are well schooled in their understanding of planting schedules and farm equipment, but aren’t experts on the complicated workings of insurance coverage. A sound insurance policy can make the difference in whether their business lives or dies in the event of an accident or other catastrophe. When you are in the market for farm insurance, here are some things you need to keep in mind.
INCREASED LIABILITY
With the farming industry changing at a rapid pace, you may have more exposure to the prospects of lawsuits and damages. Contact with the general public, for instance, brings risk. Roadside produce stands, agri-tourism events and even “pick-it-yourself” fields bring a potential for liability if someone is injured or harmed on your property.
You might also be held liable if someone gets sick from eating your crops. Every farm is different, with various sizes and types of operations. You might need different coverage from other farms. Have a meeting with your insurance agent to talk about your changing needs when it comes to liability coverage. The agent should develop a customized solution specifically for your needs.
KNOW YOUR POLICY
Farm policies are very different from other insurance products. It is important to understand your coverage. When you meet with your insurance agent, ask the following questions: — If my house is on the farm, does farm insurance cover it for damage? — What types of damage to my farm equipment does the insurance policy cover? — Does the policy include all the barns and buildings on the farm? — How are my livestock covered? Policies are different. Some may cover livestock, buildings and equipment, while others will provide
coverage from disasters, floods and other harm. Find an insurance agent who is specially trained to look for risks that exist on farms. You should identify these things and insure against them before they happen. It is better to be prepared rather than feel regret.
FIRM STRENGTH
Make sure you are dealing with an insurance company that has a strong balance sheet and good reputation. Insurance companies receive ratings based on their finances. A good agent will discuss these ratings with you. It is equally important to understand the company’s reputation for dealing with claims. Good insurance companies handle farm claims quickly, fairly and professionally. It is always a smart idea to ask other farmers in your area about insurance companies. They may even have some recommendations for you. Knowing how to protect your farm, equipment and livestock, and getting the right coverage will protect you as well as give you peace of mind.

Ask any homeowner what they like least about their carpeting and they’ll quickly reply, “Keeping it clean.” While carpeting has advantages, keeping it plush, soft, clean and looking and smelling good is paramount to making sure it lasts as long as possible. Regular cleaning will help your carpet maintain its beauty and texture. But it’s also a tedious and difficult job that many don’t want to approach themselves. That’s when you may want to enlist the help of a professional. A good carpet cleaning company will be able to remove spots and stains. These companies can even often revive an older carpet by using special equipment and processes. Here are some things to keep in mind when selecting a carpet cleaner.
PROFESSIONAL STAFF
A carpet-cleaning company should have a professional appearance and demeanor. There are few regulations on cleaning businesses, so the professionalism of each company can vary widely. Keep in mind, you will be bringing these cleaners into your home, so ask the company pertinent questions and make sure you are comfortable with their staff and process before hiring them. Proof of their insurance coverage is a must. If the company doesn’t have insurance, you’ll be responsible for injuries or damage that occur while they work on your property. You should also check whether the company subcontracts services to other providers, and get to know them as well. Talk to them about their background and any special certifications they have in their industry.
CLEANING PROCESS
Processes for cleaning carpets vary. A good cleaning can be achieved using solutions, minimal moisture and heavy-duty equipment. Learn about the company’s process and understand why they prefer one process over another. Verify that the solutions are safe and nontoxic if you have children or pets. Also be sure to check that they are not using anything that would be harmful if you have certain allergies to cleaning products. Another consideration is how long it will take the carpet to be dry enough to walk on. If you need a quick cleaning, a dry solution can shorten the dry time considerably.
HAPPY CUSTOMERS
References from previous customers can be a big help in choosing a good cleaning company. People are usually happy to tell you when they’ve received good services. They’ll also usually let you know if you’re in for a disappointment. Your social network is a great place to ask about carpet cleaning companies. If they have found a great service, ask for the contact information and get a quote for your own home. You can search online for information about what to expect. Look at review websites to see what customers have said about each business. Of course, maintain a level of skepticism about anything you read. Even the best cleaners can leave a customer dissatisfied, so one person’s rant isn’t
necessarily a reflection of what you could expect. If possible, contact the Better Business Bureau to see whether there have been any complaints filed about a business and how they were resolved.
PROTECTION POLICIES
As with any service, you should ask your carpet cleaning company about their service guarantees. If they miss stains and spots will they return? How about if they somehow damage your carpet or leave your home with a lingering chemical odor? If the prospective cleaning company gives a guarantee, it’s a good indication of sound business practices. So find a company with warranties and a spotless reputation, and you’ll know you have found a good carpet cleaner.

How to choose an auto body shop
From dents and scrapes to fender-benders and more intense damage resulting from an accident, repairing your vehicle requires the services of expert professionals from an experienced, reputable auto body shop. Not surprisingly, shops specializing in this service can vary in quality, reliability and cost. It’s not unusual for auto body repair estimates to differ by hundreds if not thousands of dollars. To get the best work at the fairest price requires an investment in time and asking the right questions. Choosing the right body shop depends on many factors, such as the extent of damage, whether the costs are born by yourself or insurance, the experience of the shop with your make and model of vehicle and the shop’s history and reputation, among others. Paramount to your search is finding an auto body shop that’s honest, trustworthy and dependable. That choice will ensure that your vehicle is repaired quickly, affordably and correctly. The shop you choose should be able to complete all manner of work, from a minor touch-up to a fullbody repair. Your friends, family and colleagues might have recommendations. After all, auto body shops are
an unfortunate, but necessary, part of life for most people. Have a list of companies, research each shop on the Internet and read customer reviews. Testimonials, negative and positive, should be considered. But keep in mind that no business has a 100 percent satisfaction rate. Someone will always be displeased. Also, more people are likely to leave a negative rather than a positive comment. A good source for finding an auto body shop is your local newspaper. Local businesses advertise and many times you can find special deals to help save you money. Once you have created a list of shops, contact them on the phone and ask pertinent questions. How long have they been in business? What are their specialties? How soon can you bring your vehicle in for an inspection? Ask to set up an appointment for a free inspection. Then further investigate the business. Look around their lobby. Is it clean? Do they have their license and any awards or certificates posted? Do they care enough about their customers to offer reading material, coffee or water? Consider prices. Are they comparable to other body shops? While you want to find a great deal,
cheaper is not always better. Understand that you will often get what you pay for when it comes to auto body work. Low prices may be tempting, but they typically mean sub-par work, used parts and paint that is incorrectly applied. Feel free to ask the manager or owner for references before they work on your car. You can also check their previous work. When you see a car with paint drips, panels that are misaligned or paints that don’t match, look elsewhere. You will not save money if you need to have the improper work redone. The shop should inspect your vehicle for repairs that are not readily visible. Often, there are hidden damages that cannot be detected until repair work begins on the vehicle. Finding an auto body shop may not be the most pleasant business because it usually means your vehicle has suffered some kind of damage. But finding the right shop will make the experience much more pleasant and you will be happy with the repairs. Especially if you find the right shop that knows how to repair your vehicle so it looks the same as before, or even better.

Finding the right insurance agent isn’t as simple as choosing the cheapest policy. A good insurance agency is an advocate for your needs and represents your interests in covering your health, home, auto and other insurable valuables. They’ll guide you through the maze of options available to you and help find policies that protect you and your budget. Unfortunately, not every agent is the reliable, reputable agent professional you’d hope. It’s important to make sure you vet your agent prior to opting into the coverage they offer. Your financial future depends on finding the right person to help you get insurance that will fit your needs. Here’s some guidance on how to find the best agent or broker for your needs.
ASK FOR REFERRALS
Family, friends and colleagues have likely worked with insurance agents in the past. Ask people you trust for referrals. If you receive a recommendation, it is because that person has had a positive experience. There is a strong likelihood that you will have similar results. Good agents understand that offering great service will keep them in business. Their careers depend on word-of-mouth. If you are happy with the service you receive, your insurance agent will appreciate your willingness to send business their way.
RESEARCH
If you do not have recommendations, begin researching your options. Begin by looking at local companies and brokers. As you conduct your research, be thorough and critical. Buying a policy is similar to purchasing a new car or home. It truly is that important. Select a company that is highly regarded by consumers. Read reviews of each company to determine who has the most satisfied clients. Are they easy to work with? Have there been any problems with collecting on a policy? Also, check that any prospective agent has all necessary licenses and training.
INTERVIEWS
After narrowing your list of prospective agents, make an appointment to visit each one. Prepare a list of questions and concerns about your personal situation. Take notes during your meeting. Remember that you must feel comfortable with the answers before purchasing a policy. If an agent tries to pressure you into making a decision right away, inform him that you need more time and cannot sign anything immediately. The right agent will let you take as much time as you need to understand the implications of each policy. They will give you useful information and not subject you to high-pressure sales techniques.
Your agent should be available. The relationship doesn’t end once the sale is completed. Your dialogue should be continuous. The best agents are available in the event you have to file a claim. Agents who have been in business for many years likely have a good reputation and track record. They understand the policies and will even take extra care that you are properly protected. It is essential that you choose the right type and amount of insurance to adequately protect yourself and your financial future. The policy should be tailored to fit your specific needs. A seasoned, skilled insurance agent will be an invaluable resource for safeguarding your future.

What is a commercial cleaning company? A commercial cleaning company is the general term for a company that provides cleaning services for businesses such as offices, shops, factories, restaurants, etc. They generally perform cleaning services after hours to avoid interruption to business operations. However, some settings require daytime cleaning as well, such as the common areas of high traffic buildings. Standard cleaning tasks can include trash and recycling, dusting, restroom cleaning, kitchen/breakroom cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, and similar tasks. More advanced services can include commercial carpet cleaning, machine floor cleaning, and window cleaning services. A full-service commercial cleaning company can build custom cleaning programs for end-to-end facility requirements. Points to consider when hiring a commercial cleaning company. If you run an active business, it is unlikely you will have time to add cleaning to your list of tasks. Your staff will be employed for a specific purpose; therefore, they may not consider cleaning to be part of their job. Also, it may be more productive and make more financial sense to have your staff spending their time doing their professional job. A commercial cleaner will arrive at your business premises when contracted to do so and will carry out all the jobs in their contract.
1. REPUTATION AND EXPERIENCE
Trust is necessary when hiring a business facility cleaner. Cleaning company employees will be in your facility, often after hours, and after you and your employees have gone home for the day. Thus, your cleaning company is responsible for working diligently and in a professional manner with minimal direct supervision. How can you gauge a cleaning company’s trustworthiness? These evaluating baselines can help: • Years of Experience: Choose a company that is well-established in your service area and with years of experience. • Industries Serviced: Investigate the types of industries, buildings, and settings the cleaning company has experience servicing. • References: The most reputable cleaning companies will be happy to share references!
2. EMPLOYEE TRAINING AND SCREENING
The best commercial property cleaners view
hiring as a critical responsibility. They hire only the most qualified and trustworthy employees, and they provide their staff with formal and consistent training to ensure quality and safety.
3. CLEANING EQUIPMENT
The vast majority of businesses will have a broom, maybe a few dusters and some polish but if you employ a cleaning company they will arrive with everything they need to carry out their work.
4. INSURANCE
A good commercial cleaning company will be insured to use their own equipment and to work on your premises.
5. RELIABILITY
A commercial cleaning company will have many trained cleaners, therefore will be able to complete your regular cleaning contract even during holiday
periods and staff illness. If you leave this task to your own staff, it is likely to get put to the bottom of the list of tasks when you are short-staffed during holiday periods or at busy times.
6. BUSINESS PREMISES CLEANLINESS
Maintaining a clean place of work is important for many reasons. If your business is customer facing, it must always be clean and fresh , or it is unlikely that customers will return. Your staff also needs to work in a clean environment. Not only are they likely to work harder, but they are also less likely to be ill if they are in a clean and tidy office environment.
7. CERTIFIED IN COVID-19 CLEANING
Be sure to choose a commercial cleaning company that is certified and experienced in COVID-19 cleaning. This will help to ensure that your facility and staff are safe and healthy.

There’s nothing like camping to truly “get away from it all.” Unplugging from a hectic daily life in the city or suburbs and getting back in touch with nature can offer not only the benefits of recharging, but fun and relaxation amid natural beauty. Whether that means a small tent pitched in a remote location or an RV parked amid a caravan of others, campgrounds are part of the national imagination when it comes to ways to unwind and spend time with family and friends. Picking the right campground isn’t always easy, though. Some are designed for a family-style experience, while others cater to more intimate outings. And, of course, location is a huge factor. Here are some factors to weigh.
LOCATION
The first and most important choice is the campground’s location. If you’re going on a faraway trip, then you’ll obviously need a campground close to the destination. Online reviews and word-of-mouth descriptions from campers who have stayed there can help you make a decision. More often, though, camping is just as fun when you stay reasonably close to home. Look for a site that’s convenient for a weekend getaway, yet far enough away that it feels like a real vacation. Sometimes it can be very close to home geographically but a world away mentally. Nearby attractions can help you make the choice, too. National or state parks, tourist sites or cities you’d enjoy visiting can make certain campsites more appealing. Many travelers like to use campsites almost like hotel rooms, letting them travel, enjoy nature and stay frugal all at the same time.
AMENTIES
Let’s face it: There’s one part of camping that people seemingly never agree on — just how much civilization should be involved in the experience. For some campers, only a primitive campsite that can be reached by remote hiking counts as true camping. For others, a luxury RV with full hookups and paved walking paths is as primitive as they want to get. The choice really comes down to personal preference. The camp site should match your expectations for what you want from the outdoor experience, whether that’s just the basics — maybe a water hookup and a pad for your tent — or a fullblown luxury “glamping” resort.
Grandma’s Cabin at Kishauwau Starved Rock Area Cabins sleeps 14, perfect for girlfriends getaway, guys fishing trip, or family reunions. Includes full kitchen, central air, flatscreen TV with DVD player, outdoor fire pit, picnic tables and charcoal grill. Ask about electrical connections, RV hookups, showers, bathrooms and any other amenities you might want for your camping trip. The best campgrounds will offer a range of services at different price points to meet your needs.
LAYOUT AND RULES
For many people, camping is all about peace, quiet and isolation. For others, it’s more about partying with friends. Whatever your style of camping, you should make sure the campground’s layout and rules are a good match for your kind of fun. If you’re the peace-and-quiet kind of camper, you’ll want a campground with widely spaced, very private camp sites and strictly enforced curfew rules. Most campgrounds have a designated hour when quiet time begins, but some are stricter than others about making sure campers comply with them. If you want to play music and get loud with friends and family, you should look for a camp site where that’s not going to be a problem. Later curfews and a more laid-back atmosphere would be a better fit. Talk to the campground’s manager if you have
any questions about what’s allowed and what’s not. Knowing and following the rules will not only help keep you safe, but also make you a better camping neighbor so everyone has a good experience.
RESERVATIONS
Finally, you should look for a campground that accepts reservations well in advance, especially if you plan to camp on a holiday, a weekend or during a busy time of year. Every campground has their own procedures for how they handle reservations. The most popular sites can be reserved months or even years in advance for the heavy travel season, so plan far ahead if you want the best selection. Some campgrounds use an online reservation system where you can schedule and pay for your camp site on the computer. Others can be reserved by phone or mail. And some don’t allow reservations at all, allocating their camp sites to whomever shows up first. By picking a campground with the right location, amenities and policies, then reserving it well in advance, you’ll be setting the stage for a memorable, fun experience enjoying Mother Nature.

How to choose carpet In a world increasingly returning to the beauty of wood floors, carpeting gets a bad rap. Carpeting not only perks up a room but the right carpet also protects your floor from foot traffic and pets. It also offers comfort, color and texture options. But carpeting your home, office or business can be an expensive. The variety of choices available today complicates the process. Selecting the right carpet for the right room can immediately change the character of the area, so it’s important to research your options. So, if you’re in the market for new floor coverings, make sure you plan carefully. With a wide-range of textiles, colors and applications, you’ll have plenty of options in choosing your new carpet. Typically, carpeting is an expensive purchase. Even for the cheapest brands will require a significant investment. Thankfully, this long-term purchase should should last for many years. Make a wise choice for your home and to ensure you receive the best value for your investment by keeping the following tips in mind.
CHOICES
Think about the pros and cons of wall-to-wall carpeting versus area rugs in your home. Wall-to-wall carpeting is an extremely popular choice. But because it is permanent, it tends to be costlier to install. You have the carpet itself to purchase, along with materials and costs like padding and installation. Area rugs are easier to maintain because they can be taken up easily for cleaning or replacement. You can also move them about the home at your convenience. The mobility and ability to clean an area rug makes it an especially good option for anyone with children or pets. You might want to consider an area rug if you frequently relocate. After all, you can pack it up and take it with you.
CALCULATE YOUR BUDGET
Choose the best carpeting you can afford. While carpeting lasts longer, wears better and is more stain resistant, sometimes area rugs are the best options for your pocketbook. It all depends on the look and feel you want for the home, office or room. Pricing, however, can vary widely with both options. Carpets prices depend on how much material is used, the manufacturer and the brand. Figure out the cost of an area rug by measuring the room to determine how much of the bare floor
you want exposed. The rugs come in a variety of standard sizes, 5-by-8 or 9-by-12, and so on. You can find beautiful textures and tasteful colors at reasonable prices. Wall-to-wall carpeting also comes in standard widths. If you have an especially large or oddly shaped room, you may have waste. The carpet will likely have seams to fit the odd pieces together. If you can’t get an accurate estimate, bring the dimensions to the carpet store and ask them to help you. Most carpet stores will give precise estimates for free or little cost.
COLOR AND TEXTURE
Deciding on the color and texture of your carpet is probably the most enjoyable part of the process – other than the finished product, of course. You might want to give the room a warmer feeling, lighten a dark room or match existing decor. The pattern will determine the effect the carpet has on the room. If you have children or pets, consider getting carpet with specially made fibers for easy cleaning. It will help you in the long run.
VISIT CARPET STORES
There are many places where you can purchase
carpeting, such as large stores, warehouses and small niche carpet dealers. You can even purchase carpeting online. Each has benefits and drawbacks. Typically, any place with the lowest costs will have the most limited services. Smaller suppliers might bring samples to your home and make measurements prior to quoting a price. Visit showrooms and ask questions. Small flooring stores usually focus on service. They might have discounts for services after the sale, such as carpet cleaning and stain-resistant protection. Big box stores often have financing plans. These large retailers can also afford to give you a package deal on padding and installation. But they tend to have average, limited and sometimes bland options. The low prices can be attributed to bulk purchases of standard carpets. Then they pass their savings along to consumers. No matter where you purchase your carpeting, take time to learn about the latest trends and options. Compare styles and colors with your décor. Carpeting can last many years, so you want to make sure you will be pleased with your decision.

The emergence of chain unisex hair salons has almost obscured what it means to have an experienced local barber. Great barbers, it has been said, have memories like an elephant. They remember your preferences and provide you with a consistent cut each time you visit. The experience is more than just a haircut. Developing a relationship with a great barber can also be a welcome social experience with both the barber and other clients. Once you find the perfect shop, you’ll look forward to returning even if it’s just for a touch-up. First, you’ll need to find yourself a skilled barber. These craftsman are trained and experienced in providing cuts that achieve the look you seek and keep your hair in great shape. Here’s some tips on choosing the right barber.
YOUR STYLE
Some men prefer to keep up with hair trends that might only be achieved by expensive stylists. Others may want a simple close crop, buzz or basic
trim. Men who prefer a complicated style straight out of men’s fashion magazines should find a salon. If the style only looks complex, it might be easily reproduced by your local barber. Make sure you have a picture of your preferred cut. It is always better to show a style rather than describe it.
LOCAL SHOPS
Once you have decided on the haircut you want, look within your community for a barber who can meet your requirements. The internet, local newspaper or phone book might provide you with valuable information. Also, consider asking your friends and family for names of barbers in the area. Ask a friend with a style you admire for the name of his barber. You might not want to copy his hairstyle exactly; but something similar may suit you.
CHECKING OUT THE SHOP
After you compile a list, contact each shop and ask about prices and services.
Some barbers open very early or stay open well into the evening to accommodate business people. Choose a barber whose services are within your budget and scheduling capabilities. The best barber shops are clean and well-maintained, so take a look around. Remember, though, if you visit during peak times, hair may not be swept up as quickly as it is during other times. Barbers usually do try to sweep away cut hair after each client.
TRY AND CHOOSE
When you have located barbers that meet your pricing, scheduling and styling requirements, try a few out before making one of them your permanent barber. If one gives you a good cut but the atmosphere isn’t the best, try another barber in your list. Once you find the right shop, there’s a good chance you’ll be returning for cuts for years to come.

How to choose siding for your home Selecting the siding is among the most important decisions you’ll make when building a home or replacing siding on an existing home. It protects the home from the elements and plays a crucial role in wall assembly. It’s also the “skin” of your home, adding curb and aesthetic appeal. But first you’ll want to shop around to get a feel for pricing and covering options, as well as factoring in the cost of professional installation. Here are a few things to consider.
REVIEW YOUR FINANCES
Your budget will guide your decision-making process. It will tell you how much money you have to make repairs or restorations. It is also a great time to look for any loans or other assistance. You might qualify for a special grant from your local government. Gather enough funds to get you through this process now, because you don’t want to go through it again in the near future. It is best to do it correctly the first time.
TYPE OF SIDING
There are many siding types available for purchase. Your choice will depend on your style, the price of materials and the kind of structural protection you need for your home. When you don’t have much money, vinyl siding might be your answer. It comes in a variety of shades. When you are simply looking to add color to the exterior of your home, vinyl will work well for your eyes and wallet. Metal siding is another alternative. It is slightly more expensive than vinyl, but it is extremely durable. When you need something tough, metal is a superior option. This siding can last up to 25 years, especially if you add an extra coat of paint to it. When appearance is your top priority, take a look at wood siding. It will give your home elegance and charm. Cedar is one of the most popular materials. This siding is usually recommended for houses in dry climates. Unfortunately, wood has a difficult time withstanding moisture. But this siding can last a long time if properly maintained. Stucco is another fantastic option. It is made of cement, and it has a cool, stylish appearance. It is extremely durable. This siding can last up to 50 years. It is a bit more expensive than other products, but many homeowners believe it is well worth the price.
CHOOSE A SIDING INSTALLER
It is always best to hire a professional, experienced company to install your siding. They will be
able to handle the materials and do the job quickly. If something is not done properly, you can always get a portion or full refund if they aren’t able to easily repair it. People who are working on a very tight budget can look for a handyman who has experience installing siding. A local individual might give you a discount. As with any home repair job, be sure to

check references and local regulations. Your community might have laws about hiring someone to do such work. And always ask for samples of his work or referrals from previous customers. Finding the right bank Ask any homeowner what they like least about theThe array of financial institutions vying for your business is broader than ever. With the rise of internet banking, visiting a brick-and-mortar branch is no longer absolutely necessary. Still others prefer to bank in person. Beyond a physical presence, some choose to combine all their accounts at one bank; others spread their finances around at specific institutions for savings, credit and investment to get the best deals and rates. Which sort of bank you choose — a “name” institution, credit union or the new-money, internet bank — reflects your financial needs and how you wish to deposit and manage your hard-earned pay. No matter where or how you access your money, choosing the right bank to serve your needs still requires close scrutiny. Here are a few things to consider.
INTEREST RATES
Banks want to be competitive. One way they entice new customers is by offering competitive interest rates. It’s not uncommon for savings account interest rates to vary widely, but the majority of institutions make adjustments according to changes in the federal funds rate. If you think interest rates are inconsequential, you’re wrong. When substantial deposit amounts are involved, the difference a few percentage points on an interest rate makes can be significant. Use online resources and shop around for the best rates in your area.
FEES
A checking account may only allow a certain number of checks to be written each month before a fee is assessed, or maybe a minimum balance is required to keep the account active. Some banks offer free checking. But you should make sure that the free checking is really free. There may be stipulations such as being required to keep a minimum balance in the account at all times. Look at a fee schedule to determine if it is acceptable to you.
CONVENIENCE
Banks with multiple locations in convenient areas are important. If you travel frequently, make sure your local or regional financial institution is a member of a national network. Some banks offer free ATM fees at another bank’s ATM. Also, ask about their online banking policies. Is the bank’s website easy to navigate and secure? Online banking can be a great way to pay bills and transfer money between accounts.
See Rachel Balestri in our Peru branch for you mortgage and lending needs.
OVERDRAFT SAFEGUARDS
We all make mistakes. Accidental overdrafts happen occasionally. Each financial institution has a different policy about these matters. Some banks provide no overdraft coverage. Be sure to research overdraft policies before making a final decision.
Most banks are also insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation for up to $250,000 per depositor. This can vary depending on the type and number of accounts held by a customer. If you understand these safeguards, your money will be safe in a bank. But failures are still possible. Still, a solid bank will limit exposure to toxic assets that put its balance sheet at risk.
SERVICES
STABILITY
It is very important to consider a bank’s stability. Before you hand money to an institution, check its history and financial condition. Banks usually invest deposited funds under a fractional reserve banking system. Any bank with a strong balance sheet should be able to weather any turbulence caused by market corrections.
Most banks offer a variety of services. Whether you need to get a loan or open a checking account, choose a bank that fulfills your needs with the fewest fees. It should offer the maximum conveniences possible. Careful and vigilant shoppers will have positive experiences by making an effort to choose a trustworthy commercial bank.

How to choose a flooring dealer
Fran Szott’s Carpet & Flooring Outlet has provided exceptional service, quality and value for over 70 years. Carpet, hardwood, bamboo, laminate, stone and tile. The many choices available for new flooring will lead you to flooring deals to determine the pros and cons of each option. Getting the service and value you seek from an expensive and long-term investment requires you consult a reputable, professional flooring dealer with a history of meeting client needs with not only sales but support and service. Here are some things to consider as you shop for flooring. When picking the best flooring and respective dealer, longevity, not price, should be your guide. Everyone wants the best price possible, but it’s important to consider these factors as well: What if something happens in 10 years and you have no warranty to repair or replace the damage? So be sure to look at additional support and services. Find a dealer who has a great reputation and long track record of excellent customer service. Spending extra money is worth purchasing a product from a flooring dealer you can trust. You aren’t just buying flooring. You are also creating a relationship. When looking for a flooring dealer, look on the internet or your local phone book.

On the internet, you can find review sites to see how local flooring dealers compare. You can also check advertisements in your local newspaper to find specials and deals. Be sure to check with the Better Business Bureau to see if the company has had any complaints lodged against it. If so, look to see how they were resolved. You might also check with the Chamber of Commerce. After making a list of potential dealers you are considering, give each of them a call. Inquire about the background of the company and how long they’ve been in business. You may ask for referrals from previous customers for references. Find out about the installation services they use and the dealer’s reliability. Do they use in-company groups or outside contractors? Also, find out about prices and warranty coverage. If you visit their offices, they might even show you a scrapbook of prior work. Experience should play a role in which company you ultimately select. Quality of materials, comparable or lower prices and good references will all make a big difference in finding the right flooring dealer.

How to start a small business Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. According to the Small Business Administration, there are more than 28 million small businesses in the U.S. — with more launching every day. Many people dream of opening a small business, and for many reasons: to pursue a unique business idea, to create a career that allows for flexibility and work-life balance or as a move toward financial independence. But how exactly can you make your dream a reality? Ask yourself if you are ready, willing and able to run a small business. This undertaking requires lots of hard work and persistence. Not everyone is up for the job. A small business owner does many things. You may need to answer the phones or make service calls. Also, you may have to run your own marketing campaign and then become a sales person. Incredible energy is required, as a business owner has to work 12-hour days with little time off. A great idea and lots of passion are simply not enough. You will need a skill set and expertise that you may or may not have acquired as an employee. The good news is that if you don’t have these skills, you can learn them. Help is available through your local Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Administration and other not-for-profit agencies. It is important to start training yourself now before it is too late. If you have a desire to succeed starting your own small business, here are some things to consider: 1. Identify your business opportunity. Take an inventory of your skills, background and expertise. What are you willing to learn? Your passions, interests and hobbies can guide you. If your service involves meaningful work or something you are genuinely passionate about, your long days and hard work will feel fulfilling. 2. Determine if there is a need in the community for your product or service and research the competition. Understanding your market and competition is always necessary if you want your business to succeed. 3. Understand that you will need to create a mission statement and a detailed business plan. Usually a business plan includes a vision, description of the organization’s structure, how the business will be financed and the capital will be used. Your plan should also include projects of growth and profit or
service goals. Businesses with strong, solid business plans are more likely to succeed. It means you have thought of all aspects of the business and can articulate your vision clearly. 4. Determine where you will find the capital to start your small business. Businesses fail because they don’t have enough funding. If you have a good business plan, chances for receiving funding will increase. You will demonstrate skills, forethought and credibility in asking for capital regardless of whether you are asking a bank or a relative. 5. Explore the requirements for doing business in your area. Are licenses and permits required? Do you need to incorporate? At this point it may be wise to consult the volunteers at the Small Busi-
ness Administration. They can provide valuable advice about the benefits of particular business structures: a sole proprietorship, a limited liability corporation, an S corporation, a C corporation or partnership. Your choice will have an impact on your tax payments, so it is essential to consult professionals about setting up your accounting system. 6. Part of the fun of owning your own business is naming it. The name of your business says everything about it. Put some serious thought into this. Your name should fit your present situation and particular niche now, but it should also fit if you expand into new products, services and markets. Check to make sure the name is not already in use. Otherwise, you may be forced to abandon your business name due to trademark or copyright infringement.

Trimming or removing trees from your property is difficult work, not something you’d want to attempt yourself. Making sure your trees are healthy while avoiding property damage requires emptying a professional tree service. Follow these tips to find a qualified, professional tree service in your area: Ask friends, family and neighbors. You may know someone who has used a tree service in the past. They can tell you who does the best work. Also, check newspaper, phone and Internet listings. Contact at least three tree services. Inform them of the situation and request a site inspection. It gives you the opportunity to ask about issues and get a feel for the experience and expertise of each company. Take notes so you can compare your results afterward. Find out how long each company has been in business, their experiences, references and whether they are licensed and insured. Check with the
Better Business Bureau for outstanding complaints. Even reliable companies may have a few problems. It is how they resolve the issue that counts. Request estimates. These figures can vary widely. Some companies are better equipped for certain jobs, so they can offer more competitive pricing. Other companies are slow or may be trying to “fillin” appointment slots with smaller jobs just to keep their crews busy. Don’t choose a company strictly by cost. Tree work is dangerous. Proper equipment, well-trained employees and insurance create high operating costs. It is worth paying more for peace of mind and excellent service. Look at a copy of their insurance policy. Coverage should include personal liability, property damage coverage, workers’ compensation and damaged vehicles or home coverage. Inspect their previous work by looking at their portfolio. Each tree service company has a work style. Verify that it suits your needs. Photos of past

Choosing a credit union Large banks and financial institutions are often the default choice for many when it comes to deciding where to house our money. They’re convenient and offer a wide variety of services, but they can also seem impersonal. If your seeking more personal service from a consumer-owned institution, credit unions my be the perfect fit. Credit unions are cooperatives in the truest sense of the word. They have existed for more than 100 years, springing from the idea that serving a group of unserved or underserved people as a group could prove economically feasible and offer an alternative to traditional banks. Today, they rank among the best micro-finance organizations available to large swaths of the population. Unlike big banks, which are owned by shareholders or conglomerates, credit unions are typically nonprofit operations owned by their members. Credit unions charge fewer and lower fees than for-profit banks. Ans any dividends go to the members instead of shareholders. In short, credit unions are a good deal. They usually offer better interest rates on savings accounts and competitive rates on various loans. You might get a fantastic rate on a student loan, mortgage, auto loan or credit card. And, like bigger banks, the federal government ensures credit union deposits up to $250,000. The first step in selecting a credit union is to research those in your community and their membership requirements. Some credit unions are available to employees of specific companies, groups of public service or school employees. But offers extend eligibility to anyone willing to follow their membership requirements. You may be asked to join a food co-op or other organization in order to qualify for membership. If you can’t find the rates online, call and ask them for the percentages Find out if there are any fees associated with the accounts you want to open. As with traditional savings and loan banks, you might be required to pay a fee if you fall below a minimum balance. Check about other requirements. You might need to use your debit card a certain amount of times each month. If you are in the market for a specific loan, research to see if the loan is issued by the credit union. Once you have found several credit unions offering that type of loan, compare interest rates and specials to see who has the best deal. Of course, convenience is something to keep
in mind. Check for availability of online services, weekday and weekend hours, where branches and ATMs are located. You should also understand any fees associated with ATM or debit card usage. If you use ATMs frequently, those charges can add up fast. Some credit unions belong to a nation network of credit unions for shared services. It might mean more access to ATMs and other services in case you move or go on vacation. If you have children attending college in other cities, this can be useful. Once you have completed your research, make a list of the advantages and disadvantages of each credit union. You can easily compare them. Upon choosing your credit union, visit the branch so you can understand all of the services. Learn more about the benefits of membership.
Families spend a lot of time in their kitchens — and not simply to eat. It’s often the prime entertaining and gathering space. An outdated kitchen can make cooking and gathering less fun for friends and family, and make cooking a chore rather than an exciting experience. Kitchen remodeling is the No. 1 project for many homeowners, but many delay it because the process can seem so expensive and daunting. But hiring an experienced, qualified contractor can spare kitchen nightmares and bring your design dreams to life. Here’s some factors to consider when hiring a kitchen remodeling company. How to choose a pool or spa Homes with pools and spas are often the subject of envy, but they are no longer the exclusive privilege of the wealthy. All but the most extravagant models of spas and pool designs are within financial reach of many Americans. Adding a pool or spa mean you can enjoy the relaxing benefits of water therapy any time you please — by yourself or with your family or guests — without sharing with strangers and the inconvenience of leaving your home. Whether you’re an avid swimmer or just enjoy relaxing in the water, your specific desires will lead you to choose which best accommodates your needs. But deciding on which can mean taking into consideration such factors as price, space and maintenance.
SPAS
If you’re worried about the price, you probably shouldn’t be. Home spas have become quite affordable in recent years. As a result, they are also very popular. Installation of a home spa can also be a cinch, with a growing number of plug and play models and even portable ones that you can take with you on vacation. The home-spa industry has worked hard to incorporate innovations, such as ozonators and aromatherapy fragrances. Spas often found in highend hotels and resorts are now available for the average consumer. You may be able to purchase some of these models at your favorite big-box store or home-improvement center. You can also purchase a home spa with a media center, along with therapeutic and LED lighting. Watch your favorite DVD or TV program while relaxing in the tub. The best spas include hydrotherapy, which will help you heal and repair your body. Tubs with water jets will massage muscles, improve circulation, relax nerves and ease pain. The water suspends your tired muscles in weightlessness, allowing them to rest. People with chronic back problems often report relief. Custom spas are also available. You can have it built to meet your specifications. Everyone has a different reason for installing a home spa, and manufacturers are happy to accommodate your requests.
POOLS
At-home swimming pools are another favorite for health-conscious people. These pools are not like your typical in-ground blue bathtub. Natural

Before purchasing your pool, decide whether you would like an in-ground or above-ground pool. Above-ground pools are less expensive, but many people prefer the durability and overall look of an in-ground pool. Take time to think about your decision. After all, your pool is a major investment. It will be a part of your home for many years. Consider the landscaping around your pool. There are many possible finishes for the decking alone. You can also choose the materials, style and features. Sometimes the environment around a pool can seem as relaxing as stepping foot in the water. It’s a fact that most people build their dream pool over a number of years as it fits their budget. You don’t have to do everything at once. Just start with a high-quality installation and a vision of what you want the area to become. You can add more features later. With so many advances in home spas and swimming pools, combined with their affordability, it makes sense to install one on your property. After all, wouldn’t it be nice to have your own private resort without the hassle of leaving home?

How to choose a dog trainer Teaching your dog obedience will make a huge difference in your relationship, especially if you have just taken on a new, untrained dog. And even old dogs, as they say, can learn new tricks. While dogs are incredibly intelligent animals, without proper training, most will not reach their full potential. The consistency in reinforcing habits and a little investment of time and money you could change a puppy or even an adult dog that has some bad habits into a well-behaved friend. A good trainer will turn your dog into a valuable companion. Here are some things to consider when looking for a competent dog trainer.
POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT
The American Humane Society recommends only using trainers that practice positive reinforcement with your pet, using food, play time, praise and attention to encourage good behaviors. It’s a good idea to watch the trainer in action before committing to them. See what techniques they use, how they interact with dogs and whether you’re comfortable with those interactions. The Humane Society also lists some training techniques to avoid, including: — Yelling — Choking — Shaking the scruff — Tugging on the leash — Forcing the dog onto its back — Any actions that cause fright or inflict pain Fortunately, positive reinforcement has become the dominant method in dog training today, so you’re likely to find plenty of trainers who use praise and attention to effectively encourage good behaviors from your pet.
ASK AROUND
If you’re looking for a well-behaved dog, there’s a place you can always go for advice: the people who own well-behaved dogs. If you know someone who has the seemingly perfect pet, ask them who their trainer is. They should be happy to share advice and let you know who has had a role in training their dogs, along with feedback on how the process went. It’s best to find several good trainers to pick from, so make a short list based on your research and talking with other dog owners. Trainers aren’t usually regulated by the government, so do your own research about the level of qualifications and years of experience for each trainer you talk with.
CLASS FORMATS
In general, it’s best for the dog’s owner — and even the whole family, if possible — to participate in the training process. Classes that involve the owner are likely to get the best results for a variety of reasons. For one, you’ll be able to talk to other dog owners and watch how they interact with their pets. You’ll be able to learn as much as your pets do about getting them to behave at home. For another, your dog will more comfortably transition their training to your house if you’ve been involved in the training process. If you leave your dog with a trainer without getting involved, they may end up responding better to the trainer than they do to you at home.
OTHER QUESTIONS
When you go to observe a dog trainer in action, the American Humane Society recommends you
note the following things: — Is class size limited to allow for individual attention? — Are there separate classes for puppies and adult dogs? — Are there different class levels (for example, beginner, intermediate, and advanced)? — Are training equipment and methods humane? — Does the trainer use a variety of methods to meet dogs’ individual needs? — Is proof of vaccination required? — Are the students, both human and canine, enjoying themselves? — Are dogs and owners actively encouraged? — Is praise given frequently? — Are voice commands given in upbeat tones? — Are lesson handouts available? — Is information available on how dogs learn, basic grooming, problem solving, and related topics?

How to choose kitchen and bath design Trends in home design come and go, but the basic look of modern kitchens and baths tends to remain consistent, with some variations to complement the style of the home. Granite or quartz countertops, stainless steel and hardwood floors retain their popularity. Any builder or real estate agent will tell you that upgraded, stylish kitchens and bathrooms are the most in-demand areas of a home to remodel for your own comfort and pleasure or to sell your home. Kitchen and bath remodeling can improve your home’s value and increase its charm. This is especially true if your current kitchen and baths are dated and showing their age. And while remodeling can be costly, these are areas where you don’t want to cut corners. After all, you use your kitchen and bath every day you are in your home. If it’s time for some updates in your home, here are some things to consider with regard to kitchen and bath remodeling.
FUNCTION
Functionality is paramount. What exactly will you be doing in this room? Do you eat in your kitchen, or in a dining room? Some people get dressed in their bathroom, while others put on clothing in their bedrooms. Make a list of all the activities you perform in the room. Prioritize this list from most important to the least. Upon finishing this list, figure out the items you need to store in your bathroom or kitchen. Do you really need to have the washer and dryer near your kitchen or bathroom? Can you create a closet in your bathroom? Next, create a floor plan. Think about your traffic pattern as you complete tasks. When you are tired from a hard day, you will be glad you thought ahead. Some people use their kitchen to entertain guests. If that is your preference, include it in your floor plan. You might want to add a bar or table for entertaining. Everyone wishes that they had more storage space, so be sure to build it into your design.
DÉCOR
Look for inspiration. Leaf through home design magazines to find appealing designs. Make notes on what you like most about each design scheme. Also consider watching home design shows or looking on the internet. You can often find the most up-to-date information from those sources.
Why have thousands of homeowners come to SITK since 1989 for their kitchen and bath projects? It’s pretty simple - wonderful design help, amazing showroom ideas, and competitive pricing. If you are redecorating to sell your home, keep in mind what future homeowners may enjoy. In the kitchen, consider using stainless steel appliances. They usually are easy to clean. Neutral flooring is always a good option. These floor coverings consist of sustainable, low-maintenance material. They are a good choice for any kitchen or bathroom. Neutral paint may open up opportunities for a variety of decorating options. It could make it easier to change the decor in the future. If you sell your home, it allows potential buyers to visualize their own preferences in that space. Of course, any room you design must be coordinated with the design of other rooms in your home. If your house has a contemporary, modern or traditional design, you will want the kitchen and bath to blend with that decor. Experts suggest that you spend most of your money on countertops. It is often a focal point in any room. Small accent pieces can also help boost your design. Pick unique pieces that display your personality.
BUDGET
Remodeling can be expensive. Experts recommend you spend up to 20 percent of your home’s value on remodeling the kitchen, and less than that on remodeling the bath. You can save money by adding a coat of fresh paint to your current kitchen cabinets or installing energy efficient appliances. Leave some room in your budget to hire a professional to do electrical and plumbing work, along with other chores you are uncomfortable with doing yourself. It will save you money in the long run.

Accidents happen and when they occur, they can turn your everyday world upside down. Having a good personal injury attorney to help you navigate this crisis is crucial for multiple reasons. For example, imagine you were involved in a traffic collision multiple people, agencies, and companies will be involved. A police officer would have come to the scene to assist, investigate, and generate a Traffic Crash Report. The officer also would provide you with a Motorist Report to complete. As a result of the collision your injury may require an ambulance transport you to a nearby hospital for treatment. The first several days and weeks following a traffic collision are typically devoted to your medical care and treatment. Your injuries may require multiple different doctors, at multiple different locations, that can last for weeks, months, a year, or longer. Your treating physician may place restrictions on you that prevent you from working. You will receive numerous medical bills. You will receive calls or correspondence from your car insurance, your health insurance, the at fault party’s car insurance, medical providers, and others. You might not be sure you need an attorney, but likely you do.
STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS:
Personal injury claims typically have a statute of limitation, which is a law that sets the time period a party to a claim has to initiate legal proceedings against another party. Most personal injury claims such as an automobile collision generally have a two-year statute of limitation. However, there are instances where you may be limited to a one-year limitation or an even shorter notice provision requirement. For example, if the at fault driver in the scenario, was intoxicated, and that intoxication came from a local tavern, you have a potential dram shop claim against the tavern in addition to your motor vehicle negligence claim. Dram shop claims generally have a one-year statute of limitation. One year can go by rather quickly while one is treating for injuries, therefore it is always recommended you seek a personal injury attorney as soon as possible.
MAXIMIZING YOUR POTENTIAL RECOVERY:
One of the biggest benefits of enlisting a personal injury attorney as soon as possible is a good personal injury attorney will be able to help you strategize all of your potential recoveries. For example, if the at fault driver was within the course and scope of his employment, the employer can be
held responsible. A good personal injury attorney will have the resources and knowledge to properly investigate a claim. For example, if the accident requires a reconstructionist the attorney will have the proper contacts to achieve this. A good personal injury attorney will help you navigate your own automobile insurance policy provisions, the at fault parties’ automobile insurance provisions as well as the provisions provided by your own health insurance. Good personal injury attorneys understand the subrogation rights your auto insurance carrier and health insurance carrier may have and can help you maximize your recovery putting more money in your pocket. Often, when injured people try to handle this by themselves, they make choices that ultimately leave them with less in their pocket. The at fault insurance company is not on your side, and it’s interests are contrary to yours. A good personal injury attorney will help maximize your recovery.
FREE CONSULTATIONS:
A good personal injury attorney typically will
not charge a fee for a consultation. Consultations are vital to both the attorney and client in establishing trust and understanding. Both the attorney and client need to be comfortable and confident with each other. A consultation provides an opportunity for both attorney and client to see if each other are a good fit. This consultation is your time to take advantage and ask the attorney questions. Pay attention to the answers the attorney gives you. His answers should be forthright and clear.
KNOW HOW TO IDENTIFY A GOOD PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEY:
Picking a good attorney is crucial to your outcome. You will want to search for one that is reputable and delivers results. One of the most common and widely used practices in searching for attorney is by word of mouth referral from a family or friend. Another commonly used avenue is web searching. Check attorney websites in your area. A good attorney will typically highlight their websites with their personal results, pivotal cases, settlements and verdicts achieved.

How to choose a computer repair specialist Modern desktop and laptop computers are far less prone to breaking down than they used to be. Indeed, by design newer machines prohibit taking them apart lest you violate a manufacturer’s warranty. But that doesn’t mean they never have issues or you need to ship your computer off to the factory if it does break down. Qualified repair specialists — from company experts at Apple Stores to local experts in your neighborhood shops — exist to fix what ails your machine. Here are some things to consider if you’re looking for someone to work on your computer:
TYPE OF DEVICE
The ideal specialist is someone who has successfully fixed many computers. You don’t want someone using your machine for on-the-job training. Ask how long they’ve worked on computers and how they keep up with new innovations. Experienced specialists attend seminars or classes to learn about the latest operating systems and hard-

In the world of computers, experience and skill carry more weight than a diploma.
PRICE
As with most essential services, don’t automatically choose the person who offers you the lowest rate. If something goes wrong during a repair, you may have to pay additional fees to solve the problem. But that doesn’t mean the highest priced vendor will offer you the best quality or service. Small shops and individuals typically have the best deals because they don’t up sell you on services or software that you don’t need.

Do you use a PC (personal computer) or a Mac (Macintosh)? Most computer specialists will focus on only one system. If there’s a picture of an apple on your computer, you have a Mac. If you are unsure, chances are you have a PC. PCs and Macs are quite different from each other. Choose a technician who focuses on your brand of computer. Is your computer a desktop or a laptop system? They often have unique issues, so find someone who can work on your type of computer. Desktop systems consist of a tower, monitor, keyboard and mouse, though Macs are often self-contained with only a keyboard and mouse. Laptops are self-contained in a package that travels easily. If your tablet or smartphone is giving you trouble, be sure to find someone who specializes in those devices. Someone in your social network has likely had computer issues. Ask them for recommendations. You might also consult with the IT department at your workplace. They will be able to point you in the right direction. Electronic vendors often have a help desk who can also suggest qualified technicians in your area. Or the store might have specialists on staff that can help you. You can also use your local newspaper as a resource. Oftentimes, computer specialists have promotions and specials that can save you money.

How to choose a plumber Nothing spells a kitchen or bathroom crisis like a clogged drain or toilet. Both areas are subject to heavy use and hair, food and other debris can overwhelm capacity. While most tackle these issues themselves, not all plumbing problems can be solved with a plunger or a drain snake. Clogged or loose pipes can create a major home or business nightmare, so if you’ve exhausted your do-it-yourself options it’s time to bring in a professional plumber. A competent, experienced plumber will ensure your house or business stays comfortable and sanitary by diagnosing problems and determining the best available fix. Here are some tips to help you find the best plumber.
CHOOSE AHEAD OF TIME
First and foremost, don’t wait until you have a plumbing emergency to start finding a good plumber in your town. Waiting until you have an urgent need is a common mistake. Emergencies leave you open to dealing with unscrupulous people. There is also a good chance that you will pay too much for their services. As soon as you can, begin your search for a plumber to service your home.
ASK FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Friends and family members may be able to refer you to an excellent professional. Good word-ofmouth recommendations are the best way to find excellent service. Look for people in your local area. Sometimes, plumbers may charge extra if you are not in their designated service region.
SEARCH ONLINE
Consider looking online for a good plumber. Just remember that information on the internet is not always correct. Be mindful of who is giving a stellar customer review. Look closely for complaints about shoddy work or high prices. Dissatisfied customers are more likely to talk about their experiences. Of course, one person’s bad experience may not accurately reflect what you can expect. Look for multiple reports from different sources before drawing a conclusion.
COMPARE PRICES
Cost should always play a role in picking a plumber. Contact at least three different plumbers to get an idea of the differences in labor and material costs. They should be able to provide you with estimates for different services.
It is vital that you find a professional who knows what he is doing. Whatever you save up front could turn into extra expenses down the road if the work isn’t done correctly.
ASK QUESTIONS
Asking questions is the best way to form expectations. Not only should you understand labor rates, but you should also know if there are any
guarantees on work. Find out how long the plumber has been in business and where he received his training. The bottom line is that you need to hire someone who cares about their customers and their homes. Conducting a thorough search before an emergency will prevent you from being disappointed.

Plumbing is an essential part of your Bathroom!
Windows take a lot of abuse from the weather, so ensuring you have the strongest glass that deflects the effects of storms, cold and heat is a solid investment in your comfort and protection that will also save you money. But most people want their windows to also reflect a certain style. Window glass and frames come in a large variety of styles to complement any decor, but choosing the right windows to satisfy each of these requirements requires some research. If you’re ready to invest in new windows, here are a few topics you need to understand.
GLAZING
The actual glass in a window is called glazing. Many homes and older buildings have a single pane of glass within each frame. It is a traditional style; however, it is not energy-efficient. Double-glazed windows are the popular option. There are two panes of glass in a frame. The gap between the panes acts as a layer of insulation. It improves the window’s ability to maintain the building’s temperature. Sometimes, newer structures have triple-glazed windows. They are more expensive, but they also provide additional insulation benefits.
R-VALUES
R-values measure the amount of heat a window loses through its glass panes. Higher R-values mean more energy efficiency. An R-value of three is very desirable.
U-VALUES
U-values tell you the level at which a window conducts heat. The lower the U-value, the better. People who live in wintery climates should choose replacement windows with strong R-value and U-value ratings to conserve energy.
LOW-E
Low-emissive, or low-e windows, are the latest innovations in the energy-efficiency mark. Low-e glass traps heat by placing a thin metallic coating on the appropriate window pane. Indoor radiant heat is reflected back inside, cutting the burden on a building’s heating system. If you live in a cold climate, install a low-e window as a complement to low U-value components. People who live in sunnier, warmer climates can also take advantage of low-e windows. The summer’s higher levels of infrared rays are reflected back outside, keeping the interior of the house cooler.
Planning a window project? Talk the the experts at Maze Lumber in Peru. Pictured is Joe Salz, over 30 years in building material sales. UV FACTORS
Blocking UV rays will spare your carpets and furniture from sun damage. That’s why a window with high ultra-violent blockage is recommended, especially for people who live in warm climates.
CASEMENT WINDOWS
When energy efficiency is a key concern, casement windows are the best choice. This simple high-and-crank design lowers air seepage. When the wind pushes against the glass, the seal becomes tight and reduces leakage. Casement windows are hinged on the sides. When the windows have top hinges, they are called awning windows. Hoppers are bottom-hinged windows. Hinged windows must be maintained, as the seal erodes over time. When left unchecked, the erosion can make the window less energy efficient. Other Factors Large differences between interior and exterior temperatures create meddlesome condensation
on glass. Always choose a window appropriate for your climate. Window placement is another factor when building a new structure. Consider the building’s position and location as they relate to the sun. Windows facing the south let in more heat than north-facing windows. Properly placed, a window can increase a structure’s passive solar efficiency. Extreme temperatures cause frames and seals to deteriorate more quickly. Windows using warmair technology and adequate spacers reduce temperature fluctuations, placing less strain on seals and framing. Before beginning any improvement project to your home or business, understand the building codes in your area. You may need a permit to do a major window-replacement project. If you don’t have the required paperwork in order, you might have to pay a fine and remove the work that’s already been done and start over. Knowing basic terminology and concepts before you shop for windows will save you time and money in the long run. It is really less complicated than it looks.

How to avoid knee surgery The rise in osteoarthritis among Americans leads many of them to consider surgery for knee replacement. Fortunately, going under the knife should no longer be the first thought for those in chronic knee pain. There are several minimally invasive options and cutting-edges therapies available to treat pain. And studies suggest that non-surgical treatment, such as exercise, weight loss and other lifestyle changes, can do much to alleviate knee arthritis. Here are some things to consider if chronic knee pain is slowing you down:
REDUCING AND ELIMINATING PAIN
Exercise and physical therapy can be a great way to help you avoid a surgical solution. Be sure to talk to a specialist before starting any exercise program or therapy. You do not want to risk damaging the knee even more. After heavy movement or exercise, rest your knees for a bit. It will reduce the possibility of additional stress to the joints. If you are in pain, take a rest. Then go slowly, take time off from rigorous activity at first and then gradually reintroduce movement into your daily routine. Physical therapists use the “10 percent rule” when working with patients. This rule is easy to follow. After a few days of rest, resume physical activity in 10 percent increments. If your body handles the increase well, continue increasing your activity by 10 percent each week until you are back at full length. During this time, consider replacing your shoes. Improper footwear is often the root cause of knee pain. It is especially true for women, who wear shoes that are more fashionable than functional. Wear flat shoes whenever possible. When heels are essential, consider wearing boots or shoes with wide heels. They provide more support than average heels. Adding arch supports inside your shoes will help alleviate knee pain. If you are addicted to heels, then don’t sacrifice style for comfort. Stuart Weitzman, a former podiatrist, creates shoes that promote healthy blood circulation and support.
ALTERNATIVES TO SURGERY
Taking a joint supplement that has glucosamine and MSM might help you. Consider that you must take these supplements consistently for six weeks to feel any effects. Also, drinking warm gelatin can lubricate your joints and relieve discomfort on a temporary basis.
Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Mitchell consulting a knee replacement patient.
The more you move, the more you lubricate your joints. So get adequate exercise. Exercising with free weights is an excellent way to add strength and stability. Yoga, especially Bikram and Hot Yoga, will increase your flexibility. Losing weight, even just 10 to 15 pounds, will reduce the stress on your knees. Some people find they do not need surgery after dropping weight. Support braces will keep your joints aligned. They will boost your knee strength so you can continue with your daily activities.
Hyaluronic and Botox injections are another popular method of relieving pain. Your doctor might also provide corticosteroids, which will reduce inflammation. Choose injections rather than oral steroids because they have fewer associated side effects. With simple changes to your lifestyle, you might be able to avoid surgery. Talk to your doctor to see if one or more of these ideas are the right solution for you.

Finding a good appliance store
Meet Heather our appliance specialist. Stop in our showroom at 404 Main Street in McNabb or give her a call anytime to find that perfect appliance. Buying a big-ticket item such as an appliance is a major investment. You might be lulled into a shopping after seeing advertisements and sales featuring new appliances with all the latest features and technology. Or you may just need to replace an aging appliance on its last legs. Either way, it’s smart to figure out what you really need, how much you can afford and which stores offer the best quality and deals. Chances are you’ve already done some research or quizzed friends or family about their own experiences with various appliances, but shopping for one can be daunting. But it can also be fun. These days appliance manufacturers produce items that have every conceivable feature to make your life easier. Exploring these innovations in home appliance technology can be an enjoyable and eye-opening experience. We’ve put together some tips that can help you narrow your search and find exactly what you need. But first you’ll have to determine your budget and requirements — what you need, what you want and what you’re willing to pay for it. Now, it’s time to go shopping.
SHOPPING ONLINE
First, do an internet search for appliance stores in your area. Local stores are easier to work with and you will likely be able to get your appliance
much quicker than if you had to go out of the area or order it. If your refrigerator has stopped working, this is especially important. Many appliance stores also offer free delivery in the local area. You can get a good idea of the services offered by various companies via business review sites. Don’t dismiss negative reviews, but keep in mind that customers who have good experiences are less likely to crow on the internet. Consumer Reports and the Better Business Bureau are also great resources for finding reputable businesses. To qualify for listing on the Better Business Bureau site, the business must be reliable and honest. Many stores also have review sections for customers to leave comments, reviews and ratings for the services and the products they sell, which can give you some insight into the business and their products.
ADVERTISEMENTS
For most of us, getting a good deal is probably a top concern when shopping for appliances. Check your local newspaper and your mailbox for circulars announcing the latest, greatest deals on appliances in your area. Many stores will use price-matching to stay competitive. Not all stores have policies on price-matching, so be sure to ask first. If you can
find a lower advertised price on the exact same product and model elsewhere, many stores will sell you the product for that price. As always, conduct research on the appliance you need to make sure you are spending money wisely. Not all appliances are the same; just because one manufacturer was excellent two decades ago doesn’t mean the quality will be the same now.
STORE POLICIES
Review the store’s policies about warranties and repairs. If the appliance comes with a one-year manufacturer’s warranty, you might not need an additional warranty from the store. Appliances have a yearly sale-price cycle. Washers and dryers usually go on sale during the winter. Refrigerators are often discounted in the spring, with stoves and ovens dropping in price during the fall. If you don’t need it right away, consider shopping seasonally for the best deal. Consider these questions when you’re looking for an appliance store: Do they have a delivery window, warranty options, repair services and range of products? Answer these questions, and know that you’ll purchase appliances with confidence.

How to choose kitchen cabinets Cabinets are the focal point and of any kitchen. They set the tone for the rest of the kitchen and come ahead of only flooring as the defining feature. Choosing the right cabinets isn’t easy, but with some thought and research you can be certain you’ve unlocked the key to a great looking kitchen design. And here’s some good news: You can spruce up your dated cabinets on a budget if you need to with a simple sand and stain job. But if you’re looking at replacing the cabinets altogether, don’t skimp on cost. Many experts recommend spending up to 20 percent of your home’s value on any remodeling project. For a home valued at $100,000, for instance, homeowners might spend up to $20,000 on updating the kitchen. Of that money, about 40 percent should be spent on cabinets alone. Why spend so much money on cabinets? Because they are the focal point of your kitchen, they must be attractive and useful. And if you’re planning on selling, high-quality cabinets will appeal to a wide selection of buyers. If you plan on staying put, they will bring you years of function and use. Here’s some tips to help you get started on your search.
CUSTOM CABINETS
Custom-built cabinets are an excellent choice because they allow you to choose any style you want. You’re only limited by imagination. Specify the color, hinges, pulls rollers and even have special finish applied to the cabinets. It is essential to work with a professional. Ask your friends and family if they know experienced cabinetmakers. Tradesmen in your area will likely know cabinetmakers. If you are using a contractor, solicit him or her for recommendations. Visit two or three custom builders in your area and discuss your preferences. Ask to see their work. Be sure to outline your budget and specifications. A professional will give you a reasonable timeframe. You may need to live for an extended period of time without a kitchen, and that can be difficult. Take a look at special finishes. Some people adore the antique or distressed look. Other people prefer to have the cabinets match other colors in the kitchen. Your custom cabinet builder should apply the finish himself. Check the quality of the materials the builder is using. Hinges, heavy duty slides and ¾-inch solid wood should have a lifetime guarantee. You may need to change the cabinets once you have ordered them. Ask about the consequences should this situation arise. There may be an addi-

Get everything in writing. Most cabinetmakers are honest and hardworking people, but a contract should stipulate what is expected of both parties. Do not sign anything until you understand the contract and have read it completely. Choose a company that has a long track record. You should be able to find them if the need arises. Quality companies will also allow you to order

special sizes. They will be slightly more expensive, but you will appreciate the results. Regardless of the choices you make, always choose to purchase cabinets from a company that has been in business for a long time. They should be good at what they do. Look at their previous work and get in touch with previous customers. Once you do this legwork, there is no doubt you will be happy with the results.
Funeral planning is not the most pleasant subject, but it makes sense to consider options whether you are facing such a decision about a loved one or want to ensure your own funeral follows your wishes. More frequently, people are choosing cremation. In fact, more than half of Americans chose cremation over traditional burials in recent years, according to the National Funeral Director’s Association. The reasons are numerous. Among them, cremation is cheaper than a traditional funeral and it has become more acceptable to the baby boom generation and those who are younger. And it is important to note that most cremations are also part of a memorial service or viewing. Still, making the decision between a traditional burial and cremation requires many factors beyond simply the cost. First and foremost are the wishes of your loved one. So if they’ve opted for cremation, or if they have no preference, cremation may be the most cost-effective way to achieve both. Making decisions in advance about cremation services can take the burden off loved ones during a painful time. Otherwise, they will need to make tough choices while stressed and grieving. With cremation, the family doesn’t have to purchase an expensive casket. Loved ones may spend more money than they can afford in an effort to respect the memory of the deceased. But a cremation service is an affordable way to respectfully memorialize a friend or family member. The service can be a peaceful time to grieve and remember. A funeral home may have a partnership or connection with a cremation center. They may have additional services, such as grief counseling or assistance with necessary paperwork. After the cremation, you will receive an urn. You can choose to bury the urn, keep it in your home or place it in a memorial building. When searching for a cremation center, check
with your family or friends for referrals. If you cannot get an appropriate referral, you might be able to join a cremation society. For a small fee, you will receive up-to-date information about your options and the process. Membership may also help you obtain a lower-cost on cremation services. These societies will provide assistance with many details connected to the service and disposition of remains. The Internet Cremation Society and the Cremation Society of North America are sources of information about cremation societies. Once you have narrowed your choices, consider how you feel about the staff of the cremation center. You should feel comfortable asking questions. The
employees should be knowledgeable, competent and pleasant. They should give you all of the details about price breakdowns, and their process of making ashes for the urn. By doing a little research and choosing wisely, you can make the process a little easier for loved ones during a difficult time. Discuss with your loved ones and family members their preference for when they pass. Talk with them and explain your own so that there will not be any misunderstandings or second-guessing after the fact.

How to choose a fencing company If you’re thinking about building a fence at your home, start by getting in touch with a quality fencing specialist. Although building a fence around your property can be a DIY project, some underestimate the time and difficulty involved. Choosing a fencing company to complete your project will ensure it is built on time and on budget. An experienced contractor will take into account obstructions, the grade of your lot and cover the many types of materials and styles available, and other factors. Here’s what you should look for in finding a quality fencing company:
EXPERIENCE
The first thing you should do when talking with a potential fence installer is ask about their background. While the length of time they have been in business is certainly a factor, so is the breadth of their experience in the industry. In other words, you want to make sure their background matches the job you have in mind. Another related factor is how well the fencing company knows your local market. Most cities have strict regulations that govern the materials, dimensions and locations of where fences are allowed to be installed. A good fencing contractor will have done plenty of jobs in your area and will be familiar with the restrictions and permitting process for your city, if one is required. Local knowledge can also lead to a better result in the end. The specific soil and climate in many locations can impact what types of fencing work best and how they need to be installed. The depth of posts, for example, can be an important factor in areas where the soil “moves” a lot with the seasons.
INSURANCE
As with any contractor who will be working on your property, it’s important to ask what type of insurance coverage the fencing company carries. Typical homeowner’s insurance policies don’t cover injuries that occur to contractors working on your home. The fencing company should carry their own liability policy to protect you from any accidents that might happen while constructing the fence on your property.
QUALITY OF WORK
The most important thing to consider is the quality of work you can expect to get. You can judge some of this on your own by looking for examples of their work in your area — par-

They offer quality materials and professional installation for lasting results. ticularly fences that are several years old so you can see how they hold up after receiving a lot of wear and weathering. Ask the company for testimonials and the addresses of some fences that you can see and check out in person. Seeing their work with your own eyes will tell you a lot about what you can expect from them on your own property. Also make sure you ask about what kind of warranty coverage their fences come with. Some companies that make the materials, such as vinyl fences, will cover those materials for a lifetime if they are installed correctly. And the people who install your fence should be able to provide a guarantee of their work for a certain period of time, too.
REPAIRS
Finally, make sure you understand the process for undertaking any repairs that might be required on your fence. If you’ve already got an older fence in place, you should be able to get a quote for repairing it or replacing a portion of it, depending on your budget. And if you’re having a new fence installed, get a clear understanding of how any repairs or adjustments will be handled going forward. It’s not
uncommon for gates to need a little adjustment, for example, as they settle and are exposed to the elements in the coming months, and good fencing companies will do those little repairs for free if they’re needed for a certain period of time. In the end, you should choose a fencing company that makes you feel comfortable as a homeowner. The best ones will have lots of positive recommendations and good-looking examples of their work all over town. Shop around for the company that has the best reputation in your area and provides top-notch customer service. Every time you enjoy the privacy and beauty of your new fence, you’ll be glad you did.

Looking for a new or even used car can be initially exciting. But soon after you’ve found the vehicle you want comes the negotiations — and the headaches. This often means getting financing through the dealer. Car dealers have an incentive to offer financing to as many people as possible in order to increase sales. But the dealer’s financing options might not always be your best bet. Many used-car dealers, for instance, make the bulk of their profits from financing the sale of their cars through high-interest loans. Believe it or not, many make more money from the loans than from the sale of the actual vehicles. So-called “zero-percent interest” loans served up by new-car dealers aren’t really loaning you money for free, either. Zero- or low-interest loans will generally require you to pay the full sticker price for the car, without the discounts or incentives other buyers get. That’s why it pays to shop for a loan separately before you even set foot on a car lot.
SHOP AROUND
Purchasing a car is one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll make, so it’s a good idea to spend just as much time researching your financing options as you spend researching the car. Getting approved for a loan from a bank or credit union ahead of time is a great way to do that. Apply for a loan before you decide what car to buy and you’ll know exactly how much car you can afford when you go shopping.
NEGOTIATING POWER
LOW INTEREST

Getting pre-approved for a car loan ahead of time will help you get the best combination of loan terms and interest rates for your situation. It gives you options instead of just taking whatever rate the dealer happens to offer.
FULL INCENTIVES
New-car dealers and manufacturers can offer some enticing ways to get you to buy their cars, trucks and SUVs. They usually offer huge discounts off full sticker price, along with various incentives for loyalty. Some offer extra money on your trade-in.
When it comes to financing, though, you usually have to make a choice. Get all those incentives, or get low- or no-interest financing instead. Get a loan from a bank or credit union, though, and you can have the best of both worlds. Having a pre-approved loan will let you focus just on the purchase price of your vehicle instead of stepping into the muddy waters of dealer or manufacturer financing. Make sure you do your math. Use an interest-rate calculator online to compare how much interest you’ll be paying over the life of your car loan to the incentives you’ll be missing out on if you choose zero-interest financing from the dealer.

You can essentially act like a cash buyer when you get pre-approved, shopping around for the lowest price and best incentives you can find regardless of the dealer financing options. You’ll also get better information on interest rates and your buying power. How do you know if the car dealer is really offering you good terms for the loan? Well, if you have a pre-approved loan from an outside lender, you’ll have at least one measuring stick for seeing how good of a deal you’re really getting on financing. The more loan quotes you have at your disposal, the clearer a picture you’ll have of what’s a good deal and what’s not in the loan marketplace.

How to choose a deli
If you’re looking for the finest sandwich meats, cheeses and side dishes available, you’ll want to visit your local delicatessen. It used to be difficult to find a quality deli outside major cities, but fine delis have sprung up almost everywhere — and we’re not talking about local grocery store. A great, independent deli is something beyond an extraordinary place to shop; it is a treasure. And excellent delis boasting mouth-watering showcases of meats, cheeses and pickles can bring back memories of a simpler time for many. Those stores are still with us today, and you don’t need to live in a major city to discover them. Try not to settle for a deli that isn’t genuine. You’ll be making a culinary mistake. An awesome store has these five components.
WIDE VARIETY OF FOOD
It goes without saying that you should find a variety of breads, meats, cheeses and vegetables. They usually even have them on display. The staff might encourage you to try a different combination each time you visit. Popular meats usually include bologna, ham, turkey and salami. You might find American, Swiss and cheddar cheese. But the best delis will offer other options such as pastramis, liverwurst,
hot corned beef and knishes. Delis also cater to local markets. Each region has its own specialty. Many delis offer fresh soups and a salad bar. Delectable desserts are available to go along with their tasty sandwiches.
FRESHNESS
All food should be fresh. Day-old bread is simply unacceptable. When the largest deli chain in America started, they promised that no bread would be older than four hours. That attention to freshness is still found in great delis today. All items should be made daily.
PRICES
A quality deli has distinctive food. You will be paying for high-quality meat, fresh vegetables and home-baked breads. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of dough. Look for daily specials. Establishments usually have a daily or weekly special. They might even offer a discount if you order during a certain time. Many delis offer specials for eating in the middle of the afternoon when business is typically slower. Also, delis might offer coupons in local newspapers or on websites. It is a great way to get new
customers to try their business.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
The employees at a quality deli appreciate your business. As soon as you enter, they should welcome you. They will fix your food promptly according to your order. The counter staff and cooks should be very clean. If they have long hair, it should be tied back and out of the way. Many states require food preparers to wear a hair net or hair covering.
CLEANLINESS
The establishment itself should be very clean, from the ceiling to the floor. Deli owners take great pride in their businesses. Look at the cleanliness of the utensils and tables. Quality delis prevent cross-contamination. There should be a health code rating posted prominently on a wall. You will likely find a great deli that offers quality products in your neighborhood. With fresh ingredients, home-baked bread and outstanding customer service, you can enjoy a fantastic sandwich at a reasonable price.
