Barcelona look to build on second win streak of the season against Sevilla
La Liga action continues this week as FC Barcelona gets set to host the Andalucian club Sevilla FC, Sunday, Oct. 20, at Estadi Olimpic Lluiz in Barcelona, in what promises to be a thrilling match. Kickoff airs live on ESPN.
It’s been close to a perfect start for FC Barcelona after an underperforming season last year. Having kicked off the 2024-25 campaign in top form, the team found itself on a seven-game win streak early on and taking top spot in the Spanish top flight, with its only loss of the season coming against CA Osasuna.
With the team off to a strong start, the individual performances have followed. The Catalan side boasts a strong starting lineup this season, with superstar striker Robert Lewandowski currently sitting top three league-wise in goals, with Lewandowksi leading La Liga with seven (at press time).
The Polish striker has been looking to return to his 2022 form, when Lewandowski scored 33 goals across all competitions, including winning La Liga — an impressive feat in his first season in the Spanish top flight.
Meanwhile, for the opposing side, Sevilla FC has been facing mounting pressure from frustrated fans after poor performances and questionable transactions from management — a stark difference for a club that won the Europa Cup just two years ago, and something that fans and the club will hope to improve and build on against FC Barcelona.

Roommates for eternity: ‘What
We Do in the Shadows’ returns for a final fang-filled season
Break out the creepy paper, because everyone’s favorite immortal roommates ignore one last spin of the household chore chart as the Emmy-winning mockumentary sitcom “What We Do In the Shadows” nears its end. The show’s sixth and final season premiere airs Monday, Oct. 21, on FX.
Vampires Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak, “Cruella,” 2021), Laszlo Cravensworth (Matt Berry, “Toast of London”), Nadja of Antipaxos (Natasia Demetriou, “Stath Lets Flats”), day-walker Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch, “The Office”) and their human familiar-turned-vampire-turned-human friend Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”) are back to cause chaos on New York’s Staten Island. There to lend a hand, as always, is The Guide, portrayed by Kristen Schaal (“The Last Man on Earth”). For five seasons, the vampires and their loyal familiar have learned lessons and changed forms while sharing a decrepit home just across the bay from New York City. Together they have encountered rivals, whether they are supernatural — like the coven of witches who run a Brooklyn shop — or a more human evil, such as the bureaucratic local city council. With so many lifetimes’ worth of lived experiences between them,
the roommates always manage to get out of danger alive — or undead — but oftentimes just barely.
This season, all of the housemates are questioning the direction of their lives. The vampires reflect on half a century spent not accomplishing much after their former roommate reappears after a 50-year-long nap, while Guillermo considers who he is if he isn’t a vampire or a familiar devoted to his master any longer.
What is waiting out there for the members of Staten Island’s eeriest household with a new zest for life? In the upcoming episodes, everyone joins the workforce and travels to New Hampshire, the vampires attend a human dinner party, throw a party for the Baron, conjure a demon and more.
The “What We Do in the Shadows” gang hit San Diego Comic-Con in July, and writer and executive producer Paul Simms (“English Teacher”) revealed that the upcoming season includes some cameos from “the people that we just loved and thought were super funny,” just as past seasons have.
One of those cameos is Michael Patrick O’Brien, creator of the NBC sitcom “A.P. Bio,” who you may have seen in the 2019 comedy “Booksmart.” O’Brien joins the cast as Jerry, the vampires’ beloved former roommate. While they all remember loving Jerry, they have forgotten over the years that they forgot to wake him in 1976 when he laid down for what was meant to be a quick rest.
At the Comic-Con panel, Simms also shared how the creative team behind the show put together the final season. “We wanted to make a really funny season that was not too sentimental or trying to tie up too many loose threads,” Simms said, noting that they tried to avoid a formulaic, tidy ending to the series.

Donnie Wahlberg
OF BLUE BLOODS ON CBS/PARAMOUNT+
Q: With “Blue Bloods” ending, what will Donnie Wahlberg be doing next?
A: Actor-singer-producer Donnie Wahlberg, who has been portraying Detective Danny Reagan on the CBS and Paramount+ police drama since 2010 will be staying in the crime genre to a certain degree, by continuing the unscripted Investigation Discovery series “Very Scary People,” which is in production now with eight new episodes. Wahlberg has been quite active in the reality-show space, also demonstrated by his involvement in the reality shows “Wahlbergers,” “Donnie Loves Jenny,” “Rock This Boat” and “Boston’s Finest.”
Of course, on the musical front, the enduring group New Kids on the Block remains a professional venture for Wahlberg as well. The act’s latest album, “Still Kids,” was released earlier this year — and an “iHeartRadio Live” special featuring the boy band has been making the rounds on PBS stations lately. The group also had a “Magic Summer Tour” recently, with Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff also on the bill of performers.
Though “Blue Bloods” now is in the final stretch of its first-run episodes, fans of the show will be able to watch repeats of it for some time to come. It’s a staple in repeats in syndication and on such outlets as ION Television and UPtv, and while it has been suggested by some CBS executives that “Blue Bloods” may move forward in some sort of spinoff form, no details have been confirmed officially about that … nor whether Wahlberg would be involved in it.
That being said, Wahlberg’s popularity as a television-series fixture has been confirmed by the long run he has had as a pivotal member of the fictional Reagan family, so it’s more than possible that other series opportunities will come his way. Time will tell how that works out.

Tim Baltz
Q: Who’s the guy who plays B.J. on “The Righteous Gemstones”? What else can I see him in?
A: Mild-mannered assistant optician B.J. Barnes in the HBO comedy “The Righteous Gemstones” is played by Tim Baltz, a Chicago-raised comedian and graduate of that city’s legendary Second City comedy troupe.
Baltz first came to popular attention via the 2017 Comedy Central series “The Opposition
with Jordan Klepper,” appearing as a “citizen journalist.”
But, his star has undoubtedly risen thanks to his three seasons, so far, as an honorary Gemstone (his character married into the titular “Righteous Gemstones” family). A fourth season was filmed over the summer, likely to be released sometime early next year.
Still, Baltz has been busy in the meantime. He did a guest voice in an episode of the Fox

Hannah Waddingham
Q: What’s Hannah Waddingham from “Ted Lasso” doing now that the show’s over?
A: From the looks of it, Hannah Waddingham (“Sex Education”) is splitting most of her time between frantically shooting big projects and answering her phone to book more.
If there was a single breakout star from Apple TV+’s surprise smash “Ted Lasso,” it was Waddingham, who played the initially frosty Rebecca Welton, owner of the show’s fictional soccer team.
Her character’s long journey from villain to hero (and co-lead) was the engine that drove the first season. And it mirrored, in a way, her own journey from mostly unknown supporting actress to in-demand star.
Prior to “Ted Lasso’s” debut in 2020, she was best known (to North American audiences, at least) for her largely silent role as the monstrous Septa Unella in eight episodes of “Game of Thrones” from 2015 to 2016.
Fast-forward a few years, and she’s now booked into major roles in four different big-budget film projects in a two-year span.
This year she appeared in the mega-budget action hit “The Fall Guy” as well as in the animated comedy “The Garfield Movie” as the voice of the film’s chief villain, Persian cat Jinx.
Next year, she’s slated to pull off a very similar double, with a role in the surefire action hit “Mission: Impossible 8” as well as another family-friendly cartoon, “The Smurfs Movie.”
Meanwhile, she’s also in pre-production on an untitled action-comedy series for Prime Video, pairing her with Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer (“The Help,” 2011). She’s also been attached to the heartwarming drama “West the Road” back in her native United Kingdom, though that hasn’t even reached the pre-production stage (and could depend, at least partly, on finding time in Waddingham’s busy schedule).

Experience the highs and lows of friendship when Vannessa, Meghan, Tina and Ashley return for Season 3 of “1000lb Best Friends,” starting Tuesday, Oct. 22, on TLC.
When last season concluded, the ladies were in Georgia to celebrate Meghan’s upcoming nuptials. While it was supposed to be a cheery event for all involved, tensions were high as these once best friends began experiencing resentment and jealousy of each other. Since then, according to TLC, the problems between Vannessa, Meghan and Ashley have only grown.
In a synopsis for the upcoming season, the network shares that “since viewers last saw them, a growing rift threatens their 30-plus-year relationship. Meghan and Ashely feel that Vannessa’s continued celebration of her weight loss has turned into gloating, while Vannessa believes her friends are jealous of her success.”
After completing a rigorous trip to the Fit Farm in Season 2 — and plenty of hard work back at home — Vannessa now waits to hear if she will be approved for skin removal surgery, which would be a transformative step following her recent weight loss. While her relationship with the others is strained, Vannessa relies on her team of health-care professionals to encourage her through the process.
It’s not always easy, however, as “irreconcilable differences are brought to light in Dr. Procter’s bariatric support group,” while “some of his patients quickly find themselves caught up in the middle of their messy relationships” (per TLC).
Tina, meanwhile, “begins to second-guess her decision when her food addiction derails her progress” (TLC).
While drama brews amongst old friends, some new faces will also be introduced: “Scott, who comes to Dr. Procter weighing 596 pounds and faces an almost insurmountable challenge to lose enough weight for surgery approval” (TLC).
As Season 3 boasts plenty of changes — and not just for the ladies — fans of the show are welcome to take an inside look at “1000-lb Best Friends,” with its companion series, “1000-lb Best Friends: Inside the Episode.” New episodes air weekly on Max, discovery+ and TLCGo, joining the cast as they “spill the tea” and discuss the biggest, most shocking and most exciting moments from the season.
