Fulton Kiwanis Club sponsored a successful Bucket Brigade, which took place on Routes 84 and 136. The club collected $6,856.44, which was distributed to the following groups: Make-a-Wish - $1,500, United Way - $2,000, Gateway Area - $2,306.44, River Bend Boosters - $750 and Fulton Food Pantry - $300. The club’s mission is “To Serve the Children of the World” and thanks all who helped with the brigade and those who donated. Fulton Kiwanis Club and Fulton High School Key Club members joined together on a crisp fall day to clean up trash from their Adopt A Highway area of U.S. Highway 84 and the bike paths. Several large bags of refuse were collected making Fulton just a bit nicer to welcome those who visit and live in the area.

Born: May 5, 1936 in Moline, IL Died: October 14, 2022 in Silvis, IL

George W. Kerr, 86, of Cordova, IL, died Friday, October 14, 2022 surrounded by his family at Genesis – Illini, Silvis, IL, following a brief illness. Visitation was from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Services where held at 10:30 am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial was in the Cordova Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House or the EAA Young Eagles.

George was born on May 5, 1936 in Moline, IL, the son of F. Everett and Nellie (Hartman) Kerr. He graduated from Cordova High School in 1954. He married Ida Schroeder November 23, 1956 at the Cordova Baptist Church. George served in the US Naval Reserves for eight years. He was the Maintenance Supervisor for Illini Hospital, Silvis, retiring in 2000.

George was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Cordova where he was currently a deacon. He was a neighbor to everyone no matter where they lived. He loved to visit with and help others. He and the family loved camping and traveling. George and Ida traveled the country and many parts of the world. They spent the last 9 winters in Alabama. He loved aviation and was a private pilot. George took pride in keeping his home and yard looking nice. He was an avid watcher of all newscasts.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 66 years, Ida Kerr; children, Gregory (Lisa) Kerr, Kewanee, Peggy Sue Daniels, LeClaire, Michael Kerr, Sr. (Kris), Port Byron, Kim (Tod) Van Wolvelaere, Moline; brother, Dr. Edwin (Ruth) Kerr, Camp Point, IL; grandchildren, Emily, Renee, Ryan, Katlyn, Drew, Mackenzie, Michael, Jr., Krystalis, Scotty; 8 great grandchildren; special friends, John and Merredith Peterson, Jim Boone; and many loved ones. Six G enerations

Photo provided Six generations recently gathered for a reunion at Taylorville Estates in central Illinois so Elma Patrick could meet her great-great-great grandson. Pictured in the front are Elma, 98, of Taylorville, Carson Kirkpatrick, 24, of Prophetstown, and his 5-week-old son Grayson Kirkpatrick, and in the back are Beulah Crawford, 78, of Raymond, Illinois, Rose Thompson, 62, of Erie, and Justin Kirkpatrick, 42, of Fenton. Elma and the family enjoyed the special visit, and the family will treasure the photo of six generations. Grandma Elma had 12 children of her own and they’re a very close and very large family all because of this sweet lady, Rose said.
