The term for these people who call is “pfishing”. They tell you that you owe money, you should send it in immediately or they try to scare you about what will happen if you ignore their warning. Many people do send money – and get scammed – over $14 million reported since October 2013. If you get a call, hang up immediately and know that it is NOT the IRS!!

First, it is not the IRS. The IRS never calls you; they only send letters/notices about problems with your tax filing – either a correction to ES tax paid or missing income or questions about a deduction – or notices to nonfilers.

What are the top three infrastructure challenges in the village? Greg Abbott: I would say the top three challenges are our roads, our sidewalks and our sewers and pipes. ... We’re an aging village. Many of our pipes are 50 years old. They’re springing leaks. It takes an incredible amount of man power to fix those leaks, and it’s something that you cannot ignore forever. Continued from page 3 What parts of the budget would you cut? What programs or services are essential and should never be cut? Mary Anne Blair: I think before we make any cuts to the budget, I think we need to sit down with staff and go through it line by line. I think in addition to that, we need to reach out to the community and see what services are the most important to them before we cut anything. ... We have to reach out to the community and see which programs are most important to the community. In addition, we have to look at the cost versus the value of some programs. Joseph Kagann: The areas that I would protect are the village’s core services. That’s going to be your police, your public works. From there, you have a myriad of other things. You have your village staff and administration...those are all essential services that you need to run your community. ... One of the biggest impacts on the village’s overall budget is personnel. ... I would look at reducing or freezing over a period of years the annual review and increase of employees’ salaries. Greg Abbott: If you look at village government, there’s not a lot of things we do that are not course services, are not vital to the residents. When you

ENAMEL WEAR

Q: How can I minimize the wear on my teeth’s enamel? A: Although the teeth’s enamel is the hardest element in your body, it is susceptible to wear and tear just like any other part of the body. Some foods and liquids that pass through our mouths are more corrosive to enamel than are others. For instance, though fruit and fruit juice are good for us, those that contain citric acid, like oranges, lemons, and bananas, are potentially damaging to enamel. You should also consume carbonated drinks in moderation. You even need to be careful about the toothpaste you use. Avoid toothpastes with abrasives in them, even though they may be marketed as tooth-whitening, stainremoving marvels. Some other things to consider: chewable tablets, like those for vitamin C, aspirin, or iron, can be corrosive, as can be repeated vomiting from alcoholism or bulimia. Refluxed gastric acid from a hiatus hernia or some other medical condition is also damaging to teeth. So, if you are concerned about enamel erosion, you should minimize contact with teeth when drinking acidic juices. Drinking through a straw will help. And with medicines or supplements that can be corrosive, take them in a solid form that you can swallow immediately. Talk with your dentist about other ways to protect the enamel on your teeth.

Linda Mast shares her views March 18 at the League of Women Voters of Downers Grove, Woodridge and Lisle’s forum for candidates running for the Woodridge Village Board. look at our budget, the vast majority’s for police and public works. ... The way you control costs, ... it’s looking at the business model that we have – what do we have to do, what core services do we have to provide, how do we provide that in a more cost-efficient way? Magin “Mike” Martinez: I don’t think I’d cut anything until I meet with the residents and find out what’s the most critical aspect of the services we provide. Obviously, the answer may be, “Everything you do for us,” so then we have to put the priorities on our services to see where the costs really lie and see how we can afford those services. ... One of the things the village should be looking at is to look at annual reviews and to base it. ... on a performance basis. Mike Krucek: To cut just for cutting’s sake doesn’t make a lot of sense. I don’t view Woodridge as a village that spends money needlessly or frivolously. ... There certainly will be areas if you start with a zero budget ... what you will find is that there are areas that you are going to be able to save a dollar. If you can save one dollar, you can save two. ... I think you’ll find savings. Linda J. Mast: I really can’t say that there would be anything I would recommend cutting. Over the past 24 years, the board has focused on reducing the municipal tax rate and has done so every year. ... I think we really do make a strong effort to keep costs under control, and I think the solution would be again looking for efficiencies, partnerships and how to do things more efficiently. Certainly, core services would never be something I would ever recommend cutting.

COLLEGE OF DUPAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES What are the most pressing issues facing the college? By far, the most important issue facing COD is re-establishing a proper relationship between the board and the president. With Dr. Breuder’s promised retirement, we need to find a new president who will improve education at COD, collaborate with the employees and efficiently use the taxpayers’ investment in this great local resource. COD needs a leader who will only spend money on things that improve education and service to students and the transparency necessary to hold that leader accountable. Dan Bailey What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? My long association with the college began as a student starting in 1975. For 39 years, COD has been a Wheaton source for personal enrichment, learning Spanish and changing careers to become a registered nurse. My daughters also attended COD. I know very well how important this resource is for the people of our communities. It is worth fighting for. My commitment is to be a watchdog for transparency and taxpayers at every board meeting and to be a bulldog for students and their teachers. My experience in the health science area and in labor management committees will serve that commitment. What are the most pressing issues facing the college? There are major issues with internal controls and financial reporting and spending by the executive staff of the school. There is a severe lack of oversight by both the Board of Trustees and those charged with governance. There has been blatant misuse of no-bid contracts, and that needs to stop. The president has a reputation for brewing mistrust among people for his own personal gain. Because of his $762,000 contract buyout and the extraordinary wining and dining at the Waterleaf, the school now risks losing some of the state funding it receives each year. This can only hurt the Claire Ball students and community. Addison What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? I work for a publicly traded company, and I must explain everything in detail and be able to justify every change made each day, review every document and check every figure for accuracy in staying compliant with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. I worked with people to prepare departmental budgets, ensuring their needs were met while staying within company thresholds, so I work very well working with people. I also worked with capital expenditure bidding approval and understand lease language. I am also known for being a person of integrity and truly working with people for the betterment of the project, group or company.

What are the most pressing issues facing the college? The college is in real trouble. There is: Lack of faculty and public confidence in the president’s leadership; financial scandals including alleged fraud, highly questionable spending practices, lack of openness at board meetings; and, in general, a president who has consistently been unable to work with others. What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? I worked in information systems. I have a master’s degree in business from the University Charles of Illinois. While there, I passed the CPA exam. I spent my career working with companies in a wide variety of industries. My company, a leading firm in the IBM Bernstein midrange marketplace, developed software and provided consulting services to Wheaton help our customers access and analyze their computer data. We enabled them to make better management decisions. We need people on the board who understand how we can address the serious accounting and financial issues the college faces. What are the most pressing issues facing the college? 1. Improving accessibility of our finances ... The policy should change so that the board, public and taxpayers can access and review for themselves where the college is spending its money. 2. Finding the right leader ... It is important as a board to develop consensus on how we will select and find our new college president ... 3. Restoring credibility ... I plan to help lead the board and the college in a new direction ... 4. Fixing a dysfunctional board communication process ... We need to facilitate open and honest Matt Gambs conversation. ... 5. Career outcomes for students ... we must remain focused on the future. Naperville What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? I ... serve as an executive at one of Chicago’s largest banks. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school ... I was fortunate to be able to attend college through the GI Bill, and [I] graduated from Regis University in Denver where I studied economics and political science. ... I currently serve as board chairman of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce ... I currently serve as a trustee of Regis University. ... I am past chairman of the Heritage YMCA Group ... My wife and I are founding members of the Board of Trustees at All Saints Catholic Academy in Naperville, and I currently serve as chairman.

COLLEGE OF DUPAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES What are the most pressing issues facing the college? The College of DuPage has a Board of Trustees that is not holding the president and administration responsible. The board seems to have forgotten that the president reports to them and they report to the taxpayers. The lack of oversight and accountability has allowed insider deals, no-bid contracts, waste and fraud to take place for far too long. The mission of the college is to provide accessible, affordable and comprehensive education. We need to get back to the basics to ensure we deliver on that promise. Frank What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? I have served as a village trustee in Bartlett and as a school board member on U-46. I always Napolitano asked the tough questions to ensure that any money being spent was a good use Bloomingdale of the taxpayer dollars. I fought no-bid contracts, spoke out against any wasteful spending and worked to increase transparency. During my term on the Bartlett Village Board, we reduced the budget by 6.4 percent while delivering the level of service our residents expected. Bartlett received many awards and recognitions during my time on the board.

See TRUSTEES, page 8 What are the most pressing issues facing the college? The board has fundamentally failed to exercise real oversight over the college president, and that dereliction has had a ripple effect throughout the institution. This election is crucial to remove the current incumbents and install trustees willing to reform how COD currently does things, particularly with respect to Dr. [Robert] Breuder; to select the new college president; repair the rift with the faculty that led to the September 2014 no confidence vote; respect the faculty as professionals; solve the problems with Deanne internal controls and board policies that generated financial irregularities and an employee indicted for theft into six figures; and to restore trust with the public. Mazzochi What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? As a small-business Elmhurst owner and attorney, I have experience regarding employment issues; I have drafted, negotiated and litigated contracts and have issued FOIA requests and addressed Open Meetings Act issues – all areas where the current board has fallen short. ... In over 17 years of private practice, I have investigated many large corporate/bureaucratic organizations to figure out the facts on the ground, apply the law and engage in creative problem-solving on behalf of my clients. The public needs assurance that there is more than just one trustee looking out for us on the board; ideally they would have a majority so engaged.

What are the most pressing issues facing the college? 1. Establish a positive forum for board meetings; obvious need for change conducive to decision making based upon facts, fair presentations, discussion and listening amongst board members and provision of answers to the public. An armed police presence must end. 2. Get the forensic audit done now; overwhelming evidence by two objective public watchdog organizations clearly shows financial wrongdoing. The board’s reaction was dead wrong in first refusing to approve a forensic audit and then later both ignoring/refusing to a voluntary performance audit by Roger Kempa the Illinois Auditor General. ... 3. Provide highest priority/needs fulfillment first to in-district students; secondarily to out of district, inclusive of out-of-state and international students. Darien What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? 1. Diversity is good. I am an independent candidate for the board to represent both the COD district taxpayers and students. 2. Both career of excellence and knowledge base in community college business and administrative management from employment perspective. … 3. Not beholden to special interests, political parties; … only the public. 4. Graduate of COD. … 5. Have an actual plan (platform). 6. Believe in term limits; one-term candidate. 7. Fact-based decision-maker … and answer all questions from public, citizens and board meeting audience members.

COLLEGE OF DUPAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES – CONTINUED FROM PAGE 7 What are the most pressing issues facing the college? All stakeholders must be brought together to hire a president who demonstrates … respected academic credentials, … administrative skills, vision, honesty, integrity, respect, has a proven record of collaboration and unconditional positive regard to restore trust and rapport with the employees and community. The president must provide an intellectual atmosphere conducive to stimulation and interchange of ideas that empowers employees and promotes harmony and teamwork … must share accurate and transparent information for the benefit of the board Sandra Pihos and the community. He/she must avoid managing by crisis and disagree diplomatically. What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? Involved in Glen Ellyn education for 32 years, a state representative for 12 years, … a member of the Legislative Audit Commission, reviewing the stewardship of public funds, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force on Community Colleges, passed transparency laws, served on the DuPage County Workforce Development Board and the State Workforce Investment Board, member and president of the Glenbard Township District 87 School Board, negotiating 11 contracts with the teachers, AFSCME and SEIU. These experiences allowed me to hone my leadership skills, learn about good governance, due diligence, collaboration, negotiations and networking to obtain positive results.

What are the most pressing issues facing the college? Present issues include rebuilding community trust on campus and throughout the district, adding transparency, setting the stage for a presidential search and supporting the continuation of educational excellence. What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? During my term as trustee, I have honed my leadership skills by attending trustee education seminars presented several times a year by the Illinois Community College Trustee AssociNancy ation. These seminars have dealt with finance, legal issues, government relations, curriculum and leadership skills. I also have three degrees in education and over Svoboda 30 years of community college experience serving as a COD faculty member and Downers leader. Currently I serve as a dissertation adviser in the Higher Education and Orga- Grove nizational Change program at Benedictine University. My educational background and involvement with ICCTA provide a critical perspective for leading COD and hiring a new president. What are the most pressing issues facing the college? Transparency, budget and expense controls. Priority will also be to hire an honorable and well qualified president. With all things being equal I would like to hire a female president, the first in COD’s 47 year history. I think this will be a positive change and will help COD move forward into the future. What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? I am an experienced board member, with almost 12 years as DuPage County Regional School trustee. I have a diverse background from public service to business ownership and experience as an accountant for several Fortune 500 companies, all which will help me to be a asset to the COD Board.

What are the most pressing issues facing the college? The current politicization of the college poses a serious threat to the continued progress and development of the college. It may interfere with our ability to attract the best candidates to lead the institution. COD is one of the pre-eminent community colleges in the country and it requires a president who can nurture the dynamic educational environment and work with the community. Fiscal concerns, transparency issues and quality academic programs must always be priorities. Strategically planning for ever-changing trends in educational and Kim Savage workforce needs will help to maintain a stable, and hopefully growing, enrollment. What specific experiences make you a good fit for the board? I have a master’s degree Darien in education, majoring in college student services administration and a minor in business. I have more than three decades of employment in higher education with experience in policy development, budget analysis, strategic planning and project planning. I have worked with commuter student issues, developing programs for engagement to help them reach their academic goals. I serve on the Illinois Student Assistance Commission where we make it possible for students to obtain financial resources to attend college. I apply the unique insight and understanding of this lifetime of learning to my work with the board.

Bridge pays special attention to survivors of domestic abuse

OUR VIEW

Your vote has never been easier or more powerful If you’re one of those people who gets annoyed every election cycle at the admonishments to go out and vote because you don’t care, you’re never going to vote and you don’t see why everyone keeps harping on it, then fear not – this message is not for you. This message is for the people who vote sometimes, or the people who know they should vote but can’t seem to get around to it. This is for the people who are most likely to vote when there’s a presidential or gubernatorial race at the top of the ticket. This is for the people who’d vote if it was an app on their smartphones but don’t want to go to the trouble of seeking out a polling place. If you fit into any of those categories, then you need to vote between now and April 7 because this is the election where your vote matters most. (Early voting concludes April 4 and the 7th is Election Day, so don’t try to vote on the 5th or 6th). Municipal elections combine small constituencies with extremely low turnout, meaning races for positions that control tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of tax dollars often turn on a few hundred votes … or a few dozen votes … sometimes even one vote. Sometimes, even, a coin flip. For instance, in 2013, a Stickney Village Board trustee was chosen by a coin flip because the candidates tied with 573 votes apiece. In the 2012 presidential election, on the other hand, more than 129 million votes

were cast. So you can see where being one vote out of 1,146 can have a much bigger impact. If you’re not happy with your local schools, or local services, or the park district, or the library in your town, check and see if there’s anyone up for election on one of those boards. For the higher profile races, we’ve got questions and responses from the candidates about their positions online at www.mysuburbanlife.com/election-central. You can find the full ballot at the County Clerk’s website. This is your chance to choose the decision-makers who will decide how to address village needs in the face of potential state cuts. Candidates Greg Abbott, Mary Anne Blair, Joseph Kagann and Magin “Mike” Martinez are vying for three four-year seats and candidates Mike Krucek and Linda J. Mast are running for one two-year seat on the Woodridge Village Board. If the importance of your vote isn’t enough to convince you, consider that it’s easier than ever to vote. Sure, a smartphone app would be great (if potentially insecure), but thanks to early voting, you don’t necessarily need to stand in long lines. Pick an off-peak day and time during the early voting period, and you might be able to walk in and cast your ballot without any wait at all. Then you can sit back and watch everyone else hyperventilate knowing you’ve already done your civic duty.

Write to us We want to hear from you. Letters must be no more than 300 words. They must include your first and last name, town and a phone number for verification. Recently, we’ve seen incidents of domestic violence highlighted in the media more than ever. While no one enjoys seeing this kind of news, the result of the additional media attention has been more awareness of just how widespread domestic violence is. In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in the United States: COMMUNITY • More than 31 percent VOICE of women have been physiLisa cally abused by an intimate partner at some point in their Doyle lives. • Physical abuse against women results in 1.8 million injuries per year. • Half of women have suffered from emotional/psychological abuse. At Bridge Communities, we know all too well about domestic abuse – each year, about half the clients entering our Transitional Housing Program are abuse survivors. The abuse often played a major role in their becoming homeless; some Bridge families escaped their partner’s violence by fleeing with their children to a shelter while others were thrown out of their homes in a fit of rage. We know Bridge families have been through incredible hardships, and we never minimize their lasting toll either. That’s why one of our partners is Stepping Stones, a Rosellebased organization committed to empowering domestic abuse survivors and creating a path to safety. Every year, mentors and volunteers from Stepping Stones support several Bridge families as they rebuild their lives. In addition to the programming we offer to clients as they shape their futures, such as job assistance, mentoring and tutoring, we also offer free weekly counseling to any client that wants help reconciling with their pasts. On April 24, Bridge’s fifth annual spring luncheon, “Celebrating Women, Transforming Lives,” will pay special attention to survivors of domestic abuse. You won’t want to miss their inspirational stories of resilience in moving forward in their lives. Please join us at Danada House in Wheaton as we celebrate their strength and courage. Tickets for the Celebrating Women, Transforming Lives spring luncheon are available on www.bridgecommunities.org.

Equal justice matters

This government is taking away our freedom and liberty, meanwhile using race as a distraction to divide us. Order a vanilla latte at Starbucks, but hold the white guilt. Instead, take your business elsewhere and pay attention. What matters is equal justice.

Hire people who speak correctly

To all business owners: Please hire people who can speak correct English. I have to hang up on advertisers who I cannot understand. I hate having to say, “What did you say?” over and over again.

It’s no surprise that exercise is good for you. What is surprising is exactly how good it is for the human body and mind. Exercise not only strengthens your heart and lungs, but it increases chemicals in your brain – norepinephrines -- that impact your brain’s response to stress. Exercise also releases endorphins, which promote happy feelings. Dr. Umang Patel, Woodridge Clinic, promotes the value of exercise to all his patients, young and old. “Every stage of life can benefit from exercising. It diminishes depression, and improves the cardiovascular system. For older people, it improves their balance, which prevents falls,” he explains. As a physician specializing in internal and geriatric medicine (care for older adults), he witnesses the benefits of physical movement. He says that patients who follow the American Medical Association’s recommendation of exercising at least 30 minutes daily, often have better control of their blood pres-

It should be an important part of living a healthy life.” What does he tell patients who acknowledge exercise’s benefits, but claim they have no time to work out? Patel says, “Walking is easy, available, and free. Or people can buy simple equipment to use in their homes, such as weights and inflatable balls. Another solution is to hire a personal trainer to exercise with you at home. It’s an investment in your health.” He applauds people who do exercise regularly, and advises them to pursue a variety of fitness activities. “Change your routine every few days, to keep the muscles challenged. If you do the same work out each day, your muscles remember and don’t improve. Mix aerobic movements, such as running, with lifting weights for maximum health benefits.”

Hello, this letter is regarding the letter to the Ayatollah of Iran by 47 Republicans. A letter to the Ayatollah of Iran by 47 Republicans is an act of sedition unparalleled in the history of this country. It shows the extreme actions they are willing to take because of their hate for President Obama. It is shameful that this letter was written and that 47 Republicans signed it in order to undermine our president in this way. This act increases the chance of war in the Middle East, damages the diplomatic interests of our country and hurts all of us.

we went with tried-and-true Italian traditions – tiramisu and cannoli. The ladyfingers in the tiramisu imparted the coffee liqueur essence without being drenched, and a chocolate drizzle added to the delicate sweet treat. The cannoli’s delectable filling was surrounded by a slightly sweet and crisp shell, while crushed pistachios and an artful flourish of chocolate syrup added to the knockout flavor. Throughout our meal, the service was attentive without being intrusive. Our plates quickly were taken away, our water glasses remained filled, and our leftovers were packaged promptly. Our server and busser always arrived at the table with a smile. La Notte Due has lunch portions of its dinner menu available five days a week, and also offers a catering menu for anyone looking to bring the delicious taste of Italy home for a family party.

DARIEN – The phrase “la notte due” roughly translates from Italian as “the second night,” but La Notte Due could easily rank a first place in the local Italian dining pantheon. My date and I arrived for an early weekend dinner recently and were promptly seated in the elegant yet comfortable dining room, where bread materialized at our table. The Darien restaurant’s modern interior is warmed by wood floors and the paintings of Italian scenery adorning the walls. White tablecloths also enhance the surroundings. The attentive service that started with our arrival continued, with our water glasses quickly filled before our server came to take our drink order. Bolingbrook finishes strong, claims 3rd five points, all in the first half. No other Raider scored more than two in the opening half.

By DICK GOSS dgoss@shawmedia.com PEORIA – The finish was more like it. The Bolingbrook boys basketball team was disappointed in Friday night’s result, a 63-43 loss to Stevenson in the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament at the Civic Center. After trailing Geneva 19-15 at halftime of the third-place game Saturday night, the Raiders decided enough was enough. They exploded for 48 points after the break, hitting 10 of 16 shots and 25 of their 33 free-throw attempts, to claim a 63-42 victory. “I sat in the room last night and thought about the game against Stevenson,” Bolingbrook all-state guard Prentiss Nixon said. “We were right there with them late in the first half, and we were going against a kid [Jalen Brunson] some say is the No. 1 player in the country. I was really disappointed in how we played in the second half. “I told the guys if we came out tonight and played OK, we would be fine. We didn’t really play well the first half, but we had a tremendous second half.” Bolingbrook’s third-place finish marked the Raiders’ first trip to the state finals. “It’s a little ironic because we’ve lost some games in the past on free-throw shooting,” said Raiders coach Rob Brost, whose team finished 25-7 and won 19 of its past 21 games. “I was joking with our coaches that sometime along the way, free throws would win us a game, and they did tonight.” Bolingbrook applied fullcourt pressure in the second half against Geneva (305), which starts a 6-foot-8, 300-pound center along with two 6-7 forwards and brings players 6-8 and 6-5 off the bench for significant minutes. The Raiders forced nine second-half turnovers and outscored the

Bolingbrook’s Julian Torres (35) and Prentiss Nixon (5) cheer Saturday with their teammates in the final minutes of the Class 4A third-place game against Geneva at the Peoria Civic Center. Bolingbrook won 63-42. Vikings 48-23 after the break. “I love the way we responded in the second half,” Brost said. “We really wanted to push the ball and speed them up all night. It didn’t work to our advantage in the first half. But then in the second half, we turned them over a couple of times and took the ball to the basket.” “Coach got on us at halftime,” Bolingbrook senior forward Dimitri Akenten said. “At halftime he told us he knew we could play better than that. He said we weren’t having fun. We went out in the second half and executed our plays.” Nixon survived a rugged night from a physical stand-

point to finish with 15 points. The stats sheet shows no assists, but he set up teammates going to the basket on several occasions in the second half. They were fouled and made one or both free throws. Nixon took a hit to the head and had to leave the court for a minute at the end of the third quarter. He returned with 6:17 left and Bolingbrook leading 39-31. With 4:38 to go, the Raiders’ 6-foot-9, 250-pound Julian Torres and Geneva’s 6-8, 300-pound Loudon Love-Vollbrecht wrestled on the floor for a rebound, and players from both sides moved in as a fight nearly began. a Geneva player tossed Nixon to the floor. Love-Vollbrecht was ejected, and Nixon made both free throws on the technical. “Coach just told me to keep my composure,” Torres said. “They brought one big guy after another out there tonight. I just had to be me.” Akenten finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Brodric Thomas scored nine, Devon Sams added seven to go with three assists and Torres chipped in five points and six rebounds. Thomas had four and Sams three of Bolingbrook’s 11 steals. Sophomore Nana Akenten came off the bench and scored

The end of the first half and the beginning of the second half often is said to be the most important time in an athletic event. It definitely was Friday night when Stevenson erased Bolingbrook’s title hopes 63-43. The Raiders went on a 7-0 run to go ahead 21-19 with just more than a minute left in the first half on Prentiss Nixon’s 3-pointer. Bolingbrook got the ball back but missed a 3-pointer and then committed a costly turnover. Just like that, Stevenson was up 26-21 at the break. The half ended when Stevenson’s Jalen Brunson, rated one of the best high school guards in the nation, dunked at the buzzer after a Raiders turnover. Before that, Brunson, who came in averaging 23.1 points, had been 0 of 9 from the floor and had a mere four points from the free-throw line. The third quarter was a nightmare for Bolingbrook. The Raiders hit 1 of 12 shots, scored four points and committed six of their 21 turnovers as they fell behind 44-25. Brunson finished 4 of 18 from the floor and 0 of 7 from 3-point range but hit 13 of 14 free throws and closed with 21 points. Nixon also found a lid on the basket most of the night. He hit 4 of 15 shots, including 2 of 8 from 3-point range, and had 11 points. He managed only three points in the second half, including a strong dunk early in the fourth quarter. Torres led the Raiders with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He hit all eight of his free-throw attempts. After Nixon’s 11 points, Dimitri Akenten was next in line for Bolingbrook with five points but was limited to 13 minutes because of foul trouble.

Senior Emma Krick is strong defender that is aggressive in the air and also can drive the offense. She scored five goals and had two assists last season from the back line. Junior Alyse Dutcher is a lockdown defender who solidified the DGN defense. Senior midfielder Ellie Metros is both a calming presence and offensive threat, coming off a four goal, six assist campaign in 2014. Outlook: The DGS girls soccer team has their sights set on more than a 13th straight West Suburban Gold conference championship. Chris Hernandez, a longtime Downers Grove South boys assistant soccer coach, is now spearheading the girls program and believes a strong veteran core, as well as a bevy of newcomers, will help the Mustangs come playoff time. “We look to build upon our foundations of winning conference for the 13th straight year, but we are definitely a different team than last year,” Hernandez said. “The program is looking to win conference again, as well as claim a regional title. “We have a very positive team dynamic, which has helped us set a high standard for ourselves.
