Saka and the Gunners continue their title chase against Manchester City

Two of the English Premier League’s top teams face off in a highly anticipated match, with both clubs continuing their title chase, when Manchester City hosts Arsenal at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, Sunday, March 31, broadcasting live on NBC.

In what has shaped up to be the English Premier League’s closest title race in years, Manchester City and Arsenal have remained neck and neck in the standings all season long, with the Gunners walking away from their last meeting with a slim 1-0 victory. While Gunners star forward Bukayo Saka wasn’t able to contribute in the previous matchup against Manchester City due to injury, he has been on fire since his recovery, sitting Top 10 in both goals and assists, proving not only his value but his versatility and consistency as a high-end attacking threat in football.

Winning the EPL Player of the Month award in February, Saka and Arsenal went undefeated through all of February. However, against an elite Manchester City attacking squad, the Hale End graduate will need to be in top form in his team’s search for its first league title in 20 years.

For Manchester City, it will be looking to win its fourth consecutive league title, a feat that’s never been achieved, with Erling Haaland leading the EPL in goals, and additional contributions from Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez, all leading the team in scoring and sitting Top 20 in goals in the EPL.

While Manchester City may be favored to win it all once again, this season the team has the highest rate of conceding goals off their opponents’ first shot on target, having let in 28 goals in 28 games, something the Gunners will surely look to take advantage of — especially as they lead the league with 70 goals for and counting.

Talented Mr. ‘reboot’: Netflix gets gritty with ‘Ripley’ remake

Hollywood loves a charming sociopath, and for good reason. Divisive, morally ambiguous characters have a way of getting under the skin of the audience members and characters alike, staying within the fabric of each individual like a stubborn stain. As viewers try to sort out the motive behind the maniac, morals are called into question, boundaries are pushed and — for better or for worse — the most questionable events of the film often play on repeat in our heads.

Tom Ripley, who gives his surname to Netflix’s newest series, was first created in 1955 by thriller novelist Patricia Highsmith. While posthumously seen as somewhat of a divisive figure herself, Highsmith created Ripley to guide her would-be bestselling novel, “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” The novel spawned four sequels (published between 1970 and 1991) and grew to further acclaim in 1999, when it was adapted into the five-time Oscar-nominated feature film of the same name. Now, 69 years after Ripley’s birth, Netflix makes its mark on the classic tale.

The eight-episode thriller series, “Ripley,” premieres Thursday, April 4, on Netflix.

As those who have seen or read “The Talented Mr. Ripley” already know, the story, based in the 1960s, revolves around an enterprising but suspicious young man named Tom Ripley (Andrew Scott, “Fleabag”), who is hired by a wealthy American industrialist to find his son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn, “Emma,” 2020), and return him home to assume his duties in the family business. Little does the elder Mr. Greenleaf know, Ripley has little to no intention of bringing Dickie back stateside.

As Netflix puts it: “Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder.”

The highly stylized, black-and-white production marks leading man Scott’s first appearance since the sold-out West End stage production of “Vanya,” a modern take on Anton Chekov’s classic “Uncle Vanya.” Scott, who rose to fame as “the hot priest” in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s series “Fleabag,” can also be seen in the 2015 James Bond film “Spectre,” 2014’s biographical dramedy “Pride” and eight episodes of the Benedict Cumberbatch-led series “Sherlock,” to name a few.

Flynn, meanwhile, plays Dickie, a spoiled young man who prefers to spend his time and money lounging at Italy’s beaches and cafes over working for the industrial empire he is tapped to inherit. Some of Flynn’s credits to date include roles as Rory Lomax in “The Dig” (2021), Dylan in the Netflix series “Lovesick” and Mr. Knightley in the 2020 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma,” while his most anticipated upcoming role is arguably that of late fellow actor Richard Burton (“Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf,” 1966) in National Theatre Live’s “The Motive and the Cue” (which, like Scott’s “Vanya,” is a London-based stage production).

Q: Such a big deal was made about Susan Kelechi Watson of “This Is Us” joining “Will Trent,” why was her character killed off in the season premiere?

A: Though it wasn’t known before that episode aired in February, the ABC series had a specific purpose for making that move as it pertained to Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent Trent (played by Ramon Rodriguez) going forward. He and Watson’s explosives-expert character Cricket Dawson established a connection quickly, and it seemed that it would proceed rapidly from the professional to the personal, since they were planning to go on a date. What ultimately happened prevented that social occasion from happening, since Cricket didn’t have enough time to disarm a bomb that had been planted in the bureau’s parking garage. She was killed by the explosion, which she had tried to contain in a room within the garage … and her death added to the pain that Will already was trying to handle from other situations, including the murder of his biological mother and the strain of his complicated relationship with police detective Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen).

Though she might not be a lasting physical presence on “Will Trent,” then, Cricket still has a place on the show as a spectre destined to continue to haunt Will as he makes his way through the show’s sophomore round. The addition of the character did its job for the brief time Cricket was around, since that season-opening episode achieved a ratings high for the series up to that point – not an easy thing to achieve in its Tuesday time slot against another crime procedural, CBS’ well-established and much-watched “FBI.”

Q: Has Pam done anything since “The Office?

A: More than (almost) all the other folks who starred in the modern-day classic NBC sitcom “The Office,” Jenna Fischer would be perfectly happy to still be called Pam 11 years after the show ended.

That’s because one of the things she’s busiest with is her hugely successful podcast “Office Ladies,” in which she and co-star Angela Kinsey (“Never Have I Ever”), who played Angela from accounting, lean into ongoing nostalgia for the show.

“Office Ladies” has won multiple podcasting awards, and was even turned (briefly) into an animated series on Comedy Central.

But Fischer is far from being a one-trick Pammy (superfans around the country are currently shouting “Don’t call her Pammy” right now, which is a quote from Season 3).

Earlier this year she appeared in the high-profile hit “Mean Girls,” a remake of the 2004 high school classic. She played Ms. Heron, mother to the main character, Cady (Angourie Rice, “The Nice Guys”).

That’s just the latest stuff. In between, she tried to recreate her sitcom success by toplining a couple of others. The first, “You, Me and the Apocalypse,” put her back on NBC’s prime time schedule, but it was canceled after one 10-episode season. The second one lasted a little longer: “Splitting Up Together” aired two seasons on ABC from 2018 to 2019.

And “Mean Girls” wasn’t her only big-screen foray, either. She previously appeared in the super-prestigious 2018 drama “The 15:17 to Paris,” directed by the super-prestigious Clint Eastwood (“Million Dollar Baby,” 2004).

A: Sandra Oh went from one of the biggest shows on TV (“Grey’s Anatomy,” in which she starred for nine years from 2005 to 2014) to one of the most acclaimed shows on TV (“Killing Eve,” which won dozens of awards in its four years on AMC, from 2018 to 2022).

After that remarkable run, rather than just taking it easy for a few years, she dove head-first into a burgeoning voice career, while also seeking out chances to play against type.

If you haven’t seen her since 2022, you’ve probably heard her in the very high-profile animated films “Turning Red” (2022) or “The Tiger’s Apprentice” (2024), or the hit animated series “Invincible.”

Last year, Oh appeared (onscreen this time) in Hulu’s “Quiz Lady,” a made-forstreaming film about two estranged sisters who have to come together to hide their mother’s gambling debts. Oh, who also produced the film, was originally supposed to play the more buttoned-down sister but asked at the last minute to play the wild one instead for variety’s sake.

“There’s a lot of physical comedy in there, and I actually really like it,” she told ScreenRant.com. “I really liked doing it. I just have not had the opportunity, let’s say, to be able to.”

Meanwhile, on the other end of the acting spectrum, she also found time to do an indie horror film, 2022’s “Umma.” She played a mother whose quiet farm life is disturbed with the arrival of her own mother’s remains from Korea.

Solution-seers: PBS docuseries delves into problem-solving for the future

No one can see into the future, but we can make it brighter with a little hard work and determination. From writer and director Andrew Morgan (“The True Cost,” 2015), the eye-opening, six-part docuseries, “A Brief History of the Future,” premieres Tuesday, April 2, on PBS.

According to a description given by the network, the series “invites viewers on a journey around the world that is filled with discovery, hope and possibility about where we find ourselves today and what could come next,” allowing us a glimpse into the technologies, ideologies and solutions of tomorrow, while offering a positive spin on what can often be an overwhelming topic.
