Naftzger family to gather for reunion July 10

The descendants of Peter and Catherine Schrock will hold their annual family reunion on Sunday, July 10. The gathering will be at the Albany American Legion in Albany with a potluck dinner at noon. Each family member is asked to bring a meat dish, a dish to pass, table service and your own drink.

This year’s committee is David Naftzger and LaVonne MacGrath.

Whiteside 4-H Federation Pork Chop BBQ is July 8

It’s that time of year to purchase Pork Chop barbecue meals from Federation BBQ from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the Whiteside County fairgrounds. Meals include pork chop(s), baked beans, applesauce, chips, cookie (baked by Harvest Bakery) and water. Cost of a one pork chop meal is $8. A two pork chop meal is $10.

Summer is the time to schedule your student’s annual sports and school physicals.

Yearly physicals are required by school districts to help ensure safety for students, especially those participating in sports. Before classes and extracurricular activities begin, it is important that students receive a physical to make sure there are no underlying health issues that might interfere with participation.

“To avoid getting hurt on the field or court, your teens need to be prepared. That preparation starts with seeing their physician to make sure their bodies are ready for the season ahead,” said Dr. Mark Woods at MercyOne Morrison Family Medicine. “Teens who aren’t in sports also need a yearly physical to monitor their development and overall health and wellness.”
