If you’re a fan of motorsport racing, then Marcus Ericsson is sure to ring a bell.

Born on September 2, 1990, in Kumla, Sweden, Ericsson currently competes in the NTT IndyCar Series, and since 2020 has been driving the No.8 Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing. However, like all talented drivers, there is always the starting line.

Ericsson began his racing career at the early age of nine, competing in go-kart racing, and working his way up the European ranks. Gaining experience and confidence, he eventually would move up to single-seater racing in 2007. Ericsson would go on that year to win the Swedish Formula BMW Championship, officially kick-starting his professional racing career.

Following a successful rookie debut, he competed in various Formula Three series races, coming third place in 2008, and finally winning the British Formula Three Championship the following year. This would pave the track to a higher level of competition for Ericsson; joining the Formula One feeder series, GP2. After a successful three years competing in the GP2 Series, and finishing the 2013 campaign as a runner-up, it marked a pivotal moment in the Swedes racing career.

2014 would be Ericsson’s official Formula One debut. While only spending one season with his debut team, and four with Sauber, Ericsson was never able to secure a podium finish while competing in Formula One. However, it would be the experience gained that would later prove to be valuable, as his move to the IndyCar Series in 2018 would shift his career into high gear.

Joining Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and making his IndyCar Series debut in 2019, Ericsson placed 17th in Championship standings, with his best performance at Belle Isle coming in 7th, making it an exceptional debut season behind the wheel.

Looking to continue his success, Ericsson would join Chip Ganassi Racing in 2020, finishing 12th in overall standings that year, including four top-five finishes. However, 2021 would prove to be his most successful yet. He would finish the season 5th in championship standings, seven top-five finishes, 12 top-ten finishes, including coming in first place at the Indianapolis 500.

Ericsson will be looking for another victory at this years Indianapolis 500, one of the most prestigious races in the world of motorsport. The Swedes’ experience and skill will make him a strong contender for this year’s Indy 500 title.

Fans will be eagerly watching as the Indianapolis 500 airs on NBC Sunday, May 28.

Hot TV: ‘Hot Wheels’ competition comes to NBC

Unlock some memories and kick it into high gear with NBC’s newest competition series, “Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge.”

Premiering Tuesday, May 30, the unscripted show is equal parts “nostalgia and creativity” (per NBC) as each contestant overhauls one of their most beloved and memorable vehicles, ultimately transforming it from an average automobile into their dream car. Hosted by “Top Gear’s” Rutledge Wood and featuring a panel of car-loving celebrity guests, “Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge” is inspired by childhood fun and a healthy dose of friendly competition.

NBC describes its new 10-episode competition as follows: “Each episode will invite two passionate car fans and Hot Wheels lovers into the Chrome Zone, where they will face off in each transforming an ordinary vehicle into an extraordinary Hot Wheels showstopper, inspired by personal stories and pop culture touchstones. Working alongside a team of automotive magicians known as ‘The Car Pool,’ the two Superfans will manufacture their designs in high-tech, decked-out garages.” There is also a chance to raise the stakes via “the Inspirationator 5000, a larger-than-life vending machine

that will rev up in each episode to present the Superfans with a twist in the road.” While Wood acts as host, he will surely not be the only familiar face seen during the wild ride. Among the celebrity judges making an appearance on “Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge” are “Community” and “The Soup’s” Joel McHale; comedian and star of the recently finished sitcom “Blackish,” Anthony Anderson; WWE Superstar Ettore Ewen, better known by the moniker Big E; and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star and “America’s Got Talent” host Terry Crews. Perhaps unsurprisingly, two famous car lovers are also welcomed to the show’s premiere season as guest judges: former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno and star of the Fast and Furious saga, Sung Kang.

Leno, who also hosts the web series “Jay Leno’s Garage,” is the proud owner of roughly 180 cars and 160 motorcycles, valued at more than $52 million. Widely recognized as one of the most knowledgeable car fanatics in Hollywood, Leno will bring his insight and interest to “Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge” as he assesses the final products presented by the eager contestants

The penultimate episode of this Italian cooking competition sees the remaining chefs’ finale plans turned upside down as judges Alex Guarnaschelli and Gabe Bertaccini invite some former contestants back for a shot at redemption in this episode of “Ciao House,” airing Sunday, May 28, on Food Network. Q: As “Barry” wraps up its four-season run, how do you reflect on having had the job?

A: I was 27 when I came to Hollywood, and I got The Fonz (on “Happy Days”). And then, I was 72 when I got the call from (co-creators) and executive producers) Bill (Hader) and Alec (Berg) to be in “Barry.” I am overwhelmed that I work with these great people. I mean, every one of them. And I am overwhelmed that I continue to live my dream, actually.

Q: How have you approached your “Barry” character, acting coach Gene Cousineau?

PUZZLE SOLUTIONS

A: Gene tries to be the best teacher he can be. And I have had the experience of holding master classes, and it is one of my favorite things. I’m not sure I know what I’m talking about, but whatever I’m feeling about what the actors in front of me are doing.

It is my pleasure to try and get them to taste something different than they came into the room with … just by pushing them a little bit. So, it goes back and forth. I take Gene with me, and I bring Henry to Gene.

Q: How did it work for you at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in making “Barry” without being in the same physical space as most of the other talents on the show?

A: It seemed like, because of the way it worked out, we were all in our pods and none of us crossed over and met other characters except for Bill. Everybody’s thread went to Bill. I missed (those) guys.

Q: Is Chris Isaak still acting? What is he doing now?

A: After dabbling a little with acting in the ‘90s, it seems that rockabilly singer Chris Isaak has returned to his first love.

These days, he’s focusing on his music, touring extensively and, just last year, releasing a new Christmas album.

Once upon a time, though, he seemed primed for screen stardom. He appeared in the cult classic 1992 film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” (a followup to the even more beloved TV series), did a few other films, and in 2001 got his very own scripted TV show, aptly named “The Chris Isaak Show.”

But perhaps the show revealed the limitations of his range. Though it was a scripted sitcom, he was literally playing himself, yet critics still suggested he wasn’t up to the task.

Nonetheless, the show lasted three seasons. But after Showtime canceled it, his acting output diminished greatly. He had previously said he would pursue acting only as long as it didn’t interfere with his music career, so perhaps starring in a TV show violated that rule.

Whatever the reason, his music fans are benefiting from his renewed career focus.

Q: What ever happened to Clive Owen? He used to be everywhere, but I haven’t seen him in a while.

A: Big-screen leading man Clive Owen (“Children of Men,” 2006) has actually been doing pretty steady work lately. If you haven’t seen it, it’s either because you were looking in the wrong place or because it was a flop that nobody saw.

His most successful role lately has been on the small screen instead of the big one — he did a stint as President Clinton on the third season of “American Crime Story” in 2021. But he’s mostly stuck to his normal milieu of feature films, even though he hasn’t had much luck. He’s had a run of pretty notable flops, such as the crime drama “The Informer” (2019), the sci-fi film “Anon” (2018), and, the biggest flop of them all, the 2017 space opera “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.” This high-profile, long-developing project based on a popular French comic barely earned its enormous, $177-million budget back.

All this seems to have convinced Owen to commit to TV. And that decision is paying off already, in the form of a lead role in a high-profile series coming soon to AMC.

It’s high-profile specifically because of his character: he’ll be playing Sam Spade, the beloved literary sleuth created by crime writer Dashiell Hammett, made famous in the 1941 cinematic classic “The Maltese Falcon.”

“Monsieur Spade” is about an older version of the character, retired from big-city detective work and living out his golden years in small-town France in the early 1960s.

The series has wrapped filming already, but there’s no word yet on a release date.

Turning up the ‘Talent’: ‘AGT’ returns with Season 18

“AGT” auditions have finished, and Howie Mandel is back to making jokes on his Instagram stories. That can only mean one thing: It’s time for Season 18. A brand-new, bombshell season of “America’s Got Talent” begins with a two-hour premiere, airing Tuesday, May 30, on NBC.

Returning for his fourth season as host, Terry Crews (“Brooklyn NineNine”) is joined by his panel of celebrity judges, now staples of the popular talent competition show. Howie Mandel (“St. Elsewhere”) returns for his 14th season, while Heidi Klum (“Project Runway”) joins for her 10th, Simon Cowell (“American Idol”) for his eighth, and Sofia Vergara (“Modern Family”) for her fourth.

The competition begins with a round of auditions, as the judges open the “AGT” stage to starlets from across the country and beyond, welcoming talent of all kinds to perform their various acts – showcasing everything from singing, dancing and acting, to comedy, magic, stunts and more, with each act hopeful for a spot in the main competition. Only

a lucky few will continue on to the live episodes, in which the remaining few must compete against each other for both the audience and judges’ votes.

“The Winner Takes It All,” so to speak, as one competitor will eventually be crowned, awarded a massive cash prize and the life-altering chance to headline a show on the Las Vegas Strip.

Early into taping Season 18, however, People magazine reported that a wrench had been thrown in “AGT’s” usual song and dance, as “the famously sharptongued Cowell [...] lost his voice.”
