PLT FFA serves up delightfuldinner to area farmers

TheProphetstownHighSchoolCommonswasfilledwithfarmersandtheir familiesonSunday,Dec.11,forPLTFFA’s annual “ThankaFarmer”afterharvest meal.

ThoughPLT’sFutureFarmersof Americachapterhasbeenprovidingthe freeannualmealforthepastsevenor eightyears,it’salwaysbeenagrabandgo affair,butthisyearallwerewelcometo dineindoorswithotherfarmers.The menuconsisted ofhomemade lasagna, chickenalfredoandmostaccioli,plus corn,greenbeans,garlicbread,salad,toppingsandMyrtle’sPiesfordessert.

Asmall teamassembledthepasta dishesbyhandonSundaymorning,ledby FFA’sOliviaPurvis,andmanyFFAmemberscontributedtotheplanning,marketing,décoranddinnerprep,agriculture teacherandFFAadviserSaraMosher said.PLTFFAhasabout40activemembers andmorethan20werehelpingon Sunday,frompreparingfoodtowelcomingthefarmerstoservingupdinnerand drinkstocleaningtables.

“Itwasalotofwork,butwehadenough kidstopullitoff,”hesaid.

FarmerscamefromtheProphetstown, Lyndon,TampicoandErieareastoenjoy ahearty dinner,fellowshipandtotalk aboutharvestandfarmlifewithothers. Dinnerdecorfeaturedphotosoftractors withfood-themedBibleverses.Thefarmerswereappreciativeofadeliciousmeal onaSundayevening,andfortherecognitionoftheirhardworkand post-harvest success.

SuperintendentHeidiLensingandher familywereinattendance,andshewas happyto seesomanycomeoutonaSunday night foraneventthatembodied a schooldistrictandcommunitypartnership.

Membersalsochosenewleadership LongtimeincumbentRepublicanMartinKosterwilltakethegavelfromDemocratJimDuffy,perhapsreflecting the changeinthebalanceofpowerfrom a DemocratictoaRepublicanmajority.

Manyofthemembersarereturning incumbents, buttherearesomenew faces,andoneseat,aRepublicanspotin District3,isinneedofanappointee.

That’sbecauseformerMorrison policeChiefBrianMelton,whoranfor theposition,wasgiventhejobofMorrisoncityadministrator,buttoolate toremovehisnamefromtheballot. Hecannotserveasbothacounty boardmemberandthetown’sadministratorbecauseit posesaconflictof interestthatisprohibitedbystate statute.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF PORT BYRON, ROCK ISLANDCOUNTYILLINOIS:

Section 1: that the total amount of the budget for all corporate purposeslegally made tobe collected from the tax levy for the fiscal year April1, 2023 toMarch 31, 2024 is hereby ascertained to be the sumof $292,395 Section 2: that the sum of $292,395 being the total which is to becollected from the tax levy for the Villageof Port Byron for all corporate purposes of said Village of Port Byron, for the purposes of providing for a Corporate Fund, a Street Fund, a Sanitary/Garbage Collection Fund,a Police Fund,a Cemetery Fund, anAuditFund, a Social Security Fund, a Liability Insurance Fund, an IllinoisMunicipal Retirement Fund, and a Street Lighting Fund, as budgeted for the upcoming budget year, with the tax solevied being for the fiscal year beginning April1,2023 of said village, and for the said tobe collected from said tax levy, the total of which has been ascertained to be allocated as follows:
