Died: March 21, 2023 in Henry, IL

Dorothy D. Harden, 102, of Granville, formerly of Marseilles, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Henry Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ron McNeill of the United Church of Christ in Granville officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.

She was born on February 10, 1921, in Page, NE, to Walter E. and Stella E. (Wellman) Dodd. On March 27, 1937, she married Orville L. Harden of Marseilles, who preceded her in death in 2001.

Dorothy was a member of the Marseilles United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the United Church of Christ Women, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She loved to bake and was known for her pies and birthday cakes. Dorothy also enjoyed taking art classes, especially doing watercolors and oil paintings. She loved playing bridge with her friends. She was a terrific mother and grandmother, and she loved her family. She is survived by her children, Lennis (Karen) Harden of Mapleton, OR and Cheryle “Cheri” Klein-Adrian of Granville, IL; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville; one daughter, Phyllis (Joe) Drewes; a grandson, Lonnie Harden; four brothers, and five sisters.

Memorials may be directed to the Granville United Church of Christ, Henry Rehabilitation and Nursing Center or Compassus Hospice of Peoria.

Pallbearers will be Chris Baron, Bret, Eric, and Doug Knoblauch, Zachary Ansteth, and Tony Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Kim and Stacy Harden, and Nathan Egen.

Mendota

The Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an Easter Hop 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1. Start the hop by getting an Easter bunny cutout with your number and a list of Easter hop stops at the Mendota Chamber of Commerce office, 800 Washington St. Visit participating businesses until you find the matching number to win a prize. Children must be between 3 and 10 to participate. Participants must register by March 24 at the chamber office or call 815-539-6507.

Bring a basket to Graves-Hume Library, 1401 W. Main St. for an egg hunt 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6. There will be a story time and craft, along with the hunt for children 2 to 10. to register, call 815-538-5142.

Oglesby

The Oglesby Elks will host a visit from the Easter bunny and an egg hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at the lodge, 800 E. Walnut St.

Ottawa

The first annual Hop Into Spring free fun event is scheduled 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the Moose Lodge, 3074 E. 18th Road. The first 50 kids will receive a free kite and two bicycles will be raffled. The Easter bunny will be there for photos at 2. A Hurray for Spring egg hunt is planned 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, on the Jordan block downtown. The traditional egg hunt will begin at 1:30 p.m. for ages 0 to 3 and 2:30 p.m. for ages 4 to 7. A scavenger hunt will be conducted for children 8 and older from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The scavenger hunt check-in will be at Floret, 610 Court St. The event is sponsored by Floret Events, Mayor Dan Aussem and Illinois Valley Contractors Assocation.

Skydive Chicago, 3215 E. 1969th Road, is hosting an egg hunt on the south lawn at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 9, with a guest appearance by the Easter bunny, who will be parachuting into the event at about 11:30 a.m. The Easter bunny will be available for pictures at 10:45 a.m. prior to the egg hunt. The event is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary. Skydive Chicago is taking any donations of candy or cash. Candy donations can be dropped off in the manifest office anytime before April 7. Bring your own basket or bag for children to collect eggs.

Peru

An egg hunt is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Centennial Park. A reserved hour for children with special needs is set 11 a.m. to noon - contact Adam Thorson by email or phone at athorson@peru.il.us or 815-200-5058 to reserve a spot for children with special needs. The event is sponsored by city of Peru Parks and Recreation, Jessica Strauch-State Farm and Peru Walmart.

Princeton

The Rotary Club of Princeton will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Soldiers and Sailors Park. Everyone age 12 and younger is welcome to participate. Candy has been donated by the Princeton Ministerial Association and Rotarians. The Easter bunny will be on site from 10 to 11:15 a.m. for photos compliments of the Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce. This is the first year of the Rotary Club of Princeton hosting this event after partnering with the Optimist Club that sponsored the event for many years.
